Wonderful birthday break
Reviewed 1 day ago

We had a short break of five nights and absolutely loved this hotel.

We received an upgrade to a Manor House suite when the reception staff noticed from my passport that my birthday fell during our break. The suite was lovely, spacious and spotlessly clean - it also had a private balcony which was accessed across the landing from the suite. The balcony was huge with a mini-bar, loungers, table and chairs plus a glorious view over the fantastic gardens.

The room also had a mini bar with complimentary soft drinks, plus a nespresso machine with capsules replaced daily.

Breakfast is great with a lot of choice and it was warm enough in March to eat outside. There’s a happy hour every evening and we enjoyed drinks on the terrace, again with lovely views of the gardens. The two pools are very well kept, the water was pretty fresh in March despite being heated, but the sitting areas are very peaceful and attractive.

We only dined in the hotel on one evening. The fine dining restaurant is in the Manor House. We enjoyed our meal, although the service was rather slow. The menu was very similar to the William Restaurant at Reid’s which we had visited the evening before (it’s a short walk from da Casa Branca).

My birthday brought more treats from the hotel in the form of a lovely cake (delivered with a song to our breakfast table) and a bottle of fizz sent to our room later that day. All the staff we encountered were very professional and friendly.

We found Madeira to be a stunning place (definitely hire a car to explore the amazing scenery), loved Funchal and we’ll definitely return to the island and this hotel.

First class

Stayed for 14 nights and can only say what a world class hotel.stayed in a premium garden room and upgraded to half board can say the extra cost is well worthwhile. Spotlessly clean rooms and first class food at breakfast and evening meal. High praise for all members of the staff.stunning gardens and so peaceful. Not a hotel for those who like to party all night or like daytime activities, just relaxation and peace and quiet. Will certainly recommend it.

Low Key Elegance
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This hotel is suitable for travellers who prefer to be in Funchal, but to have a quiet and low key retreat, and who are interested in gardens, flora and architecture. The standard rooms in the new building have direct access to a semi-private terrace with lounge chairs and a view of the garden. The rooms are very comfortable (though it took some guidance to learn how to use the shower head). The breakfast included a lot of fruit and some local pastries as well as standard far (for German travelers, bircher musli, for British travelers sausage and mushrooms), with the option to order eggs from the kitchen. We booked a special rate, which included 30 minute massage for each guest. Travelling at the end of Februar, we found the heated pool still to be a tad too cold, and did not make much use of it. But the pool facilities are fantastic. We also used the spa only once (a constantly running television in the exercise room was a bit off-putting). The service personnel are excellent and quick to help. My partner celebrated a birthday while there, and unbeknownst, the hotel surprised us with a delicious chocolate cake at the breakfast table, and in the evening a bottle of bubbles and plates to finish the cake. Madiera is not a culinary paradise, and we never visited the restaurant in the main hotel, but the culture trip we managed to find a number of decent restaurants in the immediate vicinity. If we return to Madeira, it will be to this hotel for sure.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this super hotel, on arrival the staff were very professional and friendly, we were delighted to be upgraded into the Manor House although the deluxe suite we had booked was equally as nice. The huge bed was extremely comfortable and the suite spotlessly clean. What makes this special is it is not one of these high rise, busy hotels, it is set in the most beautiful gardens with comfy sun loungers and outside room service! The breakfast was wonderful with a huge choice and you can also request something freshly cooked. They have a gym, jacuzzi and spa. We used all of these, the spa treatment was very relaxing and not far to venture back to the pool or suite. The service was exceptional as was each member of staff. It was set away from the busy hotel area but still within walking distance of restaurants, Goya being our favourite. We will definitely come back to Madeira and will not hesitate to stay at the Quinta da Casa Branca again.

Excellent place to stay

We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite, which was fantastic. It was in the old manor house, had a large bedroom, sitting room, bathroom and balcony. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. The grounds are amazing - they keep winning garden of the year. Breakfast was lovely - a wide range of food, especially locally grown fruit. As our stay was in February, we could not take advantage of the swimming pool, or eating outside. We must return!
