How to Get There
Absolutely fantastic location for the person who enjoys a “foodie” and “artsy” town. While my husband was in meetings, the hotel staff told me where some great bookstores, the public library and the home of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow were located. The hotel staff were very helpful, our room was neat and clean each day and the hotel bar on the top floor is a spectacular spot for drinks and appetizers. Portland is a very friendly and fun town.
The hotel is nice. Central location. I believe recently renovated. I have stayed here the past few years. However, the cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. When I arrived unnoticed the floors were still dirty (hair on the bathroom floor, etc. ) so I took the vacuum and vacuumed the whole room myself (easier than waiting for housekeeping to do it). But the next day I came back to literally just the beds made. Nothing else. Food from Breakfast still in the room. Garbages not emptied. Sink not wiped. This room was over $600 a night. Completely unacceptable. Management was nice and apologetic.
The staff brings this hotel up from being just average. Granted, it’s a very nicely decorated, above average hotel, but a lot of little things brought the experience down a notch. The internet is weak and spotty. The toilet ran constantly unless we jiggled the handle. The selection of sundries and snacks for purchase was poor. The huge open vent in the shower was disconcerting. It’s as if this hotel has all the pieces of a high end property, but they don’t quite fit together right. However, the staff was very nice and helpful. That being said, I wouldn’t stay again and I probably won’t recommend it.
My wife and I spent a few days at the Westin Portland Harbor while visiting Maine. The hotel in general is very nice. We had two problems with mold in our room; the bottom 1/3 of the shower had mold growing on the grout, and we found mold growing in our ice bucket. My wife approached the evening manager who apologized and asked to see our room. She confirmed it was mold in the shower and offered that it was an issue they're trying to resolve in multiple rooms. She also brought us a new ice bucket with ice and said someome was on they way to provide us some bottled waters. She indicated she'd check back in 10 minutes to be sure the waters arrived. Bottled water never arrived, and she never checked back. We raised the mold issue again when we checked out the following morning, but nothing was done other than a "sorry" and then charged the full price. For us, this likely would have been an very nice hotel if the staff had handled our issue better, such as offering a different room or refunding part of our money. I don't think we'd ever stay there again since there are other fine choices in Portland. On the positive side, the Westin's shuttle service is excellent for getting to/from more distant parts of town. I understand, however, that the shuttle service is not run by the Westin, but is a subcontractor.
I was having an issue getting internet access on the 4th day of my business trip. I was lucky enough to connect with "Dustin" at the hotel. He tried to walk me through the issues, but it seemed like my computer was just NOT going to cooperate. I wound up being connected to Westin Corporate Tech Support Division who was also not able to assist me. During this time, Dustin called me and asked if I had gotten any furher along.
He told me that once i made my way down to the lobby, ask for him and he would try to assist further.
Low and behold...."Dustin to the rescue!" Not only was he amazing, he was personable and such a breath of fresh air. I am actually on business to conduct training at ARGO call centers in both Lewiston and Pittsfield. I deal with agents and customer service issues each day! Dustin was spectacular! I wish my agents had a 1/4 of the personality and customer service skills he possesses. Westin better watch out because I might steal him one day for my own business! lol
Thanks again for another great stay!
