Perfect Getaway .... You will want to come back for more!

Pimalai is a 5-star resort on Lanta Island. That's all I know before I made a trip there.
However, it's absolutely beyond my expectation in many senses.

The villa is spacious and well maintained. The private pool has an amazing panoramic view of the ocean. We stayed in villa 601 which is located next to the main facilities. The view may not as good as villa 7xx-8xx-9xx but it's convenient since you can have access to the main pool at mostly anytime you want. No need to wait for buggy service.

Breakfast is very nice. To be honest, I've seen better breakfast at other resorts but its quality and service is still at 5-star. The view in the morning makes things tastier .... that's for sure.

The resort is located up on a hill which give you unlimited spectacular view all day. The sandy beach stretches for 900 meters. There are 3-4 restaurants on the property and many more within walking distance. This is truly an oasis - a secret sanctuary - a paradise found resort. I still want to revisit again and probably request different room for different view. Magical time really happened while staying here. Thanks to all staff.

Paradise Found

We have stayed at a number of large luxury resorts, both in Thailand and across South East Asia and Pimalai is one of our favourites.

Firstly, the attitude of the staff was excellent. Whilst you expect very friendly service in Thailand, the staff at Pimalai were among the best anywhere we have stayed.

Koh Lanta takes a bit more effort to get to than some other places (e.g. Phuket, Koh Samui). We basically spent an entire day travelling from Hong Kong (whereas Koh Samui and Phuket are direct flights), but it was definitely worth the additional effort. The beach was quiet and the hotel was not overly crowded. Whilst the beach is not spectacular like nearby Railay Beach (where we stayed a few years ago), there are no day trippers so the beach is all yours during the day.

The upper pool is spectacular - although there is little shade after lunch so if you are like us and do not want to sit in the sun all afternoon, we would suggest going there immediately after breakfast.

We ate at the Thai restaurant most nights, which was good by resort standards. Although, we noted that they toned down some of the spice for the special Thai buffet and dancing night (which is once a week) to cater for western tourists who maybe don’t eat a lot of Thai food - we preferred the Tom Yum Goong and other classic Thai dishes when we ordered them off the menu. The seafood buffet by the beach (once a week) was also excellent.

The resort offers the usual selection of activities. We greatly enjoyed having a go at Muay Thai classes. The gym facilities are generally excellent.

The boat trip to Koh Rok is well organised and the beach is great. There were plenty of fish to see whilst snorkelling. We only wished the boat was slightly faster so that we would have had more time to spend there (it takes about 1.5 hours to get to Koh Rok, so you spend a lot of the trip on the boat). We understand that they might use a faster boat on days when fewer people sign up for the trip.

We stayed at a deluxe room, which are all newly renovated. We would suggest booking with the hotel directly and requesting an upper floor.

Overall, compared to other resorts in the same price range, Pimalai was excellent. You can pay a lot more for a lot less in other busier areas of Thailand. In fact, it was so great that after a few days at the resort we decided to change our flights (at some cost) and add two additional nights to our stay so that we could stay in paradise a little longer.

Beach, Food, and Muy Thai of course

This was an outstanding property and we had an incredible villa over looking the ocean, low on the mountain, so we had a quick 3 minute walk to the beach. The food was fantastic with lots of choices and the staff was very pleasant. We had an excellent Thai cooking class and Muy Thai training session. Having this at the end of the trip was exactly the relaxing way we needed to conclude such a fantastic trip.

Fabulous

This hotel is absolute first class. The setting is so beautiful, you feel like you’re right in the middle of the rainforest. The staff had impeccable manners and were super friendly, they make you feel like nothing is too much trouble and they’re always smiling and happy.

The rooms are absolutely gorgeous, the view is fabulous, the gym is fabulous, the food is fabulous. The massages are superb. Eco friendly, great attention to detail. This should be on your list if you’re visiting the islands, an absolute must

Great place to stay

I really enjoyed my stay here. The staff is very kind and will do anything to make your stay great. The pools are nice and so is the beach. No problem finding beach chairs. The village is a short walk from the hotel. just walk down the beach and there is a walkway just past the "why not" bar which is also a fun place. And check out Pad Thai rock and roll for some great tom yum soup. I would stay here again for sure. The transport back to the airport was perfectly arranged as was the pickup (we came by ferry from phuket)
