How to Get There
CHECK IN and RECEPTION
I have stayed in other hotels who are 5* rated and always treated to a welcome drink whilst checking in but not here... also asked reception for some extra coffee and after 2 days got bored of waiting
ROOM and BUILDING
Our room was lovely, we had a room over looking the pool area and we could see the sea. Only thing was the small little ants but we just made sure things were kept clean. The lack of maid service we went 2 days without our room cleaned near the end of the holiday and also the drinks being replenished every 2 days didnt happen so we had to go to reception to ask for more water and coffee- got the water ok but not the coffee and so gave up hope until we saw the man who did the drinks bit for our block.
The room cleanliness was ok on the surface but the base protector sheet could do with a clean!
The general cleanliness of the block looked good on the surface but we noticed a cup on the fire extinguisher which wasn't moved for the whole 2 weeks we were their. I know I'm sounding picky but would have expected better with a 5*
We upgraded to the VIP area and enjoyed the service we got from the pool bar staff as well as the lifeguard and the staff looked after us very well. Only thing to note is that we got speaking to a lot of people who ended up with ear infections. Also the pool could do with a clean rather than just whatever chemicals are used.
We went to one in the day and one at night both was surprisingly good and was lovely to see a variety of ages!!
Very hit and miss. Some nights better than others and ok if you like dancing
GARDEN and BEACH
Well maintained and kept clean the staff work very hard
Main one there was plenty of choice
Steakhouse was good but be mindful of how you like your steak cooked as mine came a bit too rare but they did cook it for longer for me so they are very accommodating
Italian was delicious. Lamb chops to die for! My only grumble was that on one of the nights it should have been open there was a private function but no thought about opening any of the other restaurants.
Japanese my personal opinion was it wasn't good as I found it all very salty.
We didnt try any others. Not sure if it's due to the time of year but the specialist ones arent open every night
Coffee shop is good especially liked the coffee Jamaica and milkshakes.
Is very expensive dont use it go to the duty free shop near the splash pool if you need cigarettes
Our room was clean and well stocked with drinks in the fridge and the optics. Note it had a coffee machine but no tea. We had to turn the air-con off as it was working so well that the room felt too cold. Our view from the balcony looked out onto a sandy square and we were on the 2nd floor. The food served gave us so much choice that we never went hungry and it was available 24hrs a day as the Sports Bar was never shut. You always had seating around the Pool and staff always came around offering to take your orders for drinks. We visited the specialist Krystal Restaurant and it was a pleasure not to eat so much. Room service happened about x3 a day and for us that was too much. The staff are helpful, pleasant and the porter who carried our bags to our room (Gabriel) was such a lovely fellow who really cared out you.
I travelled for my sister's wedding we were a party of 17 made up of youngest 14 and oldest 79. The room was the best I've had, it was huge, the beds and pillows were so comfortable and it was cleaned to a high standard every day with beautiful decorations left nearly every day.
The reception team were the most helpful that I've ever dealt with. On our arrival I had what I thought would be a massive issue. My sister had booked through TUI and i went online and added a booking for my mother in law. I did not realise that there are three Riu Palace hotels, Palace Punta Cana, Palace Macao and this hotel. I booked my mother in law in at the Riu Palace Punta Cana in error. The reception team changed her booking straight away with just a small extra charge, I cant thank them enough!
The buffet was fantastic. We went to three of the speciality restaurants, Italian, Japanese and Steak. The steak was the best of the three
The pool was lovely and the pool bar staff friendly and drinks good and very strong! Bar service round the pool was really good and they were all really friendly.
The shows were good but very similar and to much dancing. There were singers occasionally and the staff would get people up dancing but I feel that they should have more of this.
The beach was beautiful and there were always free sunbeds, no need to get up early to reserve!
Overall it was a great trip, the wedding photgrapher Suri was fantastic and pictures beautiful.
I would definitely recommend the hotel.
