How to Get There
We initially booked here for a couple of days to see how it was but after the first day we booked for a further 10. I was traveling with my wife and another couple. The hotel was great and the rooms were even better, I especially loved the hot tub in the room. There’s many facilities in the hotel, volleyball was fantastic! My wife especially loved the water aerobics :) there’s so many different bars and restaurants you’re spoilt for choice.
17 of us spent about a week each at this resort for my son's wedding. Some bumps along the way, but overall a very good experience! Some of the many highlights of this trip include the Platinum Club. My room was just across from the club where we met up with Sarah and Louis every morning where they served us wonderful coffee, Bloody Mary's, and made our reservations for the evening. I would highly recommend upgrading WHEN YOU BOOK to the Platinum Club level as it will more than likely cost more to do so when you arrive ($55 US/day on sight). Although other travelers told us that they have received many more club-level benefits in other locations, at The Bavaro Princess, Platinum gets you all check in/out plus concierge on site at the Platinum Club, rooms that are closer to the beach, exclusive beach with bar service, additional mini-bar items, and all top shelf drinks. We also used the concierge service for reservations to all but one onsite restaurants, which were the best we have had when traveling to an "All-Inclusive" resort! I highly recommend Gaucho Steak house - we followed the dress rules (others did not...) and the food and service were amazing! We also spent two evenings in the Japanese restaurant and had a wonderful time with Diego, our chef. Our children's wedding dinner was at the Bella Italian, and after a couple of miscommunications with the seating person, we had a wonderful meal that included a chocolate truffle that I could write a song about, plus wedding cake, a surprise birthday cake and mariachi music for one of our party members.
All things have goods and not so goods, and here as well; our daughter and her families' room reservation was not received by the resort, despite she and I booking our trips with the same travel agent at the same time - they were finally settled into a room that could accommodate all four of them (Rm 666!) but they all had to sleep in the same room the first night as there did not seem to be beds available for the children. The beds came the next day, but no pillows for them - needless to say, my daughter's trip was not the best.e
The beds are extremely hard (even for me, as I have a hard bed at home), so be prepared for that. The bathroom's walk-in shower was perfect for me (limp.leg numbness and pain awaiting spine surgery), and I have to admit I brought all of the shampoos and body washes home with me as they feel so wonderful on the skin and smell heavenly! Jenys kept my room spotless the entire trip, and it didn't take long to get used to the turn-down service every night.
Also, on weekends especially, trolley service is very full so you need to either plan on walking to your restaurant, or try to leave at least 30-45 minutes early. We learned quick to book dinners right at 6:00 so to be the first ones in the door.
The free lobster dinner was really not worth the 45 minutes we waited past our reservation time, plus we had to walk all the way up to the main lobby area where that restaurant is located because of the full trolleys.
Be VERY SPECIFIC when booking weddings at this location! My new daughter in law was somewhat disappointed in how their wedding was managed - they had also been told by our travel agent that they more than likely would be upgraded to Platinum because of the extra rooms that were booked to their wedding, but they would not consider it, and the fee would have cost them $600 extra. I think if they had booked the Platinum right away when they booked the trip it may have been a better experience, but really cannot be sure. Their wedding was beautiful despite the heat and humidity at 1:00 in the afternoon, but the location was very nice, and we saw at least four other wedding take place at that same location over the week.
We met many visitors who were on their 2nd, 5th, 10th trip to this resort, and I can definitely see why! We were cared for with personal touches, the rooms were spotless at all times, and we even got a few hugs from the Platinum staff we had come to know when it was time to go - I will definitely be back - thanks again to Sarah, Anna, Louis, Juan, Jenys, Diego, and Claudio for taking such good care of us!
My partner and I have just got back from Bavaro princess hotel, we stayed here for 11nights. We organised our holiday through TUI - who were excellant. The hotel is good, it did get busy by the end of the holiday. The rooms are a good size and nideal for a family as well as a couple. They could do with a little updating but overall very good. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds, with beautiful peacocks and flamingos. It is very well looked after. In my honest opinion the only thing that lets this hotel down is the food. Even though there are different restaurants and buffets to chose from, the food isn’t of the highest standard. The breakfast and lunch is great, but dinner isn’t the best! But overall a good holiday and in a lovely friendly hotel!
Room was 306 - close to pool and beach. We felt the food was pretty good - bartenders were friendly at the pool and beach. Grounds were nice. Daniel at check-in was very friendly and happy.
Only complaints would be that we had a ground floor unit and occasionally toilet would backup into the sauna tub. Would recommend asking for an upstairs unit next time. And the room had a very musty smell but we got used to it.
Overall a nice stay though!
Had high hopes this would be a 5 Star review however I can only give it a 3 in all fairness.
Many travelers commented on restaurants being so-so, we agree with others that the breakfast buffet was always perfect with made to order eggs, omelets and many options available. The servers are all friendly and they remembered us each morning with coffee preferences and Mimosas😄
We loved lunches at McPrincess and the lunch buffet was also very good! The beachside bar was terrific and each day we were greeted with big smiles by our friends Carlos and Ramon...great service!!
We tried all of the included restaurants for dinner and enjoyed all but especially loved Chopin - made to order pasta and a full buffet of other foods including fresh salads!
Now, onto the room...we had a bungalow suite no platinum upgrade for us which I think is just fine...Our first room had no working phone so when we wanted to call for room service we were out of luck...we reported the issue to at least 4 different staff members and finally got attention when we went to the Front Desk on our second afternoon...we moved into a new room with working phone and closer to beach and main pool!
One thing not mentioned in other reviews, is that the mini-bar refrigerators in either of our rooms were not really cold at all. They were basically a storage cabinet for the beverages but don’t expect to have a frosty cold beer when you return to your room!
We enjoyed great room service (once we had a working phone) from Victor who delivered a fresh bucket of ice to us each evening (so we could make our own frosty cold drinks!)
Beach- the entire Beach was covered in seaweed, my heart ached for the workers who tried in vain each morning to clean up...bags and bags being removed each day😞. No fault of the resort but it was not the most beautiful beach and I wonder if this is just a seasonal issue (if so, don’t visit this time of year) I’m sure without the seaweed, it would be an absolutely beautiful beach!
Pesky vendors- not sure why they are allowed to bother folks on the beach sitting under cabanas or even at the resort pool. There should be a way for guests to Opt out...maybe the hired Police/security guards need to stop this from happening. I don’t mind saying no thanks but it gets very annoying when trying to relax to have these folks constantly peddling things and it never stops!!! I snapped a photo of a guard taking $$ from these folks, so maybe that’s why they are allowed to bother guests?
