At this small, Spanish-themed resort, where all rooms face the sea, expect to bask in a warm, romantic feeling. Located on Pantai Cenang, one of Langkawi’s best beaches, Casa del Mar features sun-kissed patios set up for breakfast, lazy deck-chair lunches, pool bar sunsets and moonlit beachside dinners. Situated on the island’s west coast, overlooking white sands and turquoise waters, Casa del Mar is a hot spot for amorous couples wanting to catch yet another magnificent sunset over the Andaman Sea while sipping long, cool cocktails. But the star of this boutique resort is its excellent fusion of Asian and Western cuisines, best eaten on the beach during a one-of-a-kind private dinner.
Bed and Bath
All 34 rooms at Casa del Mar offer sea views and have recently been refurbished to offer additional storage space, timber flooring and new “heavenly” beds, along with new furniture and curtains. The porch and terrace areas are timber decks accessed through sliding glass doors, allowing guests to enjoy the sea breeze. There are four room types, with Casa Seaview Deluxe Suites (the largest, at 750 square feet) offering romantic four-poster beds, separate sitting areas, hammocks and double vanities in large bathrooms. Casa Seaview Junior Suites are the next largest and offer a similar setup, plus two balconies each with an ocean view. Beachfront Studio Suites and Casa Seaview Studio Suites are both 452 square feet, with the beachfront studios being the closest to the sea. Rooms are replenished daily with fresh tropical fruit, lemon cookies, Illy coffee and generous bath amenities that include cinnamon soap, ginger shampoo and conditioner, and ginger face spritzer.
With its prime location on Pantai Cenang’s white sand beach, Casa del Mar is all about great food and wine, tropical cocktails and exemplary service in a fabulous setting. There are two romantic beachfront restaurants offering some of Langkawi’s best sunset viewing. La Sal, considered one of the best restaurants on Pantai Cenang, includes a cigar and wine cellar that is home to more than 100 New and Old World wines and is lit nightly by tall candles and flares that cast shadows over the sea. Unwind at the hotel’s lagoon pool and Jacuzzi facing the beach or at the Satkara spa, which employs ancient Malaysian traditions and rituals in its treatments.
In the Area
Enjoy a romantic tent picnic on your own remote island with flowing nets and comfy cushions, or take a snorkeling or diving trip to Palau Payar Marine Park or the less crowded southern Thai island of Koh Lipe. To explore Langkawi’s lush rain forest by day, join a mangrove boat tour with Dev’s Adventure Tours, a small eco-friendly company that will have you cruising past craggy limestone outcroppings that rise sharply out of the Andaman Sea and through Langkawi’s mangrove forest, home to hundreds of native jungle species. See a variety of birds, butterflies, monitor lizards, marine creatures, caves with bats and more. By night you can go on a fascinating evening jungle walk to spot flying lemurs and squirrels. For golf lovers Langkawi offers a world class golf course at 99 Degrees East, while a new Ernie Els–designed course is scheduled to open in the late 2013 at Datai Bay Golf Course.
How to Get There
My husband and I stayed at Casa del Mar for 7 nights to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We booked a sea view room and were given Bagus which had a lovely view of the beach and sunsets. The room has lots of little touches like peanuts, jar of cookies, wonderful choice of coffee, tea, hot chocolate. Nice bathroom with a sunken bath/shower. The breakfasts are plentiful with lots of choice from a la carte dishes like eggs benedict, dim sum, tandoori wraps which were all delicious. For the fruit fans there is a special station where you can get your fruit prepared. A nice touch is a daily newspaper on your breakfast table. Each evening you are brought the weather for the next few days and a book mark from the spa with a wonderful perfume on it. The staff are wonderful. My husband loved his long island teas made by Ross at the bar. We enjoyed several lovely meals on the beach watching the sun go down. Food was excellent. You can even have your own BBQ if you wish. For our anniversary we were left a lovely bottle of wine in the room. The beach is lovely. White powder sand. It was the rainy season when we were there so it was perhaps not quite as turquoise as it should be but it was like a warm bath. A truly stunning location with wonderful staff. We did not want to leave. Thank you Casa del Mar for an amazingly memorable wedding anniversary. We will be back.
Every lovely thing you read about this hotel is spot on. The care and attention to detail is remarkable - from jugs of iced water, homemade ice cream or cold fruit as you sit at the pool/beach, to the turn down service in which hot chocolate packets and mugs are left out for you in your room in which candles and essential oils have been lit. Rooms are great (we have a beach front studio suite (for my 18 & 21 year olds) and Casa Seaview Junior Suite - this gives us lots of room to all be together in the evening. The rooms seem nicer to me than they look in the photos online.
Staff are ever so pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was delicious.
I had looked at a number of hotel options before making a booking and am very glad I picked Casa Del Mar!
Absolutely wonderful hotel. We stayed a week and the friendly, efficient staff didn't put a foot wrong. All the "little touches" mentioned by others are indeed in place, my favourite being the complimentary real milk in the minibar, for tea. I'd also add that at breakfast time, I had the best mango I've ever tasted.
We visited in July and swam in the sea; no jellyfish problems. Most of the beach is very crowded/commercialized: ridiculous numbers of jet skis and other motorized watersports (almost nothing that's non-motorized), but this place is at the quieter end and feels like a haven. However, the Casa del Mar is not suitable for boisterous groups and as others have said, doesn't really cater to kids. Best for couples seeking a quiet time. It's a little pricey but if this is your budget range and you like a boutique experience, don't hesitate to book.
One further beach tip: if you take an early (daybreak) walk, pick up a stick from the shoreline. We had trouble one morning while running, with 3 local dogs behaving very aggressively. I like dogs but on this occasion did fear being bitten. Once the beach got busier, their behaviour calmed.
My daughter, son in law and two year old granddaughter have been banned from the swimming pool because they are not staying here, we have stayed at resorts all over the world and have never had this experience with family on a day visit! We realise the resort is focused on couples but nowhere on the website does it say children are not allowed. It states children are not catered for in some of the rooms, if the resort is not family friendly it should state Adult Only. If it had, we would not have booked. We had no intention of abusing Casa del Mar's hospitality as we spent a lot of money at the beach bar and restaurant yesterday and would have done so whenever the family visited. We feel very embarrassed and very uncomfortable.
And this has spoiled our whole holiday. Can't wait to leave.....
Casa Del Mar, Langkawi is ideal for all sorts of travellers, Solo like me; Couple.. (Gosh the beach is soooo romantic), Group of friends (Awesome party places just down the road) and families. The rooms are comfortable, the food is yummm, the cocktails are generous and fun but the service... oh the service is something else. The staff here is genuinely happy, cheerful and caring. I miss the staff!
