Overview

The Review

Clear Lake, a breathtaking body of water 19 miles long and eight miles wide, is the main attraction in Lake County, and at Clear Lake Bed & Breakfast you have a front row seat to its splendor.

The innkeepers, Gregg and Diane, are always available for anything you might need, and they steered us in the right direction for each day’s activities (which included the sound advice to hike up Mount Konocti, a beautiful dormant volcano that offers spectacular views).

The great room at the entrance to the property certainly earns its name, with French doors wrapping all the way around the building to offer 360-degree views of the scenery. A few steps up from the great room, before you get to the suites, is what can only be described as a movie grotto — home theater does not do it justice. Lush drapes and animal prints abound, with cushy chairs in which to sink to watch the 14-foot screen. Gregg seems to take particular pride in the 29-speaker surround-sound system and “floor shakers,” which bring something special to the movie-watching experience.

The rooms are quaintly appointed, and tidy. Our suite faced directly into the lake, offering views of the mountain and moon reflecting off the water at night. And in the morning we woke to the riotous sounds of birds and the sun shining through slats. Our deck afforded us a place to enjoy the beautiful sight of various aquatic birds gracefully diving into the water.
