How to Get There
Had the best time with family at this resort. The food was very good for AI including the restaurants. The people are super friendly and the resort is beautiful and spotless.
They work very hard to entertain the guests and wonderful night shows. Few shout outs to the animation team who work super hard entertaining folks; Junior is the best, johnny bravo, Coco Cola, Elaine and her great Zumba class, all team members I forgot I apologize. Miriam at check in was wonderful and gave us a quiet room. The piano player in the lobby was wonderful and so talented! Loved listening to him . Trinidad at breakfast was wonderful . Daniel at beach restaurant and Fernando was great serving us drinks at the beach.
Will be back next year!!
My wife, our 9 month-old son, and I visited this amazing property for our 3rd wedding anniversary during the last week of May. From the very moment we arrived, we were greeted with a warm smile and cool refreshing face towels to fight the heat. Belnin, at the front desk, took very good care of us during check-in and check-out. With a very friendly attitude, he received us and checked us into a very nice suite with a pool view. The facilities were spectacular starting from the lobby/reception area all the way to the end were the beach is located.
We spent most of our time at the beautiful pool (located in-front of our suite). We also visited the kids' pool located by the lobby called "Splash Kids". The rest of the time we spent it either at the beach or at the buffet restaurants located by the lobby and "Hispaniola" by the beach (serving breakfast as well as snacks in the interval between lunch and dinner time). The wonderful thing is that there is always somewhere open serving food at all times. There are also specialty a la carte restaurants including a steakhouse, seafood, Mexican and Dominican cuisine. I want to give special thanks to Oneidy at "Hispaniola Restaurant". Every time we visited, she made sure we were happy, comfortable and was very friendly to us, especially to our little boy whom developed a friendship with her during our stay.
The suite itself was amazing. We had a Junior Suite with Jacuzzi. It included a private balcony, awesome Jacuzzi and minibar that's restocked daily. The bed was king size and it was pretty comfortable for all of us (including our baby). They acknowledged our anniversary by welcoming us with a bottle of champagne and amazing towels and flowers decoration.
We also visited the theater at night for the live entertainment; the shows were pretty fun. All the bars and their service were amazing. The delicious cocktails definitely add to the overall experience this property offers. I would like to give special thanks to the bartenders at the pool bar. Henry was very interactive, charismatic, fun and always found a way to make us laugh and enjoy the day. Elia Reye was also great and service-oriented.
I would not have enough space to speak about all the wonderful staff and our great stay. However, this was not a 5 star review because of what we saw at the beach. We could not get in the beach because it appeared to be poorly maintain, full of seaweed and an unpleasant smell. It is a shame that this beautiful property with amazing staff and amenities would not give the beach the proper maintenance treatment needed. Many people dream to visit beautify Punta Cana just because of the beautiful beaches and warm water. A dirty beach can definitely be a major disappointment for many.
Our overall experience was wonderful and I would definitely recommend this property to anyone. Hopefully this review can ignite motivation to improve the beach's cleanliness.
Thank you Majestic Colonial. We hope to visit you guys again!
My husband and I finished off the second half of our trip to Punta Cana at The Majestic Colonial in the adults only section (first half was at The Level at Melia Caribe Tropical - I reviewed that hotel as well). The room was very pretty and we had an ocean view. The patio had a table and chairs, as well as loungers and a jetted tub outside.
The hotel had a nice, large pool, but the pool at the adult section was very small and shallow. The adult pool had a lot of teens and children so we spent most of our time in the adult area or on the adult beach. The beach was beautiful, but we had heard from staff at the Melia that this season was bad for seaweed this year and so we didn't swim in the ocean as much as we normally would have, but they did their best to clean the seaweed (there was still a lot). The food was very good and we liked that there was always fresh options to choose from, and you did not have to make reservations anywhere. However, there wasn't a huge amount of restaurants so just be aware of that if you are going to stay at this resort for a longer period of time.
The staff was great at this hotel, much friendlier than other places we have stayed in DR, and they always asked if there was anything they could do for us and were happy to engage in conversation. There was plenty of areas to find chairs, whether on the beach or near the pool and it was a resort where you didn't have to get up extremely early to find a good spot to sit. Marisol and Yeri at the buffet were our favorite servers, they took time to chat with us each day and would wave and come over to chat even when we were not sitting in their section! On the adult beach, Wilson and Maria were our favorite bartenders at the beach bar and we looked forward to laughing and chatting with them (they hugged us goodbye and asked when we were coming back!). All in all we really liked this hotel.
The only downside, in my opinion was, the adults only section is really small and next to the main hotel, so you will see children...the main hotel pool was large with all the activities, and again, lots of kids, people walking by your room with kids, and there is no one watching the roped off adult beach so you guessed it, people would take their toddlers and baby carriages into the adult section of the beach because it was more quiet. I like children but choose to not vacation with them so if you are looking for a true adult only, book a hotel that is adult only. Otherwise, it was great and I would absolutely recommend this hotel to others!
My fiancé and I stayed a week on the Colonial Club side with a swim up room. Our butler David was so nice and even though we really didn’t need much from him, he left us a nice surprise the night before we left as well as informing the restaurant it was our anniversary.
The room was very spacious and clean. Only complaint I would give is that the room didn’t get very cold at night. The thermostat only would go to 20.5C (68*F). We like to sleep in a colder room so we wished it could have been adjusted lower.
There was plenty of foods to choose from at the buffets and restaurants. We aren’t picky eaters and are always open to trying new things. We loved our little snack area on the club side. Great options between meals. Our favorite was the Japanese restaurant. The sushi and meal was delicious and filing and our chef Pedro was fun and entertaining.
The staff at this resort are the nicest and go out of their way to get whatever you need. Even the smallest tips are greatly appreciated by the staff as they work hard. No matter who you walk by they always say hello. Rafael and Kathryn at the club swim up bar make the best drinks and very friendly. Wilson on the beach was also great and remembers you when you come to the beach everyday.
The beach was beautiful and plenty of shaded spots to relax. We really enjoyed the Bali beds. There was a lot of seaweed in the water which I heard happens at this time of year. Water was still refreshing and nice.
We were sad to leave but can’t wait to return again.
A group of 7 of us travelled to the Majestic Colonial for a week from June 7-14. This was our first time at the resort since the renovations. But because it was our fourth time, we hoped we would get some type of upgrade. We were told it was an extra $40 USD per person per night for the Colonial Club upgrade, which we did not want to pay. Alfredo worked with us and was very patient and understanding. He got us the free upgrade to the colonial club. He had excellent customer service, he was very kind and sweet, which is why we did give him a tip after we received the upgrade.
We were really impressed with the Colonial Club rooms. The renovations to the rooms are a great addition to the hotel. However, the air-conditioning in the rooms is a little odd. It gets cold but still feels humid and damp, which is uncomfortable for sleeping. Also, for the first few nights of our stay, we were next to a group of loud, drunk and obnoxious teenagers. We were woken up multiple times, sometimes at 4 a.m. because of how loud they were. One morning i woke up to 3 guys sleeping on the floor outside my room, which was totally unacceptable...where is security? I did call the front desk and they rectified the situation quickly.
The Colonial Club Pool was kind of small and the swim up bar area was loud with drunk people. If you want tranquility, go to the main pool area in a quiet section. The colonial club lounge was very useful if you wanted to sit in an air conditioned area, while having some snacks and drinks. 5 of us had Joan as our butler and the other two had Jovanny. Joan was nice but did not do much for us. He would walk by us and not even acknowledge us. We would see many butlers searching the beach looking for guests and Joan never came looking for us. Jovanny was my daughter's butler and he did more for us than Joan did. Everyday he would touch base with them and even ask if we needed anything. He spoke really good English because he previously lived in New York. Jovanny's service was the best in the hotel. He was a genuinely nice guy. He made reservations for them, surprised them with chocolate covered strawberries, Majestic t-shirts, and a bottle of wine on the last night. Anyone who stays in the Colonial Club section i highly suggest you request Jovanny...he is the best. We will be requesting him on our next visit.
The grounds are fabulous. Lots of chairs on the beach. Not the hotel's fault but there was a ton of seaweed. They had machines to remove it but just couldn't keep up. The colonial part of the beach wasn't too bad in terms of seaweed compared to other hotels if you walked further down. The vendors on the beach are kind of annoying. We were constantly being asked if we want to buy ankle bracelets, cigars, sunglasses....it gets a bit much. We want to relax and not be hassled while sitting on the beach.
The animation team was great. We played the games all week on the beach. Ramon would come talk to us everyday and check in on us. Johnny Bravo was fun as well. On the other hand, Yindia would come up to us on the beach and ask very rudely for our food...saying gimmie one, then asking us to write a good review for her when we barely even spoke to her. We thought that was a little rude and that's not a way to get a good review from someone.
The service in the restaurants was great. Luciano in the lunch beach buffet was amazing. He had our table ready for us everyday. He worked so hard and was moving so quick. It's so sad to see that most people do not give tips when these people are working so hard and rely on the tips. We tipped all the time and they really appreciate it. No complaints about the food or service. It was great all around.
The casino on the resort is fun. It is hot in there when there are a lot of people. At one point we had to go outside because it was too hot. The casino is kind of small, considering it is a shared facility for the Majestics.
One night we wanted to take a cab over to the Hard Rock for the Casino. There are no signs as to the price the cabs are, meaning that prices can just be made up. The bell boy told us $15 one way, front desk told us $17, driver told us $24.... There’s no consistency. Also, no where does it say up to 4 people is $15, and anyone after is an additional cost. We saw 2 people get into a van for $15 for the same exact ride we wanted to do but with a few more people....and were charged $24...the van is going there regardless of how many people are in the car... so paying $24 USD for a 5 minute ONE WAY cab ride is absurd....not to mention they tried to charge us even more on the way back.
Overall, we highly recommend this resort. We love it, which is why we keep returning. Obviously it's not perfect, but you need to overlook the small things. We've been to many resorts in Punta Cana and this is by far our favourite. We look forward to our next vacation at the Majestic Colonial!
