How to Get There
If you are 21 and love a Carnival Cruise - this place is for you. I’m not even going to comment on the complete inability to relax anywhere on the property, but if that’s what you are looking to do - don’t come here.
I’m not a big “reviewer” but can’t let this one go. Arriving here two days ago for a friend’s birthday celebration, we were told our room wasn’t ready (it was 3:30pm). We specifically booked in the Diamond Club (building 1) as we wanted to ensure that the rooms were nice with the included amenities that were promised. When we finally got to our room, it was very hot and smelly. I was told the AC would kick in within a few minutes. By 8:30 still no AC and the room smelled of Mold so badly that we didn’t even put out clothes in the drawers or closet. After several attempts at addressing this, we were finally moved to a new room at 11:30pm. AC was better but still the smell of Mold. Since then the toilets have stopped up twice and there is constant hammering in the room next door - as it is under construction.
THE FOOD - probably the most consistently terrible food I’ve ever had! Not only is the food at any of the pool grills bad, but the steak restaurant and buffet breakfast was approaching inedible. To top this, at an attempt to find something basic and easy / I tried the Diamond Club Lounge to see 2 Roaches making their way around the pastries that were set out.
I really wish I could be making this up or exaggerating - but sadly I am not.
I have two more days here and am desperately trying to find something appealing and to get me through this, but this “one for the team” vacation and experience is definitely the worst I’ve ever had.
I can’t imagine that this place has the amount of positive reviews, and can give credibility to Trip Advisor’s warning that somehow the reviews are being Skewed.
- The 4 restaurant for dinner are ok but the buffet are excellent
- we love the tropical fruits especially coco and sugar cane drinks
- the fitness program are excellent, they offer classes for everybody
through out the day
We love yoga, aqua Zumba, kick boxing, boot camp classes; The fitness staffs
are very friendly , all certified and very accommodated, especially Fabio, Alexandra and Carlos
- many enttertainments for each night.
Me and my partner came here for 2 weeks at the end of oct 17 into start of nov, very hot but pretty windy, had 1 day of rain, only just getting round to reviewing though. We were given cocktails on arrival and a hot towel and staff were nice and friendly. We had a nice time here but as we'd previously been to hideaway at Royalton in Mexico the year before this hotel just didn't live up to their standards unfortunately. We had a ground floor room, we walked in and on inspection of the room the net curtain had a big hole in, and on a few occasions there were cockroaches on the room. ( I know they can't really help that)
The hotel grounds and pool are really nice, we're more beach people so thats where we spent most of our time, but the music from the pool was soo loud that sometimes you couldn't really relax with music blastin in the background ( i feel sorry for people getting married here as they still had in on then straight after a wedding) one good thing though was the animation team didn't pester you if you said no.
We ate in the a la carte restaurants as they were the safe bet as the one night we ate from the buffet my partner was ill the next 2 days and the only different foods we had eaten between us was rice and i was fine ( was probably re-heated and left out too long) all a la carte places had good food though. Room service was good and included so we had breakfast in the room one morning. When the buffet is closed in the morning the only other place to eat was the coffee shop which had cake and donuts and sandwiches. The burgers from the burger stand were good and cooked fresh. At the pool snack bar there was a few choices, they wouldn't do a wrap without mayo though. We accidentally had a snack from the diamond beach bar and the food was better there and more frequently coming round to get you another drink.
The mermaid party was good, they had music on and a violinist. There was a few nights of entertainment but most of that was just music blasting. I think maybe we were the wrong age range for this hotel or just too old before our time haha (26 & 32)
There wasn't much to do outside of the hotel and if you were going to do anything the tui rep wanted your money there and then :-/ and the hotel staff were always going on about discounts but you have to go and listen to the time share thing (no thanks) and they were both really expensive, so we didn't do any.
I'd say if this is your first time at a Royalton hotel you'll love it and if it's your 1st long haul holiday, if not go to Mexico and stay at the Royalton there as it was so much better.
I stayed at CHIC in Punta Cana for 6 nights. The best thing about my experience was definitely the numerous fitness programs available, which are all free and new. They just started the fitness classes recently. During my time, I participated in sunset yoga, beach soccer, TRX, kickboxing classes, aqua zumba, and many more! The fitness instructors including Favio and Alexander the machine are very outgoing, energetic, and amazing to work with. The food quality at the a la carte restaurants were decent, but the buffet was the best in my personal opinion. Beautiful location, great entertainment every night, and would definitely recommend.
As others have mentioned, rooms are a bit run down, dealt with several things being broken, leaks, AC didn't work properly etc... There is loud music pounding here from morning to late night (which you can hear up to a KM away on the beach even), and CONSTANT pressuring by vendors on the beach and around the pools. I prefer a quieter atmosphere myself, but if you 're looking to party this is the place. Very "sexy" vibe too, I imagine young couples or singles would have a blast here.
A few standout staff members:
Samuel our butler was EXCELLENT. He helped translate on several occasions and found me every day to check in with me, make reservations, even arranged for special lunches of *delicious* Dominican food (the best food we ate this week to be honest).
William who tended our mini-bar quickly caught on that we're not big drinkers, provided tons of bottled water, soda and Nespresso pods for us which was really nice.
Jomar at Diamond Club Beach bar: His personality was an absolute delight every day. We bonded over our love for Harry Potter and his dream to travel to Alaska. Seriously great guy!
