The Review

The Ferragamo-owned Lungarno hotel group opened its Roman town house outpost in 2006, hot on the heels of a flurry of hotels opened in the family’s birth town of Florence. On a backstreet just off busy shopping thoroughfare Via Condotti, the hotel has earned a reputation for its discreet and in-the-know service.

As you would expect from such a historic brand, Portrait Suites displays its fashion pedigree throughout the interiors. Exquisite shoe casts are on show in boxes, and I found myself gazing at footwear sketches and black-and-white photos of Hollywood stars trying on models with old Mr. Ferragamo himself.

Designed by Michele Bonan, who’s responsible for the other Lungarno hotels, the five studios and eight suites are all equipped with satellite TV, DVD players and kitchenettes. There aren’t many public spaces or a restaurant in-house, highlighting the hotel’s philosophy that you should be luxuriating in the intimacy of your private domain.

For me the only drawback is that there aren’t great views from guestrooms, as the hotel overlooks a busy shopping street or faces buildings. More than making up for this, however, is the chic rooftop with comfy sofas and an all-white fireplace. Order a preprandial prosecco and soak in the spectacular 360-degrees views of the Eternal City.

The best hotel in Rome!

Thank you to all the staff who made our second visit so wonderful! Portrait is a beautiful boutique hotel with the best personalised service we have received in all our travels.
The location is superb!
This trip we travelled with my elderly parents and young son and all the staff were so accommodating and attentive to our needs.
Everything was perfect and the roof top is stunning, we stayed in most nights and enjoyed food and drinks up there!
Thank you also for the wonderful anniversary surprise, room upgrade and toys and amenities for our son Vittorio. He had a great time too!
We cannot wait to return next year.

We stayed here in 2016 for my 30th birthday - our first big trip away from my first son. It was our first time to Rome. This hotel was the highlight of the trip! We had come from the Portrait in Florence where we also had an amazing stay... Upon check-in, we were presented with a pillow menu and asked if we would like anything special at turn down service. Each night they brought me a glass of red wine and dark chocolate. Talk about high-touch! Another treat was the iPad in the room with WhatsApp... we brought the iPad with us and would message the hotel for recommendations based on where we were. They were always on the ball with the best recommendations. Beautiful rooms, unbeatable location, and the best service. Would love to return! Cannot recommend highly enough.

We love the Portrait properties. Firenze last year was fabulous and Roma this year was truly magical. The Roma property is wonderfully located atop the Ferragamo store on Vie Condotti. With only 14 room- suites it is a very small hotel. But don't let the small size concern you. The service is amazingly intimate yet wonderfully respectful of privacy. We arrived in the morning from JFK having not slept on the overnight flight. Our room was upgraded and made available immediately upon arrival; it was immaculate, spacious, and had a large window perched above the most famous shopping street in all Italy, bustling by day and quiet and calm by night. The bed was very comfortable with several pillow options available from the pillow menu. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. Since our sleep schedule was so discombobulated, the butlers Javad and Thomas arranged in room dining service from a local restaurant. The next morning, the concierge (Julie) was able to arrange a last minute tour of the Vatican and lunch reservations at Roscioli which was a perfect 10; one of those very rare, magical restaurant experiences that just don't come around very often. The breakfast on the rooftop of the Portrait Roma was the highlight of our experience there. The key was Alessia who had prepared the most amazing spread of the freshest and tastiest of breakfast foods. Everything you could possibly imagine at the highest quality level. And… what a lovely human being she is! The Portrait is lucky, and so were we, to have all of these wonderful people working there. The rooftop is beautiful and romantic with wonderful views in every direction. Check-out and transfer was perfect. We have stayed at numerous 5 star properties all over the globe. This one is the creme de la creme. Well done indeed. We will definitely be back!
