How to Get There
We (6 of us) booked this trip to get out of the frozen tundra we call Minnesota. What a fantastic experience! My husband & I had been to DR a couple years back at a different resort and were a little nervous about coming back. Our last trip was… well, let's just say 7 of the 8 of us on that trip must have gotten a hold of some bad water somewhere. Anyhoo - much to our pleasant surprise BBB was fantastic!!!! We stayed on the adult-only side, but visited the Palace (family side) multiple times for restaurants, the casino and shopping. The beach was gorgeous, the view stunning and the grounds were beautiful and very well-kept.
The rooms were clean and large - we booked a room with a view of the ocean and were very happy with it. We booked dinners at Chez Gourmet, Santa Fe Steakhouse, Kyoto, Holo 19, La Brisa and Coral. Our favorites by FAR were Chez Gourmet & the steakhouse. The buffets were ok, but it was the same food every day, so got a little monotonous. The staff were all fantastic and went out of their way to make us happy.
We had fantastic bartenders, but far & away our favorites were Juan & Marino! They were working most of the days we were there and always had a new fantastic cocktail for us to try! We especially loved the mini beers & Brugal cokes. They were fun and hard-working and made our stay memorable! We are looking forward to another trip to BBB mainly because of them!
On check in was taken to the premium lounge & given my bracelet for premium level. All amenities excellent, fantastic choice of food & drinks. Staff just so sweet & pleasant all the time. Room very good, bathroom needs a little upgrade. Lots to do in hotel & beyond with wristband all is free. Chez gourmet has the most wonderful chateaubriand!
We chose this resort for the Adults Only All Inclusive. When we arrived ( 4 people) the hotel booked 2 rooms in 2 different buildings even though it was booked months ago. The BEST thing @ this resort is the beach. We booked in the Premium level oceanfront. Awesome view... BUT rooms are very outdated tub & toilet in the same room extremely small & OLD. Along with NO exhaust fan.The room was large but needed better lighting and had a moldy smell. Every morning we heard the beach being cleaned. And on some mornings the workers were chopping the bushes & Talked VERY loud @ 6:30 AM.
The language barrier was a huge issue made it difficult to communicate with workers. The Entertainment staff was good. The nightly shows were very good. Resort should give or post daily things to do via a newsletter placed in the rooms the nigh before. The pool was large BUT needs a swim up bar. On the beach it would be nice as a premium room person they should provide beach food & drink servers. Since we had to leave the beach & go to the pool/beach bar which was very crowded every time we went. to get a drink.
The FOOD was just average. The buffet in AM needs to get better french toast & pancakes. We ended up eating omelettes everyday was the best & freshest choice. The premium level restaurants you could eat @ were very good for the most part. BUT portions are very small. The night we ate @ hibachi the cook was very disappointing. I had emailed the hotel prior to our visit to set up all premium restaurants this is the BEST thing to do. Transportation was great. The only thing about the restaurants is Families also eat @ these restaurants which we were very surprised since we chose the ADULTS ONLY for a reason.
So overall if you want a middle of the road resort it will be fine.
It would be nice to have ! restaurant besides a buffet for breakfast & lunch just to sit down & be served.
the place is great, just don't go during spring break. not if your expecting a nice quiet time. The college kids took the place over. I never would have thought that many kids could afford a place like this or even had passports. Boy, was I mistaken. But thats my fault. If it weren't for that, I loved the place, excactly what I had hoped for, minus the spring breakers.
We had a great week at the Barcelo Bavaro Beach Resort. Absolutely no complaints regarding food, room, staff - all were awesome. What wasn’t awesome were the large groups of unruly, loud, obnoxious, drunk US spring break college students who arrived mid-week. Why they would choose a mostly middle age couples resort is beyond me.
Would absolutely return to this resort but would make sure to book when it is NOT during spring break.
