Overview

All-suite megaresort with 15 bars, 15 restaurants and a 8,600-square-foot spa and wellness sanctuary

The Look

The Paradisus Palma Real is all about first impressions. Enter the airy marble and modern art–filled lobby and you’ll be greeted with direct views of Bavaro’s white sand beach. The equally regal Colonial Plaza, a colonnaded atrium lined with the bulk of the hotel’s dining options, opens up onto the vast main pool, dotted with in-water loungers and a swim-up bar. Whimsical chandeliers, oversize chess pieces and glittering bronze accents give the property a sleek, urban vibe more reminiscent of a private club than a large hotel. But on the outside the look is Caribbean through and through, from the palapa-topped pool cabanas to the palm-studded white sand beach.

Bed and Bath

Unlike the marble and gold–bedecked lobby, the guestrooms are subdued and contemporary, with subtle Japanese-inspired touches such as orchid photographs and sliding screen doors. Each of the 596 suites comes equipped with cushy bathrobes, Bienvenue Paris amenities and an in-room minibar stocked with water, juice, soda and beer; Royal Service rooms come with upgraded Thierry Mugler bath products and top-shelf liquor. All rooms — even the 520-square-foot Deluxe Suites, the smallest category — have double whirlpool tubs and balconies or terraces.

Beyond

In addition to the hotel’s five pools (the main pool, a Royal Service pool, the Reserve pool and two kids pools — not to mention seven whirlpools), the main attraction may be the Yhi Spa — that is, if you can pull yourself away from poolside paradise for an hour or two. The 8,600-square-foot space is located at the Reserve, which you can get to with a free eight-minute shuttle ride. It’s well worth the trek: The Zen facilities include thermal circuit baths, a stone foot massage pathway, and multiple treatment rooms, including one with an in-room Jacuzzi and outdoor shower for couples. When it comes to dining and imbibing, the options abound. Of the 15 restaurants and 15 bars, Palazzo (free for Royal Service guests) and Avenue Bar are standouts, and the Illy espresso bar serves to-go sips and bites. There’s also a top-notch gym, a casino, three tennis courts and rotating nightly entertainment at 9:30 p.m. in the concert hall or lobby bar.

In the Area

The resort is set along immaculate Bavaro Beach, so there’s no need to pony up for snorkeling excursions — not when there’s a natural coral reef brimming with colorful aquatic life along the turquoise coast right in front of the hotel. Don’t miss dining at Michelin-starred Martin Berasategui’s molecular gastronomy restaurant, Passion at Paradisus Palma Real. Though not included in the all-inclusive package, this Spanish celebrity chef’s seven-course tasting menu (priced under $100) is a scrumptious bargain. Golf fans will also appreciate the unlimited golf and zero greens fees at the Cocotal Golf & Country Club. If you’re looking for nightlife beyond the hotel grounds, locals love Akon’s Jewel Club.

Not great....

Keeping it short...travelled end of July with my wife and 4 kids (10, 6, 4, 3 months)
No kids amenities and everything at the reserve is being renovated (although still selling the option online and only tell you when you arrive).

Near impossible to get dinner reservations as only 3 al a carte restaurants to choose from, even though online I believe it mentions there are 9. Found ourselves eating at the buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner which we didn’t go on vacation for.

Also no elevators unless you are in the adult only area when which we ended up being moved too. Not sure how I was meant to get to the 3rd floor with a new born and 3 kids.

We came for our Honeymoon for 6 days and had the best time. The rooms, beaches and food were great!

We did the Royal Service and our Butler, Armando was awesome and so helpful. He took great care of us and made the week special.

I high recommend!

Beautiful, relaxing a piece of paradise.

Beautiful hotel. My mom and I went for a massage at YHI Spa I have to say the massage therapist Ysabel Vargas was by far the best I have had. She is visually impaired and must be honest and admit I was so impressed with her service. She is great at her skill and knew what to do and where to relieve tension. If you get a massage at YHI Spa ask for Ysabel you will not be disappointed.
I did royal service at the hotel and Armando was our butler. He did a nice job at making sure we had dinner reservations every night.
Over all it was a great time. Hotel was a bit over crowded but it did not impact our stay or nice time.
