How to Get There
10 years ago, I walked into the Acqua Hotel in search of a venue to host our annual event. On that afternoon, I met Judy Gilmore, the Sales Manager of the hotel and was extremely impressed by her professionalism and willingness to work with me and began 10 years of a great partnership and friendship. Through several changes with managements companies and general managers, Judy has remained and has helped maintain the standards her clients have come to expect. Just is true to her word and continues to offer our Foundation and our guests the best possible treatment. Every year our event gets better and better with the assitance of. Judy, Justin, the General Manager, and all the staff who work very hard on our behalf.
On Sunday, November 11, 2018, we concluded our 16th Annual Outstnading Teachers of America Awards Ceremony and Symposium to honor California High School teachers at the Acqua Hotel. This was the 10th consecutive Ceremony we have held at the Acqua Hotel. This amazing hotel is nestled next to Richardson Bay, just north of Sausalitio and the Golden Gate Bridge. Each room has a view of the water. (The Junior Suites have the full wather views). Every one of the staff is dedicated to offering guests the best service possible. From the front desk to housekeeping, all the staff are more than gracious and and go out of their way to accomocate the requests of the guests.
The rooms are well appointed and clean. Most of the third floor rooms have fireplaces that add to the ambiance. The first floor is available to accomodate those of us who have dogs (mine is an 85 lb German Shepherd who spends over 40 nights a year in the Acqua with me).
I continue to return to the Acqua because of the location (only 20 minutes to downtown/financial district of San Francisco); the superb quality of the service; and, the amenities the hotel offers.
Unlike hotels in the City, there is no charge for parking or wi-fi. The daily hot breakfast is exceptional and offers fresh hot scrambled eggs, crisp bacon, mango sausage and a delicious vegetable fritadda. The muffins and croissants are fresh daily. Also available are dry cereals, oatmeal and waffles as well as very fresh and tasty melons, strawberries, pineapple and bananas. This Acqua breakfast would cost more than $20 in any San Francisco Restaurant. Water, fresh coffee and tea are available 24 hours a day.
Every night from 5 PM to 7 PM, the hotel pours free wine, accompanied by various cheeses, crackers and fruit.Guests will enjoy tasty California Pinot Noir, Cabernet, Chardonay and Savingon Blanc wines for no charge. And, at 7 PM, the aroma of freshly baked chocolate chip and macdamia nut cookies fill the lobby.
Finally, the catering services from Piazza D'Angelo, led by Carrie Lewis, offers exceptional and reasonable food packages. Each year we host two cocktail receptions, a luncheon and an Awards Ceremony dinner for over 100 guests. The meal selections are exceptional and the service is incredible.
The hundreds of guests we have brought to the hotel have never had a complaint about the hotel. I personally average 35-45 nights a year in the hotel and have stayed in almost every room. Every stay has been a pleasure.
I have two more stays booked later this month and December. The Acqua has become a second home and I have never been disappointed.
I hosted an offsite here for my team of 30. Judy, the Sales Manager, went above and beyond to find rooms for us despite all hotels in the area being filled to capacity for the Oracle conference. The accommodation was clean, well kept and comfortable. We had a one day workshop in the conference room which was well equipped, quiet and well suited to our needs. We also threw a small function in the Acqua's rooftop room. The guests were delighted by the great location, beautiful views of the bay and Mt Tam along with the delicious catering. Thank you, Judy for helping this event be a huge success. We'll be back!
This hotel is in a perfect location just off Interstate 101 South but also accessible from 101 North. Staff is friendly. We arrived at 6:30pm as fresh cookies were being served at the front desk. The wine and cheese hour had just ended but we were still offered a glass of wine to take to our room. I opted for the room with the fireplace and did not regret that. The room isn't overly large but it does have a separate sitting area from the sleeping area and a huge bathroom with the soaking tub and separate shower. Mattress was comfortable. Hotel is clean. The balcony faced a small lake with beautiful views. There are bikes, free to use and a beautiful bike path that you can ride all the way into Sausalito if you so desire. This hotel was a short drive to Sausalito, Muir Woods, Sonoma and San Francisco. Due to traffic and parking we opted to take the ferry from Sausalito to Embarcadero area of San Francisco. There was a short walk to Fisherman's Wharf. For visiting the area, this hotel was in the perfect location for all our planned day trips. If you are visiting areas north of San Francisco this is the place to stay.
We have been looking for a boutique hotel site for a conference we are planning in 2019. Last night we met with Judy - director of sales - about what the hotel can offer. Not only was the site perfect for our needs, but Judy could not have been more helpful, creative and accommodating. It is rare to find people who put the customer first these days and are interested not only in our business needs, but us a human beings. Judy tops the heap and we are delighted to have found her.
I arrived exhausted after traveling across country only to be served by a staff member who seemed more concerned about the couple behind me, than checking me in. I came to the Acqua Hotel for a Retreat but this was no treat from the beginning. Our group had 14 blocked rooms and I was promised a room. For a retreat I was expecting to relax when I got here, no such luck.
Instead when I got to the hotel there was an elderly couple demanding a nice room with a water view and the manager Judy, came out to assist. She seemed very accommodating to them, however when I complained about getting a small room literally in the dining room she was indignant and rude saying “this is a standard room,” at $240 when the junior suite was $260 seemed wrong. She acted like I should be happy with a room in the dining room that was small, unattractive with high chairs lining the entryway, facing a public space with a window that cannot be opened.
She then proceeded in a robotic manner, to tell me she is “happy” to find me a room elsewhere at the Holiday Inn Express and other hotels, when my event was at the Acqua. There was no apology or acknowledgement that this was not a nice room. There was no kindness.
Judy G was not as accommodating to me as she had been to the elderly couple ahead of me, and although I have no proof, I suspect she gave them the last room in our group block and gave me the “maids” room. I call it the “maids room” because it is in the dining room. In order to get to the room you enter the dining room.
Last night there was noise till 11pm and this morning I woke at 6:24am as staff was getting ready for breakfast. At 7 there will be crowds of people talking and dishes clanging. So much for sleeping in.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Genevieve I have to give 5 stars to, because she was the most pleasant, accommodating, kind and honest of all the staff I met. Had my first encounter with staff been honest, “sorry but this is not our best room, it is in the dining room” I might have been prepared for the shock of it! It was a terrible room for two out of three nights I stayed there. When I asked if the room had a water view I was told “it kinda has a water view.” Not an honest depiction at all! It was nothing short of terrible, in terms of view and location. Genevieve took my suggestions of removing the high chairs and putting a plant or flowers in the room so that helped some. She is a gem and without her this place would suffer.
(I over heard someone canceling their reservation while in the lobby on day 1, so for one of the three nights I stayed in a junior suite for $290. Honestly, the furniture was worn and tattered and there was obvious wear and tear but the view made up for it. I would give that room 3.5 stars)
As far as hotels go, this one is average. I dealt with the maids quarters only to remain near my event but there should have been some compensation for the very poor accommodations. A better room rate might have eased the inability to sleep in and the location. I was tremendously disappointed overall.
