Andalusian-style village resort on Marbella’s Golden Mile with seven restaurants and a posh beach club
Right on the beach between Marbella and Puerto Banus, Puente Romano has the feel of an Andalusian village, with guestrooms set in three–story whitewashed villas surrounded by lush subtropical gardens. The sprawling resort is home to no fewer than seven restaurants (each with a glass frontage to embrace the sea breeze) and stellar sports facilities including a tennis center inaugurated by Björn Borg.
Bed and Bath
There may be 266 guestrooms, but each unit feels completely private, with an entrance direct from the grounds rather than a hallway. They're spacious (the smallest room is 376 square feet) and light, with classic wooden furnishings, pastel shades and subtle flower prints. The Junior suites are open-plan, and the One-Bedroom Suites offer separate bedrooms and living areas and glorious patios overlooking the gardens. The bathrooms are either modern marble affairs or they're decked out in traditional Andalusian tiles. The rooms in the eastern part of the resort enjoy lovely evening sunshine on their west-facing patios.
Most of the restaurants are located around the “Plaza Village,” the heart of the resort where the tables spill out onto a square. Dine on tapas by Dani García at Bibo, a laid-back brasserie, pair sushi with sake at Namazake, tuck into modern Italian cuisine at Serafina, or splurge on a meal at Dani García, which features innovative Andalusian dishes created by the eponymous two-Michelin-starred chef. There are three outdoor pools, including the year-round heated pool at the beach club, and direct access to a four-mile stretch of beach. The neighboring tennis club is home to 10 courts and has played host to such tennis legends as Boris Becker and John McEnroe. The hotel has a partnership with the Marbella Club hotel, so guests also have access to a Thalasso spa and an 18-hole golf course.
In the Area
The hotel is positioned midway between the beaches of Marbella and the ritzy marina of Puerto Banus, which is filled with impressive yachts and lined with designer boutiques. The hotel offers a free shuttle to/from the 18-hole Marbella Club golf course, in the mountains around Benahavís, where the views stretch to the Rock of Gibraltar and the African coast. Visit Marbella’s celebrated bonsai museum, with its huge collection of miniature trees, some of them more than 500 years old, or make the half-hour trip to Picasso’s birthplace, Malaga, and visit the Museo Picasso, where some of the artist’s best work is on display.
