Swinging bachelor pad with a spot-on Italian restaurant, sunken bar and glittering Beverly Hills views
Upon entering the chandelier-filled lobby of Mr. C Beverly Hills, guests are met not with a front desk (which is hidden discreetly out of view) but with a sunken bar. It’s a fitting intro to the nouveau Rat Pack swagger of Ignazio and Maggio Cipriani’s hotel.
Bed and Bath
Guestrooms reveal a fondness for leather, in a block palette of white, tan or red (the latter in the spacious suites). The bespoke trunks and enormous wooden cabinets were handcrafted in Italy, and the beds have tufted leather or burnished wooden headboards. Vintage film stills and black-and-white photographs adorn the walls, and there are unique details, such as TVs mounted on dark wood easels and minibars hidden in deep chests. The carrera marble bathrooms feature rain showers, double vanity sinks and Mascioni bathrobes and slippers. But the best perk is the view from the private balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows.
The ground-floor restaurant is quintessential Cipriani, with such Italian dishes as tagliolini al pesto Genovese and red mullet with lemon and capers, as well as pizzas topped with burrata, rucola and ham. The restaurant overlooks the 4,500-square-foot pool area, which is open to hotel guests only and has two cabanas (complete with chandeliers), plus a bar and a splurge-worthy spa. A glass pool table and extensive library complement the lobby’s buzzy sunken bar (and late checkout makes hangover recovery a breeze).
In the Area
Even Angelenos enjoy strolling down the pristine lanes of Beverly Hills’ tony shopping district (through they won’t admit it), including flagship-lined Rodeo Drive, where you’ll find Cartier, Prada and Louis Vuitton. Refuel with the stellar baked goods at the whimsical Sprinkles Cupcakes (which has its own cupcake ATM). Watch the deals being brokered over power lunches at the Ivy or Spago, Wolfgang Puck’s legendary restaurant, which got a 2012 face-lift. Take a picnic and enjoy the panoramic city views from the Richard Meier–designed Getty Center, a 15-minute drive away. Also nearby is the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA to locals), a 20-acre campus with a Renzo Piano building, alfresco cafés and cocktail joints, and more than 100,000 works of art.
