Typically funky W on West Kowloon's waterfront — except this one has a 76th-floor infinity pool
W Hotel fans know the drill: energetic pop-art decor, cloud-like beds, party atmosphere, cheeky service, business with a side of fun. But what they might not be expecting is a 76th-floor heated salt-water infinity pool and Jacuzzi, still one of the highest in Hong Kong. Slightly surrealist decor with woodland motifs and dramatic lighting calms down (a bit) in the 393 guestrooms, slicked with greens, teals, and gold and butterfly fringed lampshades. Use your Bliss bath products in the slate showers or soaking tub. All in all it's a youthful tonic to Kowloon's usual grand dame hotels.
In the Area
Kowloon offers grit to Hong Kong island's gloss, a dense mass of residential realness bulging with hawkers and salarymen—and some only-in-HK markets. The Star Ferry lets off in Tsim Sha Tsui, home to the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Avenue of the Stars promenade, and the neon-signed awesomeness of Nathan Road (come back to the Jordan section at night). Pop into the Chungking and Mirador Mansions, hulking buildings hiding a warren of once-illicit shops. Northward in Mong Kok, you can find a feathered friend at the Bird Market, a scaly one at the Goldfish Market or new kicks on Sneaker Street.
