How to Get There
The Alhambra is a very special, classy, gracious hotel that is almost perfect and almost exquisite. We loved almost every feature but there are a few major deal breakers.
+ Location - at the quiet end of Cikat Bay, at the start of a lovely pedestrian walk all the way to the Borik Beach Club cafe to the east. Note - Losinj Hotels and Resorts owns all of this - the villas, the hotels, and the restaurants. Still, it's one of the prettiest seafront walks ever, with lots of shade. It's also an extremely easy walk to "town".
+ The "little things" -- this is one of those "wow, they think of everything!" hotels (well, almost). Major positive attributes include: (1) a minibar in which everything is complementary; that is refilled twice a day; and that they will put in what you like to have - so nice not to be nickel and dimed for a bottle of water or a soda. (2) lighting in the room that offers multiple settings and easy door and bed access; (3) a gorgeous marble bathroom with not only cushy towels but also a "boutique" white cloth box with little amenities; (4) plenty of storage space in two built in armoires although sadly only one luggage rack (when will hotels realize that two people usually have two suitcases, each needing a rack?!?!); and (5) a beach bag with towels in the closet.
+ the breakfast is the MOST gracious we've ever experienced, and we've stayed in many five star hotels. Our especial thanks to Jelena, Nikola, Matea, and Marija who made our breakfasts the most exquisitely gracious and pleasant experiences. The omelettes, the bread, the fruit, the presentation, the setting, the white glove service - it all was simply incredibly oustanding.
+ the private deck that is the "beach" is a very pretty, quiet spot with the most comfortable and clean cushy lounge chair cushions I've ever enjoyed.
+ the bedroom linens and mattress are very comfortable. Unlike many hotels now, they change the sheets daily unless you put the sign on the bed saying not to. That is very appreciated.
+ the spa is very well thought out and incredibly lavishly decorated (not necessary and very costly we guess); but basic spa service is complementary with the room rate which is nice. The pool area is gloomy and humid.
+ The staff is consistently pleasant, helpful, courteous, personable, and professional.
+ Guests have access to the very nice, well equipped, clean and well airconditioned gym at the next door sister hotel, the Bellevue.
Major NEGATIVE-- Room climate control. This is a deal breaker. We deliberately seek out hotels that have individual room level control over temperature (heat and cooling). The Alhambra's website was very clear about offering room level, individual climate control. When we checked in, it was rather hot weather. We overheard another guest complaining about how his room was too hot and the AC was not working; the manager explained to him that the temperature was centrally set and controlled hotel wide and the coolest that the room could be set to was 23 Celsius. The manager checking us in did not mention this at all, and when we asked, the answer was "well it is too cool to set the central temperature to be lower than 23." They told us that the hotel was still set on "heating" control and would not be turned to "cooling" control despite the fact that the weather was already extraordinarily warm across Europe. We asked for several options -- such as closing our room off from the heating, and the answer was always an unapologetic no this is not something we can do. This is a boutique luxury five star hotel, during warm weather, and they would not / could not isolate one room from heat? not turn on the cooling for one room? turn on the cooling for the whole hotel? expand the minimum temperature to be lower than 23 as an option for those guests who want a cooler room? We were flabbergasted but chose not to complain but to see how it went. It was miserable. The only option they gave us was to open the windows. Well, with a very rainy spring, and all the vegetation, mosquitos were everywhere - and these are biting, nasty, large, relentless insects. We barely slept for all the nights we stayed there, between the oppressive heat and the mosquitoes if we opened the windows. This contradicts the claimed and falst "individually room controlled climate" and please note that this hotel thus caters to the German and Austrian tourists who believe that air conditioning / klimatization is bad for one's health. This really made what could have been a wonderful experience completely miserable.
There are other but much smaller things that were less positive than the very positive attributes (e.g. please turn down the temperatue in the little gym from a roasting 26 degrees celsius) but the major issue is the lack of true room level climate control.
We stayed here for our honeymoon. We had a beautiful suite overlooking the water. From the minute we walked in we felt like we were spoiled. Because it's a small hotel, there is never any "hustle-bustle" in the lobby. Whenever I went to talk to the desk/concierge to book a day trip or spa appointment or ask a question, it felt like I was the only one there. For travel when arriving/leaving the island, we worked with someone at the hotel to book a private plane transfer from Rjeka to Mali Losinj and then from Mali Losinj to Ljubljana. I highly recommend this, as it made the travel seamless. We had an excellent driver from the airport to the hotel who showed us the town and pointed out things to do. We also worked with the concierge while we were there to set up a boat trip and a sailboat trip, two full-day excursions which were amazing. Each morning we had breakfast at the beautiful Alfred Keller restaurant, and we also had dinner there on two nights (it was so good we had to go back a second night). The staff was wonderful - the restaurant staff, room service, maid service, concierge, spa, skipper, everyone. We went to the beach every day and enjoyed the view as well as drinks and food from the Beach Bar brought right to us in our beach chairs. Finally, we loved that we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. Sometimes we walked to town to get ice cream or a drink, and other times we walked around the bay to have dinner. We will definitely, definitely be back!
The hotel staff is very good and the bay is a holiday paradise.
We had a suite 106 and the view could be pittoresque but is a wall of a building. Rather take a room with a view than a suite with a wall.
We stayed three nights in this beautiful, romantic and luxurious hotel. Everything was exceptional, especially the staff (very attentive and helpful).
Breakfast was very good (à la carte) and we had dinner once in the Gault&Millau restaurant Alfred Keller (impressive and excellent). For the other nights the hotel gave us good recommendations for dinner-restaurants nearby.
There is a very nice private beach area. The whole place is quiet and relaxing (but it’s not an adults-only hotel unfortunately and there is soft ambient music at the beach).
The rooms in the red villa are modern in technology but not so much in design. Everything was functional, comfortable and very clean nevertheless (e.g. complimentary (non alcoholic) mini-bar, good WiFi throughout the hotel, pillow-menu). The bathroom was exceptional beautiful and classy.
We were never in a hotel, where the manager was around as often as in this place. You can see that as a sign of the overall high standard of this hotel. We would definitely recommend the Alhambra Boutique Hotel if you like small, quiet and splendid hotels.
Everything is perfect. Room in the old villa with all amenities and sea view.

Off season mid june when the hotel is not full it is a delight to stay in this hotel
