4th of July week at the Marriott Timber Lodge - S Lake Tahoe

I am biased, being a Marriott owner. What I love is the properties are not super upscale, which doesn't have added value for me. Instead, they are super nice, clean and comfortable. We have a 1 bedroom, which had a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, dining and living areas. The accommodations were very spacious for three people, and the kitchen was handy for a few meals to help offset costs.

The facilities were very nice, with a good workout room, great concierge, heated pool and hot tubs, etc. All situated right next to Heavenly Village and the Heavenly tram. The Bi-state park and hiking is right behind the property.

The one downer was parking. On site valet, or a slightly less expensive parking garage next door. Everything in the immediate area is quite expensive. Get out early for parking at the beaches and parks for hiking, etc. 4th of July was on a Thursday, so traffic was bad all through Friday and the weekend.

Look for more reviews of area restaurants and facilities.

Family friendly

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Marriott Timber Lodge. We found the staff to be kind and helpful - Maria at the concierge desk and Serenya poolside serving drinks stood were stand out employees.

Could not ask for a more central location. You are right at the Heavenly village where you take the gondola up to the ski resort area and close to the Nevada border with the casinos. Keep in mind it is a busy hotel and busy area. We were taken off guard a bit when we first arrived not realizing how busy South Lake Tahoe is especially on a holiday weekend. We learned to appreciate the convenience of numerous restaurants and a grocery store in walking distance. We spent our late afternoons poolside, barbecuing and playing games. Had a blast playing trivia and bingo in the evening.

To make this review five stars we wished Marriott Timber Lodge was pet friendly so we could bring our dog along and my boys wished there was another ping pong table. Other than that we would happily return.

Great location for families or couples

Beautiful property and right in Heavenly Village, just steps away from the gondola, shops, restaurants, miniature golf and a movie theater. The property offers daily activities for all ages for fun and fitness. We had a two bedroom and was a little disappointed that the second bedroom had a king bed instead of two singles or two doubles. Our son brought a friend so they had to alternate sleeping on the pull out couch. They don't have very many rooms with balconies, which was also a little dissapointing since the weather was absolutley gorgeous and it would have been nice to sit outside. We were told they didn't have any rooms with a view of the lake, but our room had a fabulous view. We were in the Alpine building, rm7625 and could see a small portion of the lake. I've attached a picture of the view from the living area of the room at sunrise and sunset. Also, don't bother with the concierge. Their exact words to me as they handed me brocures were "you can book this easier than I can".
