Overview

A boutique beach hotel on Koh Lanta's striking cliffs, with breakfast, plus a lunch for longer stays

The Lowdown

Perched on the sun-drenched cliffs that overlook the Andaman Sea in Koh
Lanta, The Houben Hotel is an intimate boutique destination. The property is home to just 15 guest rooms,
all with a stunning sea view and modern, traditionally inspired
interiors that exude luxury.
Walk a few steps down to
the hotel’s sunny terrace to slip into the infinity
pool, and walk a little way beyond the hotel grounds to find Kantieng
Bay, the perfect hideaway beach on Koh Lanta island. In the evening,
beautiful warm accents of red and orange light up this space and create
a harmonious spot for a fruity cocktail or Thai beer.
The
Houben snagged a spot among Koh Lanta’s top five hotels on TripAdvisor and also nabbed one of the site’s Travelers’ Choice awards for being one of Thailand’s
top 25 hotels for romance, promising your stay here will be one to remember. After all, just as with its location, the view’s just better from the top.

Rooms

Superior rooms feature a private balcony and are
situated just a few steps from the infinity pool, while the balcony in the Deluxe rooms
offers breathtaking views and a private Jacuzzi.
The guest rooms combine fresh tones with warming accents and Thai
textures. A single-cup gourmet coffee maker,
flat-screen TV and oversized fluffy towels add the finishing luxurious
touches to these small slices of boutique heaven.

Dining

The
Houben Hotel provides a breakfast of tasty treats and fresh ingredients to
start your day in Thailand. The Red Alert Bar & Restaurant serves a
variety of cuisines in the open air beside the infinity pool, including
imported Belgian foods – specially selected by the hotel’s Belgian
owners – alongside Thai specialties.

Spa

Here, you’ll be able to attain relaxation to the fullest degree. The hotel offers
revitalizing spa treatments designed to de-stress you and complement Koh
Lanta’s easy-going atmosphere. Massages, skincare and botanical
treatments are delivered by expert members of staff, skilled in the areas
of pampering and serenity.

Location

The hotel is
perfectly positioned on a cliff, affording it spectacular sea views. It’s also just a five-minute walk from nearby bars, restaurants
and shopping areas. Bakantiang Beach is not too far and a perfect spot
to see the horizon, with white sands between your toes.

FABULOUS!
Reviewed 1 week ago

This was my first time in Koh Lanta but not my first in Thailand. Firstly I LOVED the hotel and the staff. The hotel was pristine, modern (I was amazed it was 10 years old) and the adult only rule was heaven - I wish more hotels had this policy! The staff knew our names from check in and as it is a small boutique hotel, it feels personal. The rooms were large, modern and trendy. Loved the design features. We stayed in two different rooms (as we had to move to another hotel due to availability and then come back, which the owner organised for us) We were sad to leave but loved coming back as the other hotel didn't compare. One was on the top floor with amazing views of the ocean and then the suite- both were amazing! I loved the grassed private outside area in the suite where we sat in front of the ocean and had happy hour drinks- bliss. The hotel has monkeys that drop by every so often from the trees- this is a highlight as I LOVE monkeys; one even came over to my bed and tried to drink from my bottle- amazing! Cocktails were great, as was breakfast.
The outlook was so tranquil and it is really close to the beautiful beach. I would love to come back to this hotel!

Idyllic adult retreat

Not sure I can say enough about this 4* 15 room boutique hotel. I would definitely give it a 12/10 or 6*. From the moment we arrived we fell in love with the ambience and the attention to detail that is apparent throughout. The staff led by Shana were cheerful, professional, courteous and welcoming from the management through to the domestic staff. Perched on a hill overlooking the sea, all rooms had a view. The pool at the front was excellent for swimming or relaxing in the spa, which miraculously came on every time you entered it again thanks to the attentive staff. The restaurant was a gourmets delight. A variety of choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Very generous sizes as well, maybe pricey compared to local Thai, but nothing that wasn’t warranted or worth it. A small gym catered for my husband every morning. The room was always cleaned by the time we returned from breakfast - yet another attention to detail. The staff definitely, but unobtrusively, cater to your every need. All in all nothing was too much trouble for anyone. Also look out for the cheeky monkeys, the lizards, frogs and abundant non threatening wildlife. Location is excellent also, only a short walk to beach, restaurants, massages, 7/11 etc.. at the quiet end of Koh Lanta. Every thing about this place would ensure our return. If you want a romantic getaway or just some space from the kids, this is a must. A huge thank you to Shana, Walter and staff for making our first (but not last) stay so memorable.

Peaceful and Relaxing
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We were there at the end of May 2018, stayed for 4 nights and it was lovely. The view was spectacular, the environment was so peaceful and very relaxing. If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is the place. The air is so fresh you can stay outside all day, but beware of mosquitoes and bugs. Eateries and 7 Eleven were only about 5 mins walk away. But for us, it was the month of Ramadan and also the start of low season and many shops were closed.
Bed was comfortable, the tune down service was good, rooms were very quiet and huge!
Just 1 tiny problem tho, there were many many bugs (beetles I think) that entered our room via a small gap in the door I assume. No mosquitoes in the room, which is awesome. However, bugs are too to be expected as we were surrounded by the jungle :)

The best hotel EVER

Wow! This hotel ticks all the boxes, they have thought of everything. The hotels itself is beautiful, perfect location, the view is absolutely stunning and the service is exceptional.
The rooms are so, so lovely, big and specious, huge comfy bed. We booked s deluxe bedroom so ours had a shower and a bath. The big jacuzzi bath was looking out to the incredible view so we had one every night.
The pool is lovely and there’s some sun loungers on some artificial grass. We enjoyed cocktails at happy hour and watch the sunset. The breakfast is really nice too and we also enjoyed lunch there one day too. They even offer a turn down service every night and you get a little treat on your first night but I won’t ruin the surprise.
The location is close to a few restaurants but it’s pretty quiet but it’s perfect to chill. Restaurants near by are good there’s the drunken sailer and chill cafe also the seafood restaurant across the road although it has mixed review on trip advisor.
We took a visit to the animal welfare centre too which is one of the top things to do on trip advisor. I’d recommend you go to support the place.
