How to Get There
This hotel doesn't live up to its 5 star rating apart from location and the friendly desk staff. The hotel itself is dated, shabby and in need of a refurb. We were actually shocked on arrival and felt scammed by the photos on booking.com, which are rendered (digitally created) and/or heavily photo shopped. It looks like a completely different hotel. There aren't any of the amenities, luxuries or surprises you would expect from a 5 star hotel. I could list all the reasons we felt let down here- but in summary, the tiny bathrooms and climbing into a tub for a shower, the lack of bathroom products (you squeeze them out of tubes from a wall like a public bathroom), the old and tiny TV, the electricity which tripped in our room twice from using an adaptor plug...no 24/hr room service...the dated decor and mis-matching furniture. They say 'charming' on their literature about the hotel, but really it is just in need of a refresh. If you stayed here and it was a 3* or even a 4* hotel, I think you would be happy, but for the price (comparable to other much nicer hotels in Rome) I think here you are really being charged for location and nothing else. We were also let down by the service on a couple of occasions- not providing us breakfast when we had to leave the hotel at 6:45 and they don't serve until 7am...not delivering cake and champagne for a birthday until chased...begrudgingly serving us lunch in the restaurant when they had a private event that evening and clearly we were an annoyance to them getting ready. We will not be staying here again.
I had to check at reception we were given the right "deluxe" room. It is tiny, dark with a small window and no space to move. Certainly artistic license to call it a deluxe room. Not cheap either. Very disappointed
We were so disappointed by the tiny room. The furniture was scuffed and scratched. There was a desk in the room, but not enough space for a chair in order to be able to sit and use the desk. Only one of us could walk around the room at a time - and we are both thin people. The facade of the hotel is pretty, but, as another writer observed,, “it all goes down hill from there”.
My daughter and I loved this lovely hotel. It is located in a quiet corner of the Piazza Novella in the city center of Rome but when you enter, you feel like you have entered a spa-like retreat. My partner and I are heading to Rome again this summer and will be staying here again. Only one request - please change menu to incorporate foods for all eaters, not just vegetarians.
Could not have been happier! Fantastic location. We walked everywhere. Plaza Navona right around the corner. We were delayed a day (thanks for nothing United Airlines). Had car and driver pick us up at airport. So easy! Staff were wonderful. Upgraded us to a beautiful suite Let us in to nap right away. Generous breakfast kept us going till lunch. Had drinks on the rooftop. Just lovely!
I left a gold necklace behind when we went to Florence. Called the front desk and it had been turned in. Really, how many hotels would that happen at? Driver picked it up, met us at train station in Rome and took us to Rome airport for flight home. Worth every penny!
