Serene sleep with a a sky-high pool and cocktail bar in Renzo Piano's stunning London showpiece
You'll never tire of London during a stay at this modern-day icon, with its gob-smacking views of the city. The 202 rooms, spread across floors 36-50 of the Renzo Piano-designed The Shard, sport an executive-friendly, clean-lined simplicity: think a gray, blue and beige color scheme, tasteful abstract art and tons of natural light. While the setting is unmistakably London -- you can see the River Thames through any of the floor-to-ceiling windows -- the Hong Kong-based brand's Asian hospitality shines through in touches like cups of Chinese tea upon check in and a 24-hour concierge service. But it's the views that really set this hyper-modern player above the rest of the pack: doing laps in the infinity pool on level 52 means taking in spectacular views towards St Paul’s Cathedral, and even the fitness center has floor-to-ceiling panoramas to help the workout fly by. The farm-to-table dining at TĪNG is available a la carte or as tasting menus, and there's also a traditional English afternoon tea on offer, plus an Asian-style one.
In the Area
Just a five-minute walk from the hotel is Borough Market, a great spot to gather provisions for a picnic by the Thames, or simply to people-watch. Take advantage of London's world-class cultural scene while you're at the heart of it: catch a show in the West End, London's famous theater district, or marvel at the treasures contained within the Tate Modern, one of the world's greatest contemporary art spaces. Rub shoulders with the toffs and finance titans at nearby Canary Wharf, a modern biz-centric district featuring a waterfront cinema, several upscale shopping malls and the UK's largest collection of public art.
