How to Get There
The hotel was very beautiful. A beautiful view of the beach and water from our room. the beach secluded and had a island that you could walk over to at low tide. The hotel staff were friendly and very accommodating, my wife would get very hot and when we ate they would get a potable air con for her. Spa facilities were great too..
I stayed here 2 nights with my gf and we were blown away by the beauty and layout of the hotel. The bungalows are scattered throughout the property . The one we stayed in had a stunning view of the ocean. The pool by the beach was relaxing and big. All the amenities spa gym etc. They had. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I will be recommending to friends.
Summary, yes stay here if your are after a nice hotel, a quieter area and an ok beach. It is quite a tidal area so the water does flow in and out a fair distance. As some people have commented Nakamanda is getting a bit old and dated in some aspects, but the villas are nice, clean and quiet. You can see on to other Villas outside areas as some people comment but it didn't really bother me just sitting out there reading or having a quiet drink. Be aware that there are quite a few steps to get around the complex due to it being built on the side of a small hill. Service was generally excellent and very friendly. We really liked Alid by the pool.
The beach I would rate as OK to good, there is a bit of rock and shell under foot but it's not too bad. There was a strong tide one night that unfortunately bought a lot of trash on to the beach but up till then it had been pretty free of rubbish. There were a lot of sticks on the beach as the beaches nearby are lined with trees that are close to the water at high tide.
Rooms are set in a lovely tropical garden setting, request an '02 room. Most villas are in pairs one mirrored on top of the other like 501/502, 601/602 etc. with the '02 above. Being on top you have a better chance of a view of the sea but they are maybe 10 steps up.
Money, there is an ATM across the road but it was out of service, staff here said it had kept some cards so don't use it. As you walk to the front if you turn right there are 3 ATMs on the outside of a 7/11 about 10+ mins fast walk on the beach side of the road. There is also a stand alone ATM to the left a little closer on the beach side out front of a restaurant. It is just before you get to the 7/11 (on other side of road) that is in that direction. Walk to the right as the are 3 to choose from.
I hired a scooter for a day at the place across the road from the resort, 300 baht for a day, no issues, drivers licence OR passport could be left. There are many nearby Scooter hire places. There are lots of local restaurant choices, on the beach and on the road. The main beach ones are to the right around the nearby point as you look toward the Sea. We only ate Thai, and to be honest all the food was pretty much the same and service was good and friendly. You would be unlucky to have a bad experience.
Make sure you have umbrellas (provided) at your room entrance as you can get caught with the rain and there is no cover on the resort walkways. Some of the local restaurants and bars have a happy hour for cheaper drinks, the drinks at the hotel are a little pricey. Consider buying some drinks at the 7/11, they take cards, and keep them in the small fridge in the Villa.
The hotel has a shuttle to Krabi town or Ao Nang, each twice a week, which was handy as they are both a bit of a distance and a taxi a bit pricey.
There are some small biting insects so make sure you have a decent insect bite relief cream. It may be ants. I tend to be susceptible to bites and it took some days before the itch stopped even with cream. This is NOT a big deal or problem, just be aware.
Having now stayed in a few boutique smaller higher quality hotels and resorts I much prefer these to the bigger places. Thanks Nakamanda we had a really great and relaxing stay!
We loved this hotel! The room was lovely and the service was excellent. Great views over the beach from the pool and the staff by the pool are great. Food was great and we loved the spa treatments-the vouchers in the room are really good and massages were excellent.
Possibly the best hotel we stayed in Thailand-highly recommend it!
This was our first time to Krabi. We have booked two hotels, first one was Nakamanda Resort & Spa. There were only thirty nine rooms in this resort. Every room has its own terrace or balcony. High privacy and peacefully quiet. The staffs were all very helpful and friendly. Decent breakfast and swimming pool. The only thing not really satisfied probably the beach not good to swim. Overall it was a nice and lovely resort to stay.
