How to Get There
Resort was clean, well cared for. Staff were super friendly/pleasant. Room was clean, beds were comfortable. Everything worked as expected...plenty of running water (hot/cold), air conditioning was perfect. Food was great at buffets and restaurants. Spent most of the time at the pool, as the beach was very unpleasant. The seaweed cooking in the sun smelled horrible. The water at the beach was brown and full of seaweed. There was a tiny area of ocean you could walk to on a very narrow path, far out from the beach, where the water was clear and deep.
In total we were a group of 17 people. The nature of the resort was amazing, very beautiful and so was the beach. However the customer service was the worst we have all experienced in our lives. We were so disappointed and we would never come back. When we arrived at the hotel around 15:30pm local time at the reception of Catalonia Punta Cana told us that they are overbooked and they will move us for two days at Catalonia Royal Bavaro. They moved all 17 of us to Royal Bavaro. At the reception of Royal Bavaro they told us that none of the rooms are ready even that check in is at 15:00pm. They started to give us one by one of the rooms. The last room they gave us at 20:00pm. We had to call the manager and speak with him. Catalonia Royal Bavaro waisted so much of our time on our first day. After travelling thousands of miles from Europe to get to Punta Cana we were treated not like customers. The Royal Bavaro manager told us that they didn't know until very last they will be receiving rooms from Catalonia Punta Cana and it is not their fault. Even if you complain to the Royal Bavaro staff for them doesn't matter. They simply do not care. Anyway we waited and finally got our final room. The rooms in the Royal Bavaro were actually a down grade when comparing to the rooms we received in Catalonia Punta Cana. After 2 days of stay we had to move back to the other side of the hotel. We checked out at 10:30am and went to Catalonia Punta Cana from the Royal Bavaro. We spoke to the manager there and we were told the rooms will be ready for checking at 15:00pm. As you can guess what happened we received all of the rooms at once at around 18:00pm. Again 3 hours after the normal checking time. In total the reception staff waisted 2 of our days because they couldn't get the rooms on time. While moving our luggage they the staff who was responsible of transporting it lost one of the luggages, so after a whole day of waiting to get our rooms when we realised that one of our group members luggage was lost we had to walk back to the reception and find it. We found it and nobody even asked us if we want to be driven back to the villas with one of the golf cars.
We were in villa 7,5,9. When we arrived at the rooms the music from the Perl Beach Club was so loud that we you could here in the rooms. I called the reception and nobody picked up. I had to walk with my mum from villa 7 and speak with the manager at this time called Quico. He made a couple of calls and the music stoped. My sisters room 0925 wasn't able to lock, meaning that their they couldn't lock their room so we called the reception they said that they will send somebody, we went for a dinner and came back and the door wasn't fixed. You could walk in their room without using the key because it wasn't locking. On the next day in the morning we went back to the reception spoke with them and again they said we will send somebody to fix it immediately. When we came back from the beach again the problem wasn't fixed. At the end we went to the reception and told them we will call the Spanish office so they can speak to them and fix the problems. I guess the reception staff felt threatened and the reception manager send somebody to fix it immediately. It took them 2 days ti fix the door handle, because the door wasn't able to be locked for that 2 days somebody walked in the room and just took 2 pairs of sunglasses left at their coffee table. We didn't even bother to complain again because at this resort nobody pays you attention to the problems. In Catalonia Punta Cana resort every time we went to ask for something or to speak with the reception we kept on hearing 5 minutes and we will help you. The 5 minutes turned into 10 and then it takes ages. Everything it is so slow in this resort.
We went to a la carte restaurants. The Italian restaurants you made it look so exclusive and in fact we waited to get for a table more than 2 hours. The hostess was telling us we are booked I am sorry. We are busy. When we went inside the restaurant was empty. I guess the staff in the a la carte restaurants are just lazy. We ordered our food and it literally took the chefs hours to cook some pasta. At the end 5 people of our group left the tables and went to eat in the buffet restaurant. The staff of this hotel are so slow and rude that I do not have words to describe how disappointed I am that we booked you resort. The Thalassa restaurant was awful went we asked if we can have a table for 17 a waiter told us that they do not move their tables and made us to separate. The service in the Italian restaurant and Thalassa was horrible. What surprised us that they wouldn't even bother to meet your expectations. If they bring you food and drinks you would be even lucky. You would order drinks and the waiters would forget you. The worst thing was when we ordered deserts in Thalassa and the waiter forgot to tell the kitchen. We waited for 10 mins asked where our deserts were and he said that he forgot to order them. Then we got up and left without having a desert. We went to the Caribbean restaurant two nights in a row and this was the only restaurant that has nice and polite staff. There is a waiter there called Pedro who was helpful nice. He would automatically bring us drinks and the service and the food in the Caribbean was the best.
Overall what can I say a group of 17 people was treated poorly by your hotel staff. For sure we will never visit our stay in your other hotels from the Chain. We we are so disappointed I cannot stress how bad is the service. For sure we will tell our friends and family to never stay in your hotels as you wouldn't be treated as a guest. Everything in this hotel was done very slowly. They wouldn't be even nice to us when we tipped them with dollars. This just speaks for itself. In total we had 2 days waisted by moving us from one side of the hotel to another. Your staff couldn't be bothered to fix one of our rooms door handles so anybody could just walk in the room. The staff in the Italian and Thalassa restaurant were so slow and rude. The food in the Italian restaurant was awful. The waiters forget your drinks your food. Overall I think you do get how we felt and feel after this holiday. I can just sum it up as DISAPPOINTED. I think you should pay serious attention to the service in this hotel. Definitely employees training program should be installed in this hotel. We spoke to a group of Americans and they shared the same opinion like us. They were treated poorly as well. I hope you do sort out the service in Punta Cana resort otherwise you will lose customers not only that they wouldn't come back to Catalonia Punta Cana but also they wouldn't stay in your other hotels around the world because of the experience they had in Punta Cana.

Beach and grounds fantastic never seen so many coconut trees in one place and have done several other islands over the yrs.
Bar staff hit and miss some just ignore us party of 6 lobby bar a joke! 60% of the time beer was flat rum vodka mixers discussing, dry time by all. No ware to get away from humidity ceiling fans only Crap!!
Food good quality but never changed over the 14 nights we there table service rubbish most days got napkins given after meal finished, just not enough staff.
Shops on site good value staff there and in coffee cafe great. Venders allowed in wk ends very pushy and in ya face to get to buffet you ran the gantlet. Staff under paid and over worked far to many guests ques 30 40 a time for evening buffets by time u got table we we're a bunch of wet rags. Rubbish!!
Just returned from 2 weeks at this hotel. I was very nervous after reading some of the reviews but shouldn’t have worried this is a fantastic hotel with friendly staff who work so very hard. The grounds of the hotel are stunning. The beach is lovely with plenty of sun beds and umbrellas. There was a seaweed problem when we were there but we still used the beach and went back to the pool to swim. Food was lovely and plenty of choice. There are 4 themed restaurants which you can visit once during the week. We loved the Italian and the Japanese restauarants, this mixed things up so we didn’t get bored visiting the buffet. At lunch we used the beach restaurant which again had plenty of choice. Staff were friendly never had a problem getting served but the language barrier was sometimes a problem as we didn’t speak Spanish. We had two rooms which were both spacious and kept lovely and clean, the fridge was restocked daily with water, soft drinks and beer. We did have a problem with a slight water leak from the ceiling and the safe in one of the rooms. Both problems were fixed quickly. There are a few shops which are lovely and a coffee house again lovely. We loved our time at the Catalonia Bavaro, so much so we have booked again. I would highly recommend this lovely hotel.
