How to Get There
Just returned from a week's stay at Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana. This was our first time going on an AI holiday. We weren't sure what to expect but our stay was perfect! The resort is beautiful and peaceful The hotel and it's grounds were spotless with staff cleaning constantly.
We had a junior suite swim up room (5175) which was very conveniently located. We were just down the corridor from the main restaurants (Oceana, Portfino and La Riveria Buffet), evening bar and a minute walk to the beach. Despite being so close, we had no issue with noise. In fact, the hotel always felt spacious/quiet and we didn't feel on top of other guests - either at the restaurants, on the beach or in the pool.
The room was large, spotless and mopped daily. Minibar was replenished daily with water, Coke, Diet Coke, Beer, Light Beer, Fanta and Sprite. Only disappointment was the room came with a coffee maker not a kettle (I'm a tea drinker!) However, after grabbing some teabags from the buffet I was able to use the coffee maker without any filters to make a cuppa! Air con in the room worked a treat. Bathroom was large and fancy.
With the swim up room we got an outdoor whirlpool bath, 2 chairs and table, as well as our own 2 private sun loungers. The terrace had a good mix of sun and shade and was cleverly planted for privacy. We spent most of our time on our terrace rather than visiting the pool side area, as it felt like our own little oasis. I would definitely recommend an upgrade to a swim up (especially as it didn't cost much more than a standard room.)
The swim up room connected to the lazy river, as opposed to the main pool. The lazy river was awesome and we never used the main pool. One of the best pools I've been in. Again, we saw staff cleaning it both first thing in the morning and evening. The patio doors can't be locked from the outside of the terrace, but we just pulled the doors closed and left all our valuables in the room's safe. We didn't experience any problems or trouble.
There was a giant chess set and table tennis in the grounds which we enjoyed. You can also go kayaking, snorkelling and have a free scuba session as part of your AI package. The grounds are well planted and cleverly laid out, so there are various areas you can relax. All the areas were quiet and we would often be the only couple around.
Service was impeccable. Lots of staff and always willing to help. Everyone went out of their way to ensure you were enjoying your stay. Staff very helpful and attentive. Miguel in the restaurants made a special effort to remember us and our drinks orders every night.
We didn't get involved with much of the organised entertainment; however we did take part in some of the beach games and volley ball tournament, which were a laugh. The hotel is fairly small and we subsequently made friends with other guests who'd you then see around the resort.
We had read mixed reviews about the food and drinks but we personally liked both and found they had a good variety. Our favourite was the Barefoot Grill on the beach. The buffet desserts were amazing. We found the drinks strong and enjoyed the 'drinks of the day' which included various frozen daiquiris! Both the pool and beach had servers who would bring you drinks. I initially felt bad not walking up to get my own drinks; however I soon realised if you didn't have a glass or your glass was empty, the staff were determined to get you a drink!
Secrets is part of Now Larimar and Now Garden. You can use the amenities across all three resorts. Secrets is adults only and the closest to the beach (it's restaurants and bars overlook the beach).
The beach is beautiful and again kept spotless. I was worried about the seaweed problem, but I needn't have been. The hotel has a tractor which occasionally collects the seaweed - preventing it from building up/smelling. The tractor isn't noisy or intrusive (we saw it twice during our stay). When we went for a walk along the length of Bavaro beach we realised what a difference this made (as other resorts did have a build up of ugly and smelly seaweed)
We had no problems with people trying to sell us stuff. The hotel has a SeaPros kiosk on the beach who are reponsible for all the included watersports and any additional motorised watersports. The staff weren't pushy or hard salesman. They were knowledgeable and shared good tips regarding snorkelling.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Punta Cana.
We chose Secrets for our 5th Anniversary since we honeymooned at. Secrets resort in Mexico. We had a swim out at this one, which is a must if you go. From the moment you arrive, you are treated like family. Our room was clean and spacious. Every day, our room was restocked with everything we needed. The grounds were kept impeccable. The beach was always well maintained and cleared of seaweed, which was so impressive. There was a lot of choices at the buffet to choose from and the food was good. The Japanese and Italian restaurants were our favourites; we were not impressed with the Seafood restaurant. Our only complaints were that we felt rushed when eating at the sit-down restaurants and the portion sizes were small. A few times, we actually had to order room service because of it.
The drinks at this resort were good and it was the first time where I was served drinks in real sized glasses. They also use premium liquor.
I would like to say that their entertainment team is pretty impressive and work hard to make your vacation enjoyable. Chocolate, Spagettii and J-Lo made our vacation top-notch and a lot of fun.
We are looking forward to another fabulous vacation at Secrets next year, where we can once again be welcomed home! ☀️❤️
Just got back from a wonderful week at Secrets. The resort is spotless. It's so clean that I walked barefoot around the resort all day long. The beach was beautiful and lots of chairs to lay around with enough shade of you want it. The ocean was just ok.. Lots of weed but of course, that is not the resorts fault. We got to go in the ocean everyday. The lazy river is amazing. I would suggest you bring yourself a mattress or some noodles because it's nice just to float in this beautiful pool. Bar service at the beach and around the pools is also perfect. Our suite (garden view, not preferred) was great. Big king size bed, nice balcony with a jacuzzi and a beautiful bathroom with large shower. The staff from entertainment are all just so amazing. The nights shows are great, especially the beach party /fire show... Wow!!! Those dancers are spectacular. Ysis, Kayla and Madonna are just beautiful to look at... So much talent. Also, Shout out to Black Pit and Spaghetti... These guys are hilarious.. Everyone one of them would spend some time just talking to us and making us feel like there friends. We were sad to say goodbye to those fabulous persons. So my only complaint would be the food... We we're at Secrets silversands 3 years ago and the food was so delicious that we were a bit expecting the same... Especially that there the same restaurants. First night, we went to Oceana... Not good at all. Portofino was great the first night but when we went back, we were disappointed. Same thing for Seaside grill. Great the first night but not so good the other day. Hibitsu was really good. Our last night, we tried Capers at Now Garden and there the food was AMAZING. The buffet for breakfast and lunch was really good. The service in every restaurants was A1. My husband and I are wine lovers and the house wine ( especially the white wine) is NOT GOOD... So because we didn't spend money for a expedition or a day at the spa, we bought wine 4 nights... The bottles are not cheap but eh, I needed some good wine. Alfredo, the sommelier was amazing. Because we bought some bottle of wines, he would always dressed a nice table for us with special attention. Lenny, a beautiful, sweet as can be hostess, was also one of our favourite people. So all in all, a wonderful, wonderful vacation. Would I go back? No... But just because there is so many Secrets resorts to experience. ❤️
My experience in Secrets Beach Resort Punta Cana was not as I expected. I reserved this hotel assuming it was a full resort, but truly The Secret Beach Resort is an adult section of the main resort Now Larimar which is located right beside the hotel. I think the promotional information should be reviewed and updated.
The good things: The pools are beautiful, the rooms are great, roomy and very clean. The staff in general are extremely friendly, attentive, respectful people. The entertaining shows at night were good (some of them, not all).
The bad things: The restaurants are very small, and the portions are very small too. Seems to be I was served with a Kid’s meal portion instead of a portion for an adult. That happened in each restaurant I visited. More than one time I had to go to the buffet after the restaurant to feel I ate a proportional meal. The buffet section is also a small room with limited meals offers. To play pool table had to go to the main hotel (Now Larimar). To see an Expedia rep had to go the main hotel. To see the Blue transportation rep had to go the main hotel. The lobby is also a small room with no sufficient seats were to have a good time.
In summary, I’m not planning to come back and will not recommend this “Resort” to anyone.
Be ready for the best! This place will provide exceptional food and service!
Its so quiet and relaxing. If you are able to, book a day at the spa, the couples relaxing massage is the best thing ever!!!!
Make sure you stay at least 3 days on your getaway :)
