Romantic, recently refurbished Mediterranean-inspired hideaway on the Andaman Sea, will a pool, spa and topnotch cuisine
At this small, Spanish-themed resort, where all rooms face the sea, expect to bask in a warm, romantic feeling. Located on Pantai Cenang, one of Langkawi’s best beaches, Casa del Mar features sun-kissed patios set up for breakfast, lazy deck-chair lunches, pool bar sunsets and moonlit beachside dinners. Situated on the island's west coast, overlooking white sands and turquoise waters, Casa del Mar is a hot spot for amorous couples wanting to catch yet another magnificent sunset over the Andaman Sea while sipping long, cool cocktails. But the star of this boutique resort is its excellent fusion of Asian and Western cuisines, best eaten on the beach during a one-of-a-kind private dinner.
Bed and Bath
All 34 rooms at Casa del Mar offer sea views and have recently been refurbished to offer additional storage space, timber flooring and new “heavenly” beds, along with new furniture and curtains. The porch and terrace areas are timber decks accessed through sliding glass doors, allowing guests to enjoy the sea breeze. There are four room types, with Casa Seaview Deluxe Suites (the largest, at 750 square feet) offering romantic four-poster beds, separate sitting areas, hammocks and double vanities in large bathrooms. Casa Seaview Junior Suites are the next largest and offer a similar setup, plus two balconies each with an ocean view. Beachfront Studio Suites and Casa Seaview Studio Suites are both 452 square feet, with the beachfront studios being the closest to the sea. Rooms are replenished daily with fresh tropical fruit, lemon cookies, Illy coffee and generous bath amenities that include cinnamon soap, ginger shampoo and conditioner, and ginger face spritzer.
With its prime location on Pantai Cenang’s white sand beach, Casa del Mar is all about great food and wine, tropical cocktails and exemplary service in a fabulous setting. There are two romantic beachfront restaurants offering some of Langkawi’s best sunset viewing. La Sal, considered one of the best restaurants on Pantai Cenang, includes a cigar and wine cellar that is home to more than 100 New and Old World wines and is lit nightly by tall candles and flares that cast shadows over the sea. Unwind at the hotel's lagoon pool and Jacuzzi facing the beach or at the Satkara spa, which employs ancient Malaysian traditions and rituals in its treatments.
In the Area
Enjoy a romantic tent picnic on your own remote island with flowing nets and comfy cushions, or take a snorkeling or diving trip to Palau Payar Marine Park or the less crowded southern Thai island of Koh Lipe. To explore Langkawi’s lush rain forest by day, join a mangrove boat tour with Dev’s Adventure Tours, a small eco-friendly company that will have you cruising past craggy limestone outcroppings that rise sharply out of the Andaman Sea and through Langkawi’s mangrove forest, home to hundreds of native jungle species. See a variety of birds, butterflies, monitor lizards, marine creatures, caves with bats and more. By night you can go on a fascinating evening jungle walk to spot flying lemurs and squirrels. For golf lovers Langkawi offers a world class golf course at 99 Degrees East, while a new Ernie Els–designed course is scheduled to open in the late 2013 at Datai Bay Golf Course.
