peace and sunset views

Recently stayed in a beach villa for 4 nights. If I could give it an exact rating it wouldn't be quite 5 star (although prices are 5 star level), but its certainly way better than 4 star ..... so 5 it is.

Minor negatives:

1. Room was nice but not lux and some of the resort buildings also a little tired (for 5 star that is)
2. Sea lice in the ocean, not the fault of the resort obviously, but I was bitten all over and couldnt swim in the ocean again. Apparently it effects some and not others.
3. The prices for food and drinks were at least twice of those just up the beach (although thats normal for a resort right)

Positives:

1. Great friendly staff
2. Amazing sunsets from Talay on the beach and Seven Seas up the top & happy hour 2 for 1 is good value. Put these together - happy hour sunsets are a must do.
3. Food excellent at all resturants. I was particularly impressed with the range and quality of the room service.
4. Resort Pools very nice
5. Thai cooking class was very informative and enjoyable, perhaps my favourite part of the stay
6. In general a great spot for a peaceful, quiet getaway

Paradise!

My wife & I stayed at the Pimalai Resort & SPA for 8 days. Without a doubt, this is one of the best hotels we ever stayed.
We felt very special the moment we arrived at the Krabi airport when greeted and picked up by the hotel staff. The car and speed boat transfers were brilliant and made an almost two hour journey really enjoyable.
Our one bedroom villa with a private pool was simply outstanding! Luxurious, spacious, exceptionally clean & comfortable (even a ceiling fan in the patio area) with most beautiful views.
The hotel has 3 restaurants all serving high quality foods in stunning surroundings.
The staff were all amazing, most professional, helpful & courteous.
We genuinely had a most wonderful time at the Pimalai and if one word was to summarise this hotel, it would have to be Paradise!

AMAZING Honeymoon in Paradise
Reviewed 2 days ago

If you are thinking about going here, stop thinking about it and book it! It will not disappoint!!

We have just returned from what is now our favourite place we’ve ever been. Having read all the trip advisor reviews before booking our expectations were extremely high. They were exceeded. This place is truly paradise. We splashed out for an ocean view pool villa and booked the 5 night Ultimate Dream package for the end of our honeymoon in Thailand.

We were blown away by how well this resort is run. It is a big resort but you don’t at all feel like you are one of many guests staying. All staff members throughout the hotel were the nicest people I’ve come across - the front desk, the food and beverage manager, the spa employees, the restaurant staff and the men driving the buggy’s taking you around the resort.. absolutely everyone was so helpful. We had no issues with anything here but if we had I know 100% it would be dealt with right away. I commented to my husband a couple of times that the management in the resort are incredible, it’s such a big operation and they have it running exceptionally.

Our room was absolutely stunning. We stayed in 716 which was at the very top, the view was incredible. Each villa was so private and peaceful, we loved it. We ordered room service about 3 times during our stay, having come from Bangkok where the room service in our hotel was extortionately priced we were so surprised to find the room service a lot cheaper than that in Bangkok, it would still cost you more than getting something on the beach but we didn’t find it outrageous and for the convenience of eating on your own terrace, enjoying the villa it was definitely worth it. All room service meals were lovely!

Our package included breakfast in Seven Seas restaurant, it was fabulous and we also had some meals in the resort restaurants which we used. The food and beverage manager contacted us a couple of weeks prior to arrival to explain everything that was included and to arrange bookings. She was so helpful!
All were lovely, except for the food from the beach restaurant Rak Tayla. I see most other reviews liked this restaurant so possibly it just wasn’t to our taste. It’s no reflection on the staff who were absolutely fantastic, we just didn’t love the food. It looked great, just didn’t taste amazing.
We will be back at some point and would probably eat in spice and rice, order room service and have other meals in some of the separate beach restaurants where we’re all so tasty!

We had some spa treatments included also, these were the best spa treatments I’ve ever had. The spa was so beautiful and relaxing. Even if the treatments weren’t included the costs were still half the price of what you would pay in a 5 star spa in Europe.

We also had a day trip included. We went to Koh Rok snorkelling. It was a gorgeous day, so comfortable on the boat, the lunch bbq was delicious and the beach at koh rok was amazing!

This was by far the best part of our honeymoon, and the best place we’ve ever stayed. What an experience. We are already thinking about when we can return!

Faultless

This was our third visit to Pimalai so obviously we love it. Rather than just rave about it, which would be so easy to do, a practical guide may be of more interest and utility.

The two key attributes of Pimalai are its location and the staff. Firstly the location, Pimalai overlooks a small bay with clean white sand and a blue sea. The beach is private so there are no vendors, which you may view as a good or bad thing depending on your preferences. A hill covered in lush vegetation rises up from the bay. Set into the hillside are the rooms either individually or in small blocks.

The resort is essentially split into two parts by a road. The lower part contains the bulk of the restaurants, access to the beach, one infinity pool and the deluxe rooms, beach rooms and villas. The upper part of the resort, further up the hill, contains another restaurant, a second infinity pool and the pool villas, again set into the hillside. The facilities are shared between the two parts so if, for example as we were, you are in the lower part there is no issue using the upper restaurant or pool. I would certainly recommend going to the top part at least once during your stay if only for the spectacular views over the Andaman Sea. A buggy service runs between the two halves. If you feel like walking there is a shady pathway just across the road that leads to the top level. This is a much shorter walking distance than taking the road that twists and turns to cope with the gradient.

If Thailand is “The Land of Smiles” then Pimalai is truly the “Resort of Smiles”. Every member of the team is friendly and helpful. However this is not at the expense of efficiency. Everything is done promptly, never gets forgotten. Above that, nothing is too much trouble. An example: courtesy of Thai Airways we arrived nine hours later than planned and without our luggage, the airline having managed to leave the cases in Bangkok. We had literally only the clothes we stood up in. Assistant Manager NA and her reception team swung into action. They lent us clothes to tide us over until our cases did arrive. In the morning they arranged a trip into the village so we could purchase toiletries and swimwear. Finally they organised the safe arrival of our luggage from Krabi airport to Pimalai making sure it arrived in a timely manner.

We stayed in a deluxe room which is the entry level but very well equipped. The room was kept spotlessly clean, had a large and comfortable bed. There is a separate section with bath, shower and toilet. A private balcony overlooking the grounds/bay completes the set-up. These rooms are in blocks of four (two up and two down) dotted around the lower part of the resort.

We typically arrived on the beach at around 10am and never had any issue finding a sun bed. The sun beds are not crowded together but rather are well separated giving you a feeling of space.

As with the majority of tropical locations it is sensible to use bottled water. Unlike many resorts where you may get one complimentary bottle per day and then have to buy the rest, at Pimalai you should never need to buy any. There seems to be at least six bottles in the room and any empties are replaced daily. On the beach, the team come round on a regular basis to provide glasses of iced water, again complimentary.

The Spa is probably the best I have ever been to, the quality of the massages and the facilities are first rate. Best of all is the relaxation at the end of the treatment in the sala looking out over the forest surrounded by a pool of Koi. The spa seems to have frequent offers that serve to make it really good value – highly recommended.

As noted earlier, this is third time we have visited Pimalai. On every occasion we have said we would try eating off-resort but we have never done so. The reason is simple, the food is of such quality and at a reasonable price we have never been tempted to go elsewhere. In truth, we have never had a mouthful of food at this resort that we did not enjoy.

SPICE AND RICE. This is the main restaurant on the lower level. For guests on that level an excellent buffet breakfast is served here. There is a wide selection of cold meats, cheeses, fruit, cereals and cakes on offer. There is also a small selection of hot Western and Asian breakfast items. The selection does not change greatly from day to day but the breadth of choice is such that it never feels repetitive. We normally rolled up about 9am, there was never any queue and generally we had a good table with a view over the bay.

In the evenings Spice and Rice becomes a Thai food restaurant. There is a wide selection and personally I would recommend the Panang Gai, but everything we had there was well prepared and very tasty.

RAK TALAY. This is the beach bar and restaurant. It offers seafood and some meat dishes in both Western and Thai styles. This was the restaurant we went to most. If I had to characterise this restaurant in one word it would be ‘happy’. This is down to the predominantly young staff who exude warmth, friendliness and enthusiasm. None of this affects the quality and speed of service however. I suspect much of this is down to MAI, the restaurant manager, who combines friendly attitudes with excellent organisation. It is perhaps unfair to single out any one person, but a special mention for AUM who has enough energy to power the whole resort!

There are tables inside, but book in advance and get one of the dining salas looking out over the beach or indeed a table on the beach itself. One of the great pleasures of the holiday is to sit there with drink in hand, watching the sun set over the Andaman Sea and then recalling it is Happy Hour and there is a free drink on the way!

SEVEN SEAS. This is the main restaurant on the upper level. In the evening it becomes a fine dining restaurant with top quality Western dishes. The food is exquisitely prepared and delightfully served. Although it is more expensive, it is definitely worth going there at least once. Book in advance and get an outside table on the cliff top overlooking the bay.

In summary, this is a resort to get away from it all. If you are looking for a vibrant nightlife then Pimalai is not for you. If however you want relaxation, lovely surroundings, fine food and superlative staff then look no further.

Will we return for a fourth visit? Definitely.

Amazing stay

We had an amazing stay. Definitely lived up to the 5 stars. So many fun activities that are included on the private beach. We took the sailboat out (for the first time) and had a blast for a couple hours. They picked us up from the pier with only a two hour notice. Great service and location.
