In the heart of Westminster, this hotel is surrounded by history, though the rooms are modern and the service snappy
In a building that once held government offices, the Conrad has turned its six floors into a luxury hotel (though you’re still likely to spot Westminster denizens holding meetings in the lounge and bar). It stands apart from competitors with its provocative art collection; the proudly British menu at the Blue Boar restaurant, which boasts house-smoked Cornish mackerel and roast cod; and a concierge team that tailors their recommendations to each guest. Every room comes with a Nespresso machine and the large bathrooms all have separate tubs and walk-in showers. It’s really the hotel’s prime positioning that makes it such a good choice for visitors, though: on Westminster’s doorstep, it’s in the very heart of the city.
In the Area
The St. James’ Park tube station is just across the street from the hotel, making access to all the offerings of London as handy as can be. There’s plenty to see within a few minutes’ walk, though, including Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament. If it’s your first time in London, you couldn’t do better. Finding non-touristy eating and drinking options nearby takes a bit of work, but The Cinnamon Club is a gem: the stunning lofty space is lined with books and serves gourmet, inventive Indian dishes that you’ll remember long after you’ve paid the check. An outpost from homegrown celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, Jamie’s Italian, is also nearby.
