How to Get There
We booked this holiday as a last minute trip and after reading the reviews was excited to go. Arrived at the hotel and thought this is amazing the next day it all changed....
We went out for dinner and the only place to eat was the Mexican or the Italian, the main restaurant Selections was closed. The Mexican was OK but not much of a choice. In the morning we went for breakfast, I wanted the pancakes and waited 15 minutes for two pancakes. That was the same every morning. Lunchtime the main restaurant closed and you had to eat from the Mexican or Italian which was not very appetising. The evening again the main restaurant was closed so we had Italian. We wish we had not bothered, again not much choice and what I had was inedible. Full of salt.
We then found out that the main restaurant was closed all week until the Friday evening when.... The resort turned into a holiday camp and the hotel was over run by all the locals. Paying as we were told one dollar a night and five dollars for food. When after we paid a lot of money for an all inclusive holiday.
The main swimming pool was taken over by the new guests and if you wanted a drink at the pool bar you was out of luck, they surrounded the bar and you couldn't get a drink. If you wanted a sun bed, you couldn't leave it because they would take your towels off and put there own on and drop yours on the floor. So if you was in the pool and came back to your sunbed you had lost it.
While we were around the pool on two occasions couples from the guests that came over the weekend were having full on sexual intercourse in the pool in front of children and did not care. One couple was having sex in the Jacuzzi pool. No one from the staff challenge them. Parents were taking children out of the pool and returning to their rooms. A couple even had sex in the wave pool at the water splash park the guards were blowing whistles at them until they stopped but that was it.
The rooms were cleaned daily and are fridge in the room was emptied by the staff helping themselves to the beer. The cleaner liked my lipstick as she or possibly him, had tried it on. The caught the lid on the stick and the barrel of the lipstick was cover in it, so I couldn't use it. I had a new one with me but because they had liked the colour they took my new one. They also liked my perfume and my partner aftershave. As the room smelt of it when we came back. Expensive air freshener.
The towels always had stains on them likewise with the sheets.
One evening we were sitting on the balcony and the maid walked in put the towels on the bed. She then went into the sink, fiddled with my toothbrush etc and then went to the sideboard and was looking at my perfume. She soon put it down when she realized that we were on the balcony.
We went outside the complex to the little shopping center which is just outside the gate. Bad mistake. As soon as as we walked out we was offered drugs... Heroin, Cocaine, weed. My partner was even offered a prostitute.
The complex has four hotels, Grand memories, Grand memories splash, The Hideaway, and the Royalton.
We went down to the Royalton and went to the Martini bar, and got a drink. When we went back to get another we was told you are grand memories guests they have beer in your hotel go and get it there. Rude.
We went into the Nightclub, my partner went in first while I went to the toilet, when I came back he had a few girls around him and a young fella, I didn't think to much of it until he said he had been offered a girl or he could pick one to join him for the night and he could take her back to his room. We were out there celebrating our engagement.
When we came out one of the guests saw that I was upset and my partner was angry and asked what had happened and we told him he said he had been phoned by room service and offered the same service because he was there on his own.
We complained to the rep and had a meeting with her the next day along with two other families, and there was other families and couples waiting to complain. As we were talking to her with another family in the Royalton we tried to get a drink from the bar in the reception area and was refused, again because we were Grand memories guests the rep witnessed this and told the staff we could have a drink, after 10 minutes he served us all reluctantly.
She did try and sort things out and got us upgraded to Diamond club but it didn't make much of a difference. We also had to sign a disclaimer to say that we would not tell anyone else about the problems we were having. That just goes to show what problems they are having.
The paradise beach was a laugh. Filthy, cramped, broken glass.
We were there for two weeks and we did try and change hotels but couldn't.
The beans cafe, is were you can get coffee and cakes, I had just walked out when a lot of the local people walked in I could hear them shouting and then the manager a lady went in. She shouldn't have because as I heard later on as everyone was talking about it that one of them grabbed something and hit her knocking two teeth out.
I have been to the Dominican Republic before and it was heaven but this was a nightmare.
Would I go back... no not even if it was free.
This was our first holiday in Dominican Republic and we absolutely loved it!
Beautiful, clean beaches, amazing views! The intensy of the colours of the sea and sand were just incredible! A bit further from the hotel, there was a bit of sea weed but nothing major!
most of the hotel staff were friendly, lovely food, nice, chilling atmosphere.
There is a waterpark with slides where we had lot of fun! You can also enjoy free kayaking. 3 restaurants Mexican, Italian, seafood and also coffee bar/snack bar. At the bar they make the most beautiful, fresh drinks!
We could also use the facility of the next door Royalton hotel which was nice.
The evening entertainments were amazing! That was a great holiday, we had a really nice time! Recommend for everybody! :)
