Overview

Intimate six-room retreat on the banks of the Tiber, a 15-minute stroll from the Spanish Steps

The Lowdown

On the banks of the Tiber, a short stroll from the Spanish Steps and Piazza Navona, Luxury on the River is a characterful crash pad with just six guestrooms. The minimalist interiors are offset by antique furniture, plush velvet couches and colorful artworks. Lofty ceilings and huge picture windows keep things light and bright. The six guestrooms feature putty-colored walls, ash-gray wood floors and leather-look padded headboards, and the bathrooms feature chunky bowl sinks. The spacious Junior Suites are split-level and overlook the river, and the Executive Room has a Jacuzzi tub. There’s no restaurant, but the small breakfast room is a light-flooded spot overlooking the Tiber, with a crackling fireplace and shelves stuffed with books.

In the Area

This city is made for strolling. Walks along the river and to the Vatican, including St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel, are all within easy reach of the hotel. Located in the Flaminia neighborhood, the MAXXI museum houses contemporary art in a stunning building designed by Zaha Hadid. The lively Trastevere neighborhood, a hotbed of bars, nightlife and restaurants, is a 30-minute walk. Splurge at the gourmet Glass Hosteria, helmed by noted chef Cristina Bowerman. If you want to venture a little farther, head an hour northeast from Rome to explore Tivoli’s UNESCO-approved Villa d’ Este gardens.

Perfect start & Finish to our Italian Holiday
Reviewed 4 days ago

We stayed here for 4 nights upon our arrival in Italy and after having such a wonderful stay spent our final night here too before flying out the next day. What a brilliant way to start 2 wks in Italy. Beatrice and her colleague were welcoming & made our stay feel like a home away from home. Our gorgeous studio was huge, everything we needed & the breakfast delicious my husband says best croissants he’s ever had. Location is perfect not in the hustle bustle just only a short walk to the Spanish Steps, Vatican, Trevi everything we walked everywhere. Thank you for making our time lovely.

We'll be back!

3 night stay, great location, fab accommodation. Whole experience was enhanced by
Beatrice and her team, helpful, kind and very informative. Beatrice provided top tips
for sight seeing and getting around the city with ease. Accommodation was clean
and provided everything we needed for our stay. Breakfast was sufficient and service was good, extra cappuccinos provided without asking.
We will definitely returned, probably for Rugby six nations.

Wonderful accommodations

Beatriz was so friendly and welcoming.

The hotel is conveniently located right on the river and within walking distance of the Castle of Saint Angelo. You could walk to the Vatican, too, though that would be a bit longer if a walk. A park and good food very close.

The rooms were clean, albeit small (typical for Rome). Breakfast is included and very good. The apple juice was green and some of the best I’ve had.

WiFi is free, but speeds are very slow.

Very good service

Perfect location , very central
Rooms are very nice and clean
The overall feeling is actually to be in a private house
Great service, personalised
The manager Beatrice looked after us even before our arrival and
she helped with all our requests especially on how to move around and reach the main attractions.
Definitely recommended!

Hotel canceled booking and took my money
Reviewed 4 months ago

We booked accommodation with hotels.com for Luxury on the River in Rome. We paid R1793 and they took our money. They informed us afterwards that the hotel room is has plumbing issues and they would organize an alternative place for us to stay. The place they organized is an apartment in Piazzale Delgi Eroi and has not been confirmed. It costs R1200. We are due to get there in 2 days. I have called Luxury on the River several times and left a message. They drop my call and stole my money. Please do not get caught up by booking with them
