Travelled with TUI on the 22nd October for 14 nights with our 6 and 15 year olds.
Check in at the hotel was quick as we had arranged a private transfer so arrived before the bus, only one other family checking in at the same time. Had to provide a credit/debit card to put a $200 hold deposit on the room, received our bracelets that act as a room key (which is a brilliant idea), we were then taken with our cases straight to the room via a buggy. We had a room on the 3rd floor that looked over the active pool and was right next to the bus stop and social plaza for the evening entertainment, bites and coffee shop which was a perfect location for us. The room had two large double beds, a very large safe (we got 4 iPads, large headphones and several other electrical items in it), it also had a mini bar that only had coke and water in when we arrived but after speaking to the drinks guy, we also got beer everyday.
We spent most of our days around the active pool where we really enjoyed the daily activities which included pool water ballon fight, inflatable gladiator and the foam party. We found the entertainment team one of the best we have ever had on holiday, they were happy with a no if you didn’t want to join in.
We only went to the water park twice, the first time my 6 year old was able to use the smaller slides and the second time the life guard measured her and as she was just slightly over the 1.2 limit he said she was only able to use the large slides and not the smaller ones. As she has only just learnt how to swim I did not feel comfortable with her using the larger slides and also she could not understand how she had been allowed on the smaller slides a day or two before.
We only used the bubble pool at the weekends when the locals arrived apart from a Saturday afternoon for the foam party.
The Selections restaurant was open for breakfast everyday and had a wide selection although the food was not always hot unless you got them to cook you a omelette or pancakes. This restaurant was also open for lunch at the weekends (when the locals are there) other wise you went to the Italian on site or the Italian at the Royalton. I preferred the Italian at Memories at lunch time as you could get them to cook you a fresh pizza. Also Selections at the weekends was horrendously busy, they often asked you to queue for 5-10 minutes for a table. We learned to just walk past the queue and find our own table. It was then a case of having to push and shove a little bit as the locals do not know how to queue up! We found the food in buffet quite repetitive but no different from any other all inclusive and the puddings were rather nice. We also tried to use the al a carte restaurants at the weekends. As long as you got there before 6.30 you were seated and served straight away, any later and there did tend to be a bit of a wait, they gave you a buzzer so you could have a drink and we never waited longer than about 20 minutes. I liked the under the sea restaurant the best as this seemed to feel nicer inside, the food was good in all of them but service in the Italian seemed quite slow.
We visited the Royalton a couple of times to use the beach but always found the sea rather rough. We also had lunch there one day but the staff were not as friendly as at Memories. We went to the beach party on the Friday night, this is worth a look but we didn’t stay very long. We used the Royalton’s pool although you are not supposed to no one said anything to us.
In the evening we tended to watch the entertainment at the social plaza, this was ok, nothing amazing. The best night is when they do the silent disco at the weekends! There is a bar here to and always found it easy to get served.
The only negative was the fact the resort got so busy as the weekends, we found the pool bar hard to get to as the locals sat around it all day shouting there orders at the staff and seemed to be served much quicker that us English, the entertainment team also did most of their talking in the local language at the weekend where as they seemed to speak a lot more in English during the week and the main restaurant was very, very busy. Apart from this there was never any trouble and the locals just seemed out to drink the bar dry and party!
We had a great holiday, met some lovely people and had fantastic weather. As long as the price was right we would definitely go back to Memories!
