Overview

Intimate six-room retreat on the banks of the Tiber, a 15-minute stroll from the Spanish Steps

The Lowdown

On the banks of the Tiber, a short stroll from the Spanish Steps and Piazza Navona, Luxury on the River is a characterful crash pad with just six guestrooms. The minimalist interiors are offset by antique furniture, plush velvet couches and colorful artworks. Lofty ceilings and huge picture windows keep things light and bright. The six guestrooms feature putty-colored walls, ash-gray wood floors and leather-look padded headboards, and the bathrooms feature chunky bowl sinks. The spacious Junior Suites are split-level and overlook the river, and the Executive Room has a Jacuzzi tub. There’s no restaurant, but the small breakfast room is a light-flooded spot overlooking the Tiber, with a crackling fireplace and shelves stuffed with books.

In the Area

This city is made for strolling. Walks along the river and to the Vatican, including St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel, are all within easy reach of the hotel. Located in the Flaminia neighborhood, the MAXXI museum houses contemporary art in a stunning building designed by Zaha Hadid. The lively Trastevere neighborhood, a hotbed of bars, nightlife and restaurants, is a 30-minute walk. Splurge at the gourmet Glass Hosteria, helmed by noted chef Cristina Bowerman. If you want to venture a little farther, head an hour northeast from Rome to explore Tivoli’s UNESCO-approved Villa d’ Este gardens.

Perfect quiet place to stay when in Rome
Reviewed 6 days ago

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Luxury on the River. After a manic day sightseeing it was the perfect spot to recover. The reception area, breakfast room and our bedroom were all very well presented, clean and comfortable. A good continental breakfast was available plus tea, coffee and mini bar in the room. All the major sights are in walking distance yet the property was quiet and peaceful. The star of the show was the lovely Beatrice! Delightful, efficient, patient and amusing, she talked us through a walking map, highlighting the 'must see' highlights. She made our trip even more memorable. We couldn't recommend this place more highly!

Great location!

The apartment is situated in a great location not far from most attractions in Rome.

We were disappointed with our room. When we booked the apartment was not available.

The decor is interesting.

The lift is handy for luggage, and old style which all contributed to the charm of the building.

The bed is very comfortable. The breakfast was modest but adequate. Coffee with a simple continental breakfast. We’ve stayed for three nights and the same cake was served three days in a row, it was pretty dry and stale by day three, not that we wanted to eat cake for breakfast but seeing the same food day after day is a bit worrying.

Sadly the room didn’t quite live up the the “luxury” we’ve expected. The bathroom was very very small. The shower was so small could barely bent over to pick up shampoo that fell off the shelf that is on a angle in the shower.

With a name Luxury on the river we’ve expected a room with a view over the river, sadly that’s it the case. As a matter of fact the blind could not open so we could not get any daylight in our room. When we went to reception to ask if the blind could be fixed there was no one to assist.

Then there is the matter of the very bad smell from the drains in the bathroom, it got particularly bad during the night to a point that it actually gave us headache. It absolutely stank!

Sadly there was no one at reception when we checked out to convey our experience or to let them know about the bad smell in our room. There was the breakfast waiter but we didn’t feel he was the right person to speak to about our experience.

Sadly it was not Luxury on the river for us.

Nice location, respectful waiter

The location is near the main attractions, nice room and very clean. The breakfast was great to start the day. They offer espresso/ cappuccino in the morning and the waiter/cleaner/ desk person (he was the man of many traits) was polite and respectful. The room is lovely but since the bathroom roof is open and connected to the room, be aware of hearing/smelling everything..😀
We arrived in a very rainy day and the hostess was not at the hotel and neither did she provide the code to go inside. We had to wait in the soaking rain for 20 minutes ; when we met her; the hostess didn’t even apologize to us.

Beautiful and spacious apartment.
All modernized and renovated.
Great location. Affordable and friendly host. Will definitely stay here again. Hotel is located near majority of major attractions. Much better than just a hotel room.

First of all can we just say a massive Thank you to Beatrice (Host), she went above and beyond to make us feel very welcome from the second we arrived to when we had left. She gave us some general info about the area ie: best places to go and eat, places to visit and shown us how to get there by foot as well as on a bus. The hotel is in a great location to all sight seeing attractions bars & shops. Well what can I say about the room it was just stunning, the cleanliness was exceptional. The breakfast was a good fix to get you to lunch. We would definitely recommend here and we will be returning very soon.
Thank you again Beatrice & all the staff 👍.
