The reviews here shouldn’t be ignored - most rate excellent. Everything to the welcome at check in, to housekeeping and breakfast - professional/friendly but unassuming. Stunning gardens and the pool is a little piece of heaven. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel for the party animal or those who need a flat walk, but if you want to switch off from the world - a perfect choice! Breakfast better than I remember, a welcomed happy hour 6-7pm and a huge thank you for my husbands birthday treat!

A haven behind the wall.

Our eleven day stay at this hotel was an escape into another world. From the moment we were warmly greeted as we approached reception, we felt like pampered guests at a country-house. The walled extensive grounds, packed with carefully-labelled exotic tree and plant species, were a haven of peace and calm. Any stress melted away with the sweet song of blackbirds and vibrant profusion of flowers.

Our premium room on the top floor of the modern block was spacious and had a good-sized veranda with a chair, day-bed and towels. Furnishings were good quality with tasteful fabrics giving a sense of luxury as did the fresh flower arrangements. House-keeping was impeccable.

Breakfast could be enjoyed outside or inside at beautifully laid tables. A tempting array of food, presented against a backdrop of impressive flower arrangements, was supplemented with hot food choices cooked to order. Bananas from the hotel's own plantation were also available.

We enjoyed light evening meals in the bar restaurant as well as one more formal dinner in the elegant dining room of the Manor house. Both options were impressive. We were also delighted by an invitation to a drinks/canapes reception in the music room of the Manor House where we had a chance to socialise with other guests. This was further confirmation of a constant desire to make guests feel valued.

The staff at all levels are highly-trained and professional in their attitudes. The friendly, cheerful and attentive restaurant staff were always delightful.

A word of warning: this hotel is such a haven of tranquillity that it is difficult to force yourself out into the bustle of Funchal. Any trip outside the walls left us yearning to return as soon as possible.

Now, in rain-soaked Sheffield, it all seems like a distant dream.

A very special hotel in a spectacular setting. Beautiful well tended gardens surrounding the original manor house and additional wing. All the staff gave us a warm & friendly welcome. To be woken by the sound of birdsong is a wonderful way to start the day. Followed by a breakfast of fresh juices, fruits, breads & pastries as well as a good selection of hot options. Dinner in the gardens of the manor house overlooking the lawns & terraces is not to be missed.
This is definitely a place to return to again & again.

Excellent stay

We stayed for a week: we had booked the premium suite but we were very lucky to get an upgrade to the Manor House. We thoroughly enjoyed the grounds, the pool, the restaurant, the bar and the breakfast.
The staff is very helpful and friendly. The location is wonderful, feels like away from the city while in reality it is next door.
We’ll be back.

We enjoyed everything about this hotel. The staff, service and food are exceptional.
We had an upgraded room which was large , bright and new.
There are two heated pools, one for adults only.
We had the gourmet dinner menu on the Wednesday night which is paired with wine and costs 85 Euro per person. It was a wonderful experience.
Breakfasts are wonderful.
Location is great too. One can walk into the heart of the town within 10 minutes.
Would definitely stay here again. Stay included one spa treatment for my wife and I.
