Royal residence turned hotel on posh Park Lane, with an award-winning Italian restaurant and a pampering spa
In a plum location near Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace and all the shops along Bond and Oxford Streets, the InterContinental London Park Lane is a sprawling city hotel with more than 500 rooms and suites. A favorite with both business travelers who appreciate the central location and tourists ready to hit the sights, the hotel has the scale and top staff to appeal to travelers of all stripes. The public spaces are stately but modern, with monochrome marble flooring and statement chandeliers in the spacious lobby, while the guestrooms have a more traditional style. Most of the 447 guestrooms and 60 suites are done up in gold, blue and cream, with embroidered curtains, decorative molding and patterned armchairs, plus mod cons like flat-screen TVs, minibars and tea- and coffeemakers. Classic Rooms have internal courtyard views, while Executive Rooms and Suites overlook the surrounding royal parks and Park Lane. The bathrooms are on the small side, but most have full tubs and overhead showers. Downstairs, guests have their pick of two restaurants, the all-day Cookbook Café and the award-winning Italian eatery Theo Randall at the InterContinental, as well as three bars, including the Arch Bar (a must for gin lovers) and the Wellington Lounge, which overlooks the iconic namesake arch. For another kind of indulgence, the Spa InterContinental offers pampering massages, body wraps and beauty treatments, all using British-made Elemis products.
