Great week!

Beautiful beaches
Wonderful staff (for the most part)
Check in/out were simple/easy
Rodeo was our favorite restaurant (would eat there every night if it was possible)
Other restaurants were decent
Rooms very large were pretty clean (was given dirty bottles of shampoo, conditioner, etc)
Service was pretty quick in the restaurants/bars
Know a little Spanish before you go, most of the staff spoke only Spanish, but still very helpful
We would definitely go back if the chance comes up!

Garden rooms very basic and certain area of hotel need upgrading but beautiful location and hotel staff lovely, entrainment very good and had good night time entertainment as well, food in themed restaurants very good and going this time of year there is a lovely breeze from the sea

Style over substinance, DO NOT GO HERE
Reviewed 1 week ago

The stay started off terrible, I had read reviews about the "guys in white shirts" who are pushy and totally imorral salesman, the pretend they are the hotels concierge service which is a total lie, if you fall into their trap your taken on long tour of the complex while your told that the exclusive travelers club is the only way of getting multiple food choices or to sit in the terrace bar (anyone can have multiple food and the terrace is available if your privileged)
The "white walkers" as we came to call them, ruined our honeymoon.

The check in at this hotel takes way too long, luckily there was nobody before us but it still took about half an hour to check in (the vibe here is that the staff really don't want to put much effort into their jobs so everything takes ages)

Our honeymoon suite was tiny, we got excited when we saw the pictures of the suite and despite us being the only actual honeymoon couple we seemed to receive the smallest room which was overlooked by all people leaving, many a time I was drying myself after a shower to be looked at by the people out the window, you basically have to keep the curtains closed and due to not having a main light the room is light by lamps, which means it's always really dark.

Don't bother using the outdoor pool that is offered, it takes hours to fill and when your done it just empties itself, totally useless (they should swap these for hot tubs), the toilet in the room is really bad, to flush it fills the toilet (like it's been blocked) and then drains away, I had to unblock it 3 times using a water bottle as the tissue paper just clogs.

The grounds are beautiful but this is clearly part of the hotel creating its fake image online, there are signs everywhere with hash tags on so that people see the many beautiful pictures, don't get me wrong it's a beautiful place but that's it, it's style over substinance, it's like buying a tool from a bargain shop, looks good until you use it then you realise it's useless...

The beach is beautiful, the sea is so blue and amazing! (this would still be here if the hotel wasn't so I'm not giving them credit for this)

The food is hit and miss, if you want overcooked bland food then use the buffet, the pizzeria is beautiful the pizza from there is great!
The Italian restaurant sells pasta, that's it...

The Yuca restaurant is the best one on site (it's Caribbean food so you'd expect them to know how to cook this)

The steakhouse is again hit and miss we went there the first night and had a steak, it was incredible!
The second time we had a new yorker steak, we asked for medium rare (they have no idea what this means by the way, it takes about an hour of explaining what medium rare is... Seriously you claim to be a steakhouse, learn the terminology it's not rocket science) anyway the steak came out blue so we had to send it back and explain again about how to cook a steak properly (just give me the steak and a grill and I'll do it myself)

The pool is beautiful, it's absolutely full of screaming children so if you want quiet don't go there. The water is clear and cleaned regularly, they have a "jacuzzi" which is "child free" so yeah that's a lie the jacuzzi is gross cold water with a nice head of grease, dry skin, insects and sun lotion, plus its always full of kids! (just go the beach)

If you want a decent sun lounger then the latest you can wake up is 6am, they have a "no reserving" policy but this isn't enforced so if you are stupid enough to follow the rules then you have an even worse holiday experience.

The WiFi is incredible the best I've had at any hotel even in the sea I had Internet signal, I think this again is because they want you to post online how great it looks, and it does look great (I go back to by bargain tool comment...)

There is an option for a romantic meal on the beach which we got complimentary as it was our honeymoon, well we had to go to guest services to ask for it and then when we turned up for the meal they had no idea and had to setup another table, everyone else got a rose on their table but being English they really don't get care about us, so we didn't get one. The meal itself isn't romantic, your getting bitten every other second and the light is terrible, we couldn't see the food and had very little choice about the starters, we got octopus as a starter which was gross, not very "romantic" and then undercooked canaloni, which was hard. I only got to choose the main which was lovely, a nice steak. Basically don't bother it's like $120 if your not on your honeymoon, really really not worth it...

The drinks here are very nice, as you would expect they are very strong which is great for me (I recommend the banana mama)

The entertainment is not good enough its the same every week/day the animation team don't want to know you exist if your English, if you speak fluent Spanish / Italian then your fine you'll have a great holiday (apart from the "white walkers" they truly destroy this hotel.

We had the option for privelege again being our honeymoon you are automatically upgraded, this holiday would have been rubbish if we were not privelege, if you can't afford the privilege here then don't come, really don't... You'll hate it.

There are a lot of comments about the hotel not knowing English and that's not really the point, I don't care that when I go on holiday they aren't fluent in English I don't expect that but they have NO IDEA what your saying most of the time, as a restaurant I ordered from the menu saying exactly what the menu said "French Toast" and I got a Mexican tortilla thing as the waitor had no idea what I was saying ITS CALLED FRENCH TOAST ON THE MENU YOU GAVE ME! There's only like 10 things on the menu, learn those 10 things!

Also if your English prepare to be ignored when all the fun stuff happens, the staff don't know how to ask how your day is or whether your having a nice holiday, small touches you think would mean nothing you really miss, plus the animation team literally can't speak a word of English so give up trying with them.

The night entertainment is 90% salsa dancing, it's so weird, maybe Spanish and Italians love salsa dancing but I have no idea how to dance so 90% of the entertainment put me either to sleep or in a mood great stuff.

The "coconut party" "bbq party" "foam party" aren't parties at all, you go to the smallest part of the beach full of spikey bits on the floor you are pulled into a salsa dancing segment, and then a conga line, it's not a party. Plus the foam party is literally an inflatable pool that 100 people are squashed into, there told to hold there hands up and then they have foam fired at there faces, all the little kids were crying and they had to get a hose pipe out as nobody could see anything.
The advertisement for this foam party was doing it at the pool, this isn't what happens!

So like I said earlier if your privilege you'll get a better holiday you get specific seating areas, better drink selections and access to better food and sun loungers... But if your not privelege just hide your wrist band and go do all that stuff anyway!everyone else does! As long as you use your own towels and hide your wrist they presume you are privileged, bet everyone is dead happy about spending the few extra hundreds! 😂

In all this place "looks nice" and it's clearly a ploy so that you constantly post on Instagram all the pretty scene's so the world thinks it's the greatest holiday they'll ever have.

We have enjoyed the most part but we prefer sitting around drinking and eating food, if you want a holiday with any substinance go somewhere else I beg you.

If your English and like us are the type to say ahh I don't really trust reviews I'll give them a go, there not too badly priced, please don't waste your money or your time.

I am never ever ever ever ever returning here for as long as I live and I will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever stay at a catalonia hotel ever again, if you understand this review then please don't use this chain, they are utterly rubbish.

I end on this little note.
Management may comment on this post and say "we take your feedback on board and will let the departments concerned know" and that "they thank me for commenting on how beautiful the hotel is" maybe even "we apologise for the experience you had we strive for a much better service" well these are all generic rubbish that mean nothing to nobody, they don't take feedback on board, they don't care about you or your holiday, just how deep your pockets are.

Management

GET RID OF THE EXCLUSIVE TRAVELLERS SALESMEN THEY ARE RUINING YOUR HOTEL

TEACH YOUR STAFF THE BASICS OF ENGLISH, PLEASE, THANK YOU, FRENCH TOAST...

STOP CONCENTRATING SO HARD ON HOW YOU LOOK AND START LOOKING AFTER YOUR GUESTS

STOP SHOWING PEOPLE RUBBISH ROOMS AND FORCING THEM TO UPGRADE, YOU ARE BASICALLY THEIVES

BURN YOURSELF DOWN AND LET A NICE COMPANY TAKE OVER CAUSE YOUR NOT NICE

I hope this review helps, if you choose to come here after reading this then that's on you.

TUI
If you travel with TUI here than your a moron, TUI forget about you they simply get you here and then that's it, if you do travel to this resort (God help you) then do it yourself, trust me your not missing out, TUI had 0 benefit for us, just book everything yourself and save your money.

Strongly recommend this hotel, we are spend one week in Paradise

Hi!
We are spend our vacations in Catalonia Grand Dominikus in March 2019. We had Privilege package, but i recommend to buy normal package cause all was really good so you don't need pay more.
In main buffet you will have really huge choise of the snacks and delitious foods, you maybe no need have Privilege, that included restaurants card.
The beach is awesome, clean and big enough.
There is no russian tourists in the hotel, it is good advantage. Mostly it is italians, french, canadians and South America visitors (Argentine, Chili).
The territory is huge and has an old palm garden, love it so much.
Personnel are beautiful and friendly, we had enjoing to be there.
For the individual tours like Saona etc. i recommend to choose individual like Pac Tours (FB) and others. You will have more of liberty for the same money.

Things i don't liked - smokers at the beach and sigarets butts in the sand. Maybe it is possible separate smockers from other peoples?
Another thing not good - plastic garbage ewerywhere outside of the hotel. I guess DR will loose a lot of the tourists a cause of that.

Very nice beach resort

Very nice rooms (priviliged). Beautiful gardens with room layout making it a more a bungalow park than a hotel. Nice beach with good swimming area and easy snorkeling at artificial reef with 25+ different species spotted. Good food with variaty over the week. Sometimes rather loud entertainment with noisy basses.
