The Donald’s unexpectedly understated Sin City offering, with condo-style rooms, a romantic restaurant, and a large spa
Though the Trump name might be best known for showy excess, this non-gaming luxury hotel just off the Strip is a surprising break from the chaos of the casinos. Sure, the exterior is wrapped in gold, the floors are marble, and the columns drip in crystals, but the understated palette, refined service, and lack of casino din add up to a serene and sophisticated stay. The condo-style rooms feel more urban penthouse than Vegas party pad, with marble entrances, upholstered leather headboards, and European-style kitchens kitted out by Wolf, Bosch, and Subzero while floor-to-ceiling windows offer sweeping views of the city and the surrounding mountains. Bathrooms come with an oversize spa tub, a large shower, twin sinks, huge bath sheets, extensive products to keep you ready for the desert sun, and an in-mirror TV to watch as you apply them. These are undeniably some of the best standard hotel rooms in Vegas. In lieu of rattling slot machines and the smell of stale smoke, the Trump offers an 11,000-square-foot spa, a full fitness center, and a seasonal pool deck with wading areas, plentiful woven chaises, daybeds and luxury cabanas (for a fee). In keeping with the getaway vibe, there’s no out-of-control bar scene or animatronic mega-restaurant. Instead, there’s a small poolside café and the romantic DJT restaurant, which serves classic American cuisine like New York strip steaks and lamb chops with sweet potatoes.
In the Area
Though the Trump is just off the Strip, there’s a frequent courtesy shuttle to/from the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, and the Wynn Resort. Head to the latter for a round of golf or to get in on the daytime pool party at the resort’s Encore Beach Club. If you’re more of a sports bar person, watch Emeril Lagasse take it to the next level at Lagasse’s Stadium, which has 100 HDTVs, leather sofas stepped bleacher-style and haute bar fare. Or rediscover the charms of old-school Vegas with a visit to the Neon Boneyard, the final resting place of the city’s brightest lights. The Daniel Libeskind–designed Crystals, in CityCenter, is the place to go for some Donald-approved spending thanks to Chihuly glass sculptures and carpets made from flowers, not to mention designer baubles by the likes of Balenciaga, Gucci and Lanvin.
