On the banks of the Tiber, within walking distance of the Vatican and the Spanish Steps, Hotel dei Mellini is an elegant sleep in a 19th-century palazzo. Brightly colored fabrics and modern velvet armchairs complement traditional dark wood furnishings in the guestrooms, while the hotel’s own art collection is on display throughout. Purple walls provide a fun feature in the Italian marble bathrooms. Breakfast is served in a dining room overlooking a courtyard, but the property’s crowning glory is the sunny roof garden, where you’ll find loungers, colorful potted plants and views of Roman rooftops.
In the Area
The hotel is within a 15-minute walk of both the Spanish Steps and the Vatican — the world’s smallest country and home to the awe-inspiring Sistine Chapel. The area around Hotel dei Mellini is great for strolling; foodies should make a beeline for popular eatery E Cucina Roma, which serves local dishes including tasty vegetarian options. Across the Tiber River, stroll down the picturesque Via di Ripetta before heading into the ancient cobblestone streets of the Centro Storico, where you’ll find quaint coffee shops and traditional boutiques. Don’t miss a trip to the Trevi Fountain for that all-important holiday snap. The hotel is just a few blocks from the Lepanto metro station, which makes it easy to explore farther afield.
How to Get There
Excellent staff in a relatively small-size hotel meant that I was always well attended (laundry always came promptly, room was always cleaned. Lovely room, and easy walk either to the Vatican or to the medieval quarter.
We stayed at the Dei Mellini for four nights and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. On arrival we were told we were in for a pleasant surprise and we certainly were. An upgrade to a suite was more than expected and very much appreciated. The bed we had must have ben eight foot wide and extremely comfortable. My wife who sometimes has problems with finding a pillow that suits found the ones supplied to be just right. But even without the upgrade the hotel had many positive points from the good location (easy reach of all the sites either by walking or by bus), the nice breakfast but mostly the positive and helpful attitude of all the staff.
The best thing about this hotel is the location. It's in a quiet location but is accessible to everything. We walked almost everywhere within 30 minutes. It was a little far from the coliseum but our taxi ride was not expensive. There are tons of great restaurants right near the hotel. The second best thing is the breakfast, which is included. It offers a wide variety of options and everything was delicious. Our room, while small, was quite comfortable. And the staff are friendly and helpful. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Rome who's looking for something convenient but a little off the beaten path.
A very good experience! I would certainly recommend this accomodation to others! Top service! Nice Room well accomodated. Quiet location. Friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast to start the day.Bikes could be better!
This hotel was above and beyond what we expected. Amazing bed, double sinks in the bathroom, a safe, turn down service. Our room was just what we needed at the end of the day and the amazing breakfast was just perfect for the day’s beginning. Also within walking distance to so many of the beauties of Rome. We would recommend this hotel to anyone
