A boutique beach hotel on Koh Lanta's striking cliffs, with breakfast, plus a lunch for longer stays

The Lowdown

Perched on the sun-drenched cliffs that overlook the Andaman Sea in Koh
Lanta, The Houben Hotel is an intimate boutique destination. The property is home to just 15 guest rooms,
all with a stunning sea view and modern, traditionally inspired
interiors that exude luxury.
Walk a few steps down to
the hotel’s sunny terrace to slip into the infinity
pool, and walk a little way beyond the hotel grounds to find Kantieng
Bay, the perfect hideaway beach on Koh Lanta island. In the evening,
beautiful warm accents of red and orange light up this space and create
a harmonious spot for a fruity cocktail or Thai beer.
Houben snagged a spot among Koh Lanta’s top five hotels on TripAdvisor and also nabbed one of the site’s Travelers’ Choice awards for being one of Thailand’s
top 25 hotels for romance, promising your stay here will be one to remember. After all, just as with its location, the view’s just better from the top.

Superior rooms feature a private balcony and are
situated just a few steps from the infinity pool, while the balcony in the Deluxe rooms
offers breathtaking views and a private Jacuzzi.
The guest rooms combine fresh tones with warming accents and Thai
textures. A single-cup gourmet coffee maker,
flat-screen TV and oversized fluffy towels add the finishing luxurious
touches to these small slices of boutique heaven.

Houben Hotel provides a breakfast of tasty treats and fresh ingredients to
start your day in Thailand. The Red Alert Bar & Restaurant serves a
variety of cuisines in the open air beside the infinity pool, including
imported Belgian foods – specially selected by the hotel’s Belgian
owners – alongside Thai specialties.

Here, you’ll be able to attain relaxation to the fullest degree. The hotel offers
revitalizing spa treatments designed to de-stress you and complement Koh
Lanta’s easy-going atmosphere. Massages, skincare and botanical
treatments are delivered by expert members of staff, skilled in the areas
of pampering and serenity.

The hotel is
perfectly positioned on a cliff, affording it spectacular sea views. It’s also just a five-minute walk from nearby bars, restaurants
and shopping areas. Bakantiang Beach is not too far and a perfect spot
to see the horizon, with white sands between your toes.

Cannot fault this hotel! It was amazing!
Rooms are huge, so clean (linen was lightly scented with vanilla!), great bathroom, balcony, great pool... Set on top of a cliff with beautiful views of the ocean!
Breakfast was excellent and the service impeccable (Well done Shana!!)
Couple of minutes walk down to Kantiang's little village and beach.
I would definitely recommend this as the ONLY place to stay while in Lanta.
we stay here for 7 nichts and love it... thanks

We have just returned from 14 nights in The Houben and are much refreshed. and had a wonderful time. The hotel is very modern, with a freaky red pool (which decorated in red, black and white. Whilst stark for some tastes, I found it chic and pleasant. The pool are. The sun beds are extremely comfortable and nice and wide, with large towels provided, although I would have preferred a larger umbrella and some day beds.

As has been mentioned, the hotel is, basically, run by Shana, the owner’s daughter and without her I don’t know how the place would fare. She works extremely hard at making everyone’s stay pleasant and stress free.

The rooms truly are wonderful: large, modern, airy, with a spectacular view across the bay. We were on the top floor so could lie in bed and watch the sunset. The bed too, is huge, although a tad hard for me. The shower is large and good and we had a deluxe room with a huge Jacuzzi tub, which I made the most of – although you do have to plan your bath, Lovely organic bath products are provided – and not in little plastic tubes, but in glass pumps, a extra nice touch. Daily housekeeping was good, although if I were to be picky it could be a little more thorough – the glass shelf in the shower, for instance

The hotel is well situated with a pleasant walk to the beach , Motorbike rental is cheap and easy and driving in Koh Lanta is not at all scary, so well worth renting something to explore further afield.

The Red Alert could be such a wonderful place for a special meal, breakfast is great and once you let Shana know once how you like your food, that is exactly how you will continue to get it.

I would recommend The Houben as it was a great experience and , But trying very hard, and a charming host such as Shana,
Koh Lanta is a wonderful island

chose this hotel because it did not have too many rooms
and no children are allowed, we stayed in room 204 on the 2nd floor, from our room and from all rooms there is a beautiful view of the sea, our room was very spacious and also a balcony, the breakfast was a la cart with very good capucino,
we also ate a few times in the hotel restaurant, which we really enjoyed
if you come to koh lant definitely stay at the Houben hotel

Wonderful Little Hotel

We had a wonderful two week stay at The Houben in May this year. We arrived quite late after a long journey from the UK but Shana had rang us to ask if we wanted food from the restaurant so that was waiting when we arrived which was a godsend.
The hotel only has 15 rooms and was pretty quiet when we were there due to it being the start of the rainy season, not that it rained very much when we were there. Only one night of heavy rain but other than that very little.
We were allocated a room on the top floor with wonderful sea views. The rooms were huge and had everything you needed with some really toiletries. We’d read previous reviews where they claimed that toiletries were restricted but that couldn’t be further from the truth. They were always well stocked up so no issues there. The rooms were kept spotlessly clean by the excellent room staff.
The pool area was well kept and the pool was perfect and always quiet. We basically had it to ourselves for most of the time we were there. We were served various mid morning smoothies round the pool throughout our stay which was a nice touch.
The breakfast was huge and always accompanied by fruit juice a smoothie and a plate of fresh fruit served by the very helpful and pleasant staff. We always had a cocktail before walking down to the village at night. They were excellent, a bit pricier than in the village but that was expected. They were excellent and served with snacks so worth the bit extra.
The hotel has a small gym with a decent treadmill, cross trainer and bike with some free weights. It was more than enough for a hotel gym and again had it to myself during our stay.
Overall a very good hotel and an excellent holiday and would definitely recommend it.
The staff were all great and an asset to the hotel. Thanks to Shana and the team for all of their excellent and friendly service.

Relax stay

Hotel was situated south of Koh Lanta, not much activities going on as it's Hari Raya festive period. We drove to the national park, northern island & the old town for the entire stay.
Room was spacious, always clean as it was made up twice a day and filled with drinking water. Bed and pillow was comfort & cosy except for the hot water shower as at times it will suddenly turn cold for few minutes.
Hotel breakfast was good as Ms Shana was always there to prepare and get order from us :). She even get to know our names which we were guessing how does she know even though we did not tell her (hahahaha). There was once we came back and it was raining heavily, she noticed us and brought an umbrella to our car.
Overall I would like to thank Ms Shana & her team for the great hospitality that we had.
