Former aristocratic retreat turned Como’s first five-star property, with an emphasis on fine Italian craftsmanship
It wasn’t until 2018 that a high-end hotel finally graced the idyllic, villa-ringed shores of Lake Como. The Lario Hotels Group, a fourth-generation family-owned portfolio with a boutique-ish bend, had an exceptionally tough act to execute when they opted to overhaul one of the township’s most beloved 19th-century manses. The result is most definitely a grande dame in the making: each of the nine renovated rooms and suites wows with jewel-toned drapes from 40-year-old local design house Dedar, Minotti mahogany woodwork, and five types of Italian marble. There’s an air of exclusivity in every ornate crevice here (you’re in a storied palazzo, after all): the hotel’s guests-only rooftop, complete with 300-degree water views and its own infinity bar and restaurant, serves reimagined local standbys like fried spaghetti and steak Rossini, while off-site offerings include high-end adventures like a personal shopping session in Milan and Riva speedboat excursions on the lake.
In the Area
Conveniently located on Piazza Cavour, Como’s central square (just a five-minute walk from the main train station), this property is within easy reach of the township’s many festivals, concerts, and markets. (The Christmas fair, held every December, is especially noteworthy for its array of fancy food vendors.) Explore the area’s forested hills and meandering shoreline on foot, or on a bicycle, courtesy of the hotel. Also worth a visit: the Silk Museum, which unspools the history of a region that supplies 75% of Europe’s silk, and San Fedele, the city’s very first cathedral with exquisitely frescoed ceilings and walls.
How to Get There
Stylish boutique hotel - newly renovated - in great location: in the city of Como and directly on the lake. Walking distance to cathedral, city walls, squares and boat docks.
Charming front desk people (Irene & Giuseppe) to recommend and organise restaurants, garden visits and arrange boat tours - very welcoming!
We upgraded to a suite overlooking the lake - spacious, colourful and immaculate - and enjoyed the restaurant both for breakfasts and a dinner.
Other than the beautiful decor there is absolutely nothing here. The reception is one of a motel greeting. They actually make you pay before even entering the room! Then upon checkout they demanded one more Euro and did not have change for a five Euro bill. Also very very noisy (they even have pairs of ear plugs near the bed)! The complimentary breakfast again was motel type in quality and it is obvious that the only people who have rated this a 5 Hotel are the owners. When the furniture and ambient decor gets worn in a little the correct rating will be evident. 3 Stars at the most! Terribly overpriced and very disappointing. Don't bother.
This was a surprise birthday trip organised by my husband and from the minute we checked-in, until the moment we left, the service was exceptional. There was a surprise birthday cake in the suite on arrival. Our suite was on the third floor looking directly onto Lake Como, so we were totally spoilt with the view from the minute we woke up until when we went to bed. The bathroom was amazing with a bath that looked out onto Lake Como.
Breakfast is served on the fourth floor, which has its own view of the Lake. It is a buffet style to cater for all food types and a menu to order from if you don't fancy the buffet for an extra charge.
Service is very personal and professional, which makes you feel very special. The staff in Reception were very knowledgeable about places to visit and eat.
Decor in the hotel is beautiful - stately and luxurious. Really showing off Italian design and style at its best.
Bed linen was of a high quality and robes and slippers were provided along with many extras in the bathroom.
We did not eat in the Restaurant as it was not to our style and was quite expensive, as are the items in the mini bar and snacks in the room. But this is nothing different to what any other hotel would charge. We prefer to soak up the atmosphere in a local bar or restaurant. There is a shop two doors away where you can get snacks and drinks for your room and save money.
Location is directly off the square by the Lake, where there are restaurants, shops, bars and ATM. Also a 5 minute walk from the water ferry and fernicular train. A great location not far from anything at Lake Como. The only negative is the main road outside the front and you do get some noise from this. As we went out of season we did not have the windows open, but may be different in the summer with windows open.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and felt totally looked after the whole time.
To call this small boutique hotel a gem is an understatement ! From the beautiful décor and renovation that is synonymous of Italian know how… (the Italians really comprehend the concept of integrating
beautiful quality Italian marble in their hallways and creating different layers of interest and visual harmony by mixing the very old and the contemporary !
After a lengthy trip from the United States we entered this unassuming hotel in the center of Como overlooking the lake. We were greeted with warmth and were accompanied to our rooms right away. The hallways were beautiful decorated and well lit with marble floors shining and reflecting the nice walls and artwork. In the background you could hear the beautiful sound of piano playing. Every time we walked through the hallways we were pleased by both the visual, the piano and the delightful clean and fresh scent which permeated the space thanks to a very efficient diffuser !!! This small boutique hotel with approximately 18 rooms was able to give its patrons the feel of a real PALAZZO !!!
The service here was also first class. Everyone was eager to make our stay special. Hospitality rivaled the best hotels which I have had the good fortune to enjoy in Japan and in Switzerland. My daughter and her fiancé both had birthdays during our stay. They were both greeted in the morning on two separate but consecutive days with a large smile, a happy birthday and each had a beautiful birthday cake brought to their room !!! This is a gesture which I have NEVER EVER seen !!!
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who appreciates understated quality and class
We loved everything about the Vista, modern with a touch of classical. Great location, walk to the funicular and many restaurants with lake across the street. The staff there were surperb, from check in to departure. Lovely details in our room and VERY comfortable.
