How to Get There
We visited Hotel Riu Palace Macao in the middle of August 2018.
Our first trip to the Dominican Republic and would this recommend this hotel to any young/not so young couple or group.
I visited with my girlfriend looking for a weeks relaxing in the sun, we got exactly this!
Three swimming pools to relax by and a beautiful beach. When we were there there was a fair amount of seaweed on the beaches but nature cannot be controlled. The staff worked to clear the beaches at least once a day.
The staff at the hotel were fantastic and very attentive. Food was great with 5 onsite restaurants as well as the well stocked buffet.
The room was clean and cool and it did a job.
Would advise booking an offsite excursion and not using the vendors on the beach. We found the company selling tours from the beach pushy and rude at times (nothing to do with the hotel).
Beautiful country will definitely be returning.
We booked a much need R&R vacation. This was our first time staying at a RIU botel.I read the reviews about the hotel being sold and it's true it's not the newest, but we found that charming. To me where it counts is the rooms and food. The rooms are updated and modern. The food was amazing. There are plenty of things to do. The staff was very attentive and very hard working. Trust me you will never go thirsty. I would definatly recommend.
Don’t ever go to the Riu Macao Casino!!!
I’m telling you It’s terrible.
I just been there literally 30 min ago with my boyfriend to play roulette as two different players, of course. He wanted to bet $10 dollars on red and I said “ oh than let me bet on black” but guess what?! we couldn’t. They DID NOT let us do that.
Why would it matter for them that we are a couple? We are two different people with separate money.
And yeah there were another 2 guys working there just talking about the situation in Spanish and laughing.
They are just about money.
The manager or someone should do something about this.
Anyway, I’ll never go there again.
This hotel met all our expectations apart from the noisy nonsensical entertainment leader. All he can do is holler 'hola' every other word. I think a more rounded approach would be better bearing in mind the mixed nationalities and range of ages staying in the hotel. We should not be expecting 'entertainment' of this level at a Luxury.. Adult only, Sophisticated Hotel to quote your advertising.
It's spoiling my holiday as it's far from the relaxing break I have waited so long for. Saying that I have stayed on many other Caribbean Islands without this happening. You have a lot more guests Riu Palace Macao to consider apart from the 20 or so in the pool bar.
This I can add is the only downside here, as everything else is fine , if only we could turn him down
Me and my boyfriend visited this hotel for 10 nights and returned yesterday. What an amazing place filled with amazing staff. The whole experience for us was brilliant, from welcome drinks on arrival to goodbye drinks on departure.
We stayed in a junior suite and it was comfortable, modern and very clean, maid service in the morning and also turn down service in the evening. Our mini bar was re stocked daily, also our self serve optics.
The 4 restaurants were just delicious, we ate in all of them, the rack of lamb in the Italian is amazing, you have to try it! The buffet was also great, superb choice and live cooking stations. The staff in all of the restaurants were amazing, very efficient, you never waited until your glass was empty to have a top up, all waiters were very attentive.
The pool area was clean and very well kept, you don’t need to take towels as they give you them each morning in replace of a card, these can be swapped as needed during the day, pools were good, the main pool was lovely, sun-loungers in the water, you’ll love lazing back on them.
The pool bar looked fun, although we didn’t use it much, we tended to stay in the palmy area between the pool and the beach. You have the benefit of the pool fun and games and can also see/hear the sea, just without all the traders trying to flog you things at the beach, the beach is public so can’t stop that but the palm tree area has none of that. Special thanks to Emilio who looked after us here during the day, waiter service with drinks topped up throughout the day, we barely had to move! Thanks Emilio. A great guy! Also thanks to Adonis in the bar, another great guy and as all the staff do, really make your stay so enjoyable.
We did plan to do a couple of trips but the hotel was so nice, and where we were in the palm area was peaceful yet not too quiet, we really didn’t feel the need as we had everything we needed right there.
Reception staff were brilliant, shout out to David who made sure everyone was happy, always friendly and chatting as we passed through.
The beach is just beautiful, yes there was seaweed but if you can man up and step over it it won’t cause you a problem, the team clear it up every day but they are fighting a loosing battle, nature is nature. The weather was lovely and hot, we didn’t have rain on 2 days out of the 10 we were there, but this didn’t stop us from having the best time ever.
We enjoyed it so much we WILL be going back next year.
Thanks to all at the Riu Palace Macao. We had a wonderful holiday.
