Breathless has a prime spot on Medano Beach, a safe and—rare for Cabo—swimmable beach at the very southern tip of the peninsula. In addition to meals, snacks, and beverages (alcoholic and otherwise) being included in the room rate, there are plenty of other thoughtful extras like morning poolside yoga instruction, tequila tastings, and group activities that run the gamut from pole dancing lessons to giant Jenga games. All of the 169 rooms are spacious suites, and each has a large bathroom with double sinks, a complimentary mini-bar (refreshed daily), and its own furnished balcony with views of either the ocean or the nearby marina. The resort mostly draws guests in their 30s and 40s—down to party, but not raging like the college set that heads to Cabo for spring break— hence the “quiet” pool, which is chilled out and DJ-free. There are 12 restaurants and bars, including poolside and beachside bars, although drinks at some, like the sophisticated tequila bar La Biblioteca, aren’t included in the room rate (we’d suggest splurging on them anyway).
In the Area
With swimmable Medano Beach directly in front of the hotel and the town immediately behind it, there’s no lack of things to keep you busy. Stroll down the boardwalk, which is crowded with bars, restaurants, and shops, or work off the effect of all those margaritas with parasailing, scuba diving, zip lining or flyboarding excursions, all of which can be booked through the hotel. Party spots like Cabo Wabo Cantina and The Nowhere Bar (and many, many more) are walking distance from Breathless. Shoppers can head to Puerto Paraiso, a massive mall half a mile away, to restock their supplies of flip-flops and bikinis.
How to Get There
Stayed here for a week in October. Francisco was great in the Club Exhale and helped us upgrade to the top floor suite facing the ocean. The room was beautiful. Loved the toiletries and the view. Bed and pillows were so comfortable. Luis in Club Exhale was great, too.
Totally basic food but that’s ok. We never ate dinner in any of the restaurants—we just had pool food and room service. The room service was hit or miss. I ordered tea our last night there and they brought a 4 oz cup of hot water. No teapot?!?!? The pool was really old and ratty. Such a disappointment. There was so little seating on the beach that basically you were sitting on top of everyone else in those 20 seats available listening to their life stories. Hector was a very good pool server.
When the entertainment staff busted out the foam machine in the pool then I knew this was not the place for us. There are so many obnoxious drunken D Bags at the pool that the security staff had to monitor them.
So, yup. Not going back.
The location next to the marina was great, beautiful views and great for a short walk into town. Main pool has a beautiful view and they throw a great party on Saturdays. Williams was awesome at the pool, great service. The food was less than average and we seemed to always have a hard time finding food, hours seem a bit weird and whenever we wanted something it was always closed...or you had to go to other end of hotel. This is definitely not close to a 4 start hotel: both pools are a hot mess and need to be completely redone (missing tiles, broken tiles, broken stones, zero mortar left just bad overall construction and upkeep) and I think what was most disappointing is how dirty the hotel was. Everywhere you looked was really dirty walls and doors, even in the rooms. Hotel okay if you okay with a 3 star hotel, I would definitely recommend for that....but not 4 star hotel by any means. It won't be somewhere we would be returning. I'm actually really surprised by positive reviews.
