On the banks of the Tiber, within walking distance of the Vatican and the Spanish Steps, Hotel dei Mellini is an elegant sleep in a 19th-century palazzo. Brightly colored fabrics and modern velvet armchairs complement traditional dark wood furnishings in the guestrooms, while the hotel’s own art collection is on display throughout. Purple walls provide a fun feature in the Italian marble bathrooms. Breakfast is served in a dining room overlooking a courtyard, but the property’s crowning glory is the sunny roof garden, where you’ll find loungers, colorful potted plants and views of Roman rooftops.
In the Area
The hotel is within a 15-minute walk of both the Spanish Steps and the Vatican — the world’s smallest country and home to the awe-inspiring Sistine Chapel. The area around Hotel dei Mellini is great for strolling; foodies should make a beeline for popular eatery E Cucina Roma, which serves local dishes including tasty vegetarian options. Across the Tiber River, stroll down the picturesque Via di Ripetta before heading into the ancient cobblestone streets of the Centro Storico, where you’ll find quaint coffee shops and traditional boutiques. Don’t miss a trip to the Trevi Fountain for that all-important holiday snap. The hotel is just a few blocks from the Lepanto metro station, which makes it easy to explore farther afield.
How to Get There
It was a great stay at Hotel Dei Mellini, which is located somewhat close to the city center by walking (I didn't need to take the train/cab at all). From the city center, you will need to cross a very short bridge, which we did not mind plus upon walking back to the hotel at night, the bridges were beautifully lit up and if you walk down the stairs, there are many restaurants/smalls eats right next to the river where you can just sit and relax (not sure if this is true for every night). The room was spacious and clean. We stayed on the top floor and they have an outside area with a few beach chairs that you can lay down to tan. Service was wonderful and included is breakfast from 6- 11 AM!
Great location, helpful and friendly staff and clean rooms with everything you'll need. Located btw the Vatican and the old historic city, most aces are within walking distance. Great cost friendly restaurants this side of the river!
After arriving at Rome airport after a 2.5 hour delay, we went to the meeting point for our transfer to the hotel. we told that we would have to wait 2 hours for the next shuttle bus...this was not a great start to our holiday. Upon arriving at the hotel we were not in great mood, however the check in was fast and the staff were friendly. The front desk couldn't haven't been more helpful showing us where all of the local attractions were and recommending some great restaurants. After heading out to get our bearings we headed back to the hotel and had a few drinks in the bar, we were served by Larissa a more happy and smiley lady you couldn't wish to meet she couldn't do enough for us, she was running both that bar and accommodating room service requests and was still smiling ! The location of the hotel meant that everything was within walking distance don't miss a trip to the Villa borghese where you get a panoramic view of the city. Also don't miss the Piazza Navona which is a great place to people watch over a glass or two of vino. The other must see place is the pantheon was also an amazing place in the most unlikely of places. Whilst the well known attractions were amazing too we liked to venture up the side streets where you can find some of the most beautifully decorated church's. Finally we also have to say thank you to Alessandro who is one of the best concierges we have been greeted by he was always happy to come and have a chat and the start and end of the day. Great hotel with super staff wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
Ideal location for walking tours to historic sites in the proximal area: the Vatican, the Cathedral of San Pietro, the Vatican Museum, Fontana Trevi and many more. The accommodation offers are excellent: room comfort, staff attitude, quality of breakfast and the entire hotel atmosphere.
I stayed here two nights as part of a package tour, and couldn't have been happier with both the location and the service provided here. The hotel is central to all the major sites in Rome, making it easy to save on transportation costs while in the city. Check in was a breeze, and the front desk staff were just fantastic. Also, Marco the bellhop was so friendly and helpful!!
The rooms are clean and comfortable, the continental breakfast has lots of options, and the staff was more than happy to hold on to our luggage on our last day from check out time until when we were ready to leave the city.
I couldn't recommend this hotel any more - I will absolutely stay here again!
