Overview

The Review

The Ferragamo-owned Lungarno hotel group opened its Roman town house outpost in 2006, hot on the heels of a flurry of hotels opened in the family’s birth town of Florence. On a backstreet just off busy shopping thoroughfare Via Condotti, the hotel has earned a reputation for its discreet and in-the-know service.

As you would expect from such a historic brand, Portrait Suites displays its fashion pedigree throughout the interiors. Exquisite shoe casts are on show in boxes, and I found myself gazing at footwear sketches and black-and-white photos of Hollywood stars trying on models with old Mr. Ferragamo himself.

Designed by Michele Bonan, who’s responsible for the other Lungarno hotels, the five studios and eight suites are all equipped with satellite TV, DVD players and kitchenettes. There aren’t many public spaces or a restaurant in-house, highlighting the hotel’s philosophy that you should be luxuriating in the intimacy of your private domain.

For me the only drawback is that there aren’t great views from guestrooms, as the hotel overlooks a busy shopping street or faces buildings. More than making up for this, however, is the chic rooftop with comfy sofas and an all-white fireplace. Order a preprandial prosecco and soak in the spectacular 360-degrees views of the Eternal City.

We had the most wonderful week at this hotel. It is quiet and peaceful but very close to all major attractions. The staff are lovely, so kind and helpful and their recommendations were excellent. Easily one of the best hotels that we have ever stayed in, it was hard to leave!

Stylish Italian boutique hotel

What a great hotel, 14 rooms, no restaurant but who cares. In a great location just off the Via dei Condotti and close to Spanish steps, we had a fantastic 4 day stay here. The staff are so friendly and helpful, the breakfast is superb and the room was stunningly stylish (two level room and bathroom/ sauna and walk in dressing room). The bed was the most comfortable we'd slept in, ever.

They organised restaurant bookings and opera tickets, nothing was too much trouble. Recommend Osteria Siciliana or Santovino as good local restaurants - full of Italians.

Best Hotel I’ve stayed in by a long shot.

The service is unreal at this hotel. They are always there when you need them, even at 3 in the morning but they are never intrusive so you can go about your day without interruption. The rooms are stunning and clean with gorgeous views. The roof top loft has breakfast daily with a nice spread and a spa like feeling. It is outdoors but we experienced it during the cold of January and with the heaters, it was just superb. It is also available for evening cocktails. The hotel is centrally located near everything. I can’t recommend this hotel enough.
