Recently revamped Mission-style resort in Bel Air’s lush hills, with a Wolfgang Puck restaurant and La Prairie Spa
Closed for two years while undergoing a glam transformation, the pink Spanish Mission–style resort now embodies Hollywood's 1930s and 1940s golden era with a mix of custom-made furnishings with high-tech gadgetry. Taking advantage of the eternally blue skies, all public spaces incorporate the outdoors: a retracting roof over the restaurant, lovely alfresco seating in the bar, and patios in the spa. The 12-acre grounds are scored with pathways and filled with hundreds of local and exotic trees, palms, ferns and flowers.
Bed and Bath
Designed by Alexandra Champalimaud, the 103 guestrooms, including 12 new Canyon View Rooms — many with indoor and outdoor fireplaces, balconies or patios — are outfitted in luxe textures and materials such as Italian linen and silk. Floors throughout are clad in marble and decorated in a palette of soothing chocolate-browns and creamy latte hues. Bang & Olufsen TVs swivel (or pop up) from walls, and spacious bathrooms feature verbena-scented Anne Semonin products, separate tubs (with their own TV) and rain showers. Dinner reservations and room service can be arranged at the touch of an iPad.
Dining on seasonal dishes on the alfresco terrace at Wolfgang Puck is a must, as is ordering the Market Fresh Tasting Menu paired with top-notch wines. Love the Dover sole you tasted or the martini you sipped? The hotel offers interactive classes taught by Puck’s team. At the new 4,000-square-foot Spa by La Prairie, treatment rooms are done up with delicate hand-illustrated walls, private showers and patios, and the spa menu includes the best in Swiss rejuvenation treatments. A highlight of the renovation is the Lounge Bar, where giant black-and-white photos of music and film legends (Ray Charles, Cher, Tina Turner) hang on dark walls and leather sofas face a grand piano (there's live entertainment every night) and a wood-burning fireplace.
