A Major Contributor to Portland's Downtown Renaissance

Stopped in vibrant Portland for a night on pour New England and Quebec auto-tour (the "syrup trail") and stayed at The Press. Great place to stay while in Portland . . .it's near everything and is a really crisp hotel. It was the old newspaper building and they have more than a few nods to that heritage. The staff - from valet and bellmen to front desk and restaurant gangs were all really good and friendly. It's a safe, comfortable and yet chic place.

Excellent property for both event planners and travelers

Event Planners: This is an excellent spot for an event. I worked with Albert and it was one of the easiest sales processes I've ever experienced. He actually asked questions about the event that showed he was paying attention and the proposal I got reflected that. Any changes we made after contracting were made fairly and response time was awesome. Albert detailed and managed our event as well. One of the selling points for me of this hotel for my group is that all the food is made in house and custom to each group, and I was told changes were encouraged and requested. This is not lip service at this hotel. Every change I requested was easily accommodated. The pricing and concessions that you will get when you contract for a busy time, as I did, won't blow you out of the water but you aren't nickel and dimed at this property once the contract is signed. I personally think is way more important. The execution of my event was flawless and it was clear that the whole hotel knew about our group, our schedule, where we needed shuttle service and when. Every single person loved their hotel room and raved about the property. Even the pickiest of traveler had nothing negative to say after the event. Lastly, billing. The final bill came to me within 3 days and was completely accurate. I didn't have to ask for it! If you're a meeting planner, you know how that can be.

As a traveler, I would stay at this hotel over and over again. I think the word that I would use to describe the hotel and its appointments is "thoughtful." You can tell they considered every detail when planning the room setup, decor, the staffing model, the training, etc. The linens, towels, and robes were luxurious. The products in the bathrooms were lovely and plentiful. The room had decorative touches but was not cluttered. The hotel offers turndown, which is lovely. The hotel bar was welcoming and the bartenders friendly but unintrusive. The hotel restaurant, Union was amazing. We had a group dinner here and it was remarkable.

Excellent but expensve hotel

My wife and I stayed at the Press Hotel for a long weekend, our first visit to Portland. The hotel has an excellent, walk-to-everything location. Staff was uniformly warm and welcoming. Breakfast was also excellent, as was the dinner we ate one evening in the hotel restaurant. Surprisingly small rooms, though, and expensive.

Great location!

The perfect hotel location to enjoy the Old Port area. It's steps from great restaurants and shops. Rooms are small but the beds are super comfortable, and the air conditioning is quiet. Union restaurant is very good. Breakfasts are a treat. Front desk and other staff are very friendly and helpful.
