Overview

A luxe hotel in the romantic Navigli neighborhood, with a gentlemen's-club-style bar and retro charm

The Lowdown

There’s no shortage of retro style at The Yard Hotel, a seriously impressive boutique hotel in Milan. Set in a horseshoe-shaped building in the canal-filled Navigli neighborhood, this four-star gem has become one of the coolest addresses in the city. Boasting eclectic décor and hip clientele, the hotel is right at home in Italy’s fashion capital. And with the complimentary bicycle and skate rental, you’ll have no problem discovering the celebrated art, architecture and cuisine that make this city famous.
The vision of owner Alessandro Cesario, the hotel offers stylish guest rooms, each characterized by a unique sporting theme. Add in plush beds, flat-screen TVs, ultra-chic bathrooms and all sorts of vintage curios and cutting-edge design touches, and chances are you won’t want to leave. The pièce de résistance here is the popular Doping Club – a swanky lounge bar with an English-gentlemen’s-club vibe, where you can order delicious food, sink a few cocktails and while away the hours over a few games of backgammon.
Good to know
Please note that a city tax of €5 per person, per night is payable directly to the hotel upon check-out.

Suites

Each of the individually designed Junior suites is characterized by a sporting theme: golf, hunting, rugby, boxing, motorcycling, football, fencing and more. The room serves as a welcoming retreat, with a comfortable double bed (or two singles), statement-making artwork from the owner’s personal collection and a chic, modern bathroom.

Dining

Delicious breakfasts worth getting out of bed for are served every morning until 11:30am (12pm on weekends). You’ll find baskets filled with fresh pastries, croissants, breads, fresh fruit, organic jams, muesli and yogurt, as well as coffees and cappuccinos to help you start your day. Later on, the impressive Doping Club, a swanky lounge bar with an English-gentlemen’s-club vibe, will take care of all your dining and drinks needs. You can order delicious food, sample creative cocktails prepared by top mixologists and play a game of backgammon or two. Room service is also available during select hours.

Location

You’ll be staying in Milan’s historic Navigli neighborhood, famous for its two canals (Naviglio Grande and Naviglio Pavese), art galleries, cafés, restaurants, bars and design shops. Located just a five-minute walk from Genova train station, the hotel makes getting around the city a breeze. Must-dos include gazing in wonder at the magnificent Duomo (the third-largest church in Europe), marveling at Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper at Santa Maria delle Grazie, learning about the city’s Roman legacy at the Archaeological Museum and taking a guided tour of La Scala Opera House.

Pricey, funky, hard to locate

Hubby was lecturing at Bocconi University so stayed nearby at this hotel. Had to circle the block twice to see the narrow closed metal gate to pull in. Each room has a campy theme. Ours was the “Puck” , decor was vintage hockey gear. Bar is too cool with taxidermy birds, model Titanic, vintage photos, etc. Room was comfortable. Breakfast adequate with eggs being extra. I guess I’m am just not young enough to appreciate that level of “hipness”

One of the most interesting hotels I've ever seen

An outstanding experience. The decor of the hotel is entertaining and the courtesy of the staff is unparalleled. Has great rooms, is quiet despite being in the middle of the city and easily accessible.

A very memorable stay.
