Overview

The Review

An Eden that celebrates the raw beauty of nature, Kauai feels like a funhouse of outdoor activities for anyone possessing even the tiniest sense of adventure. Between the gaping chasm of Waimea Canyon (the Grand Canyon of the Pacific) and the towering sea cliffs of the Na Pali Coast, Kauai delivers a feeling of Old Hawaii, from the laidback, friendly attitude of its people to its pristine, uncrowded beaches.

You get the independence of a villa (including a full gourmet kitchen with granite countertops and SubZero refrigerator and a washer-dryer and free WiFi) while still being able to cherry-pick from the resort’s menu of extras, including access to the Poipu Kai tennis club and swimming at the centrally located pool, which has its own whirlpool and waterfall.

One of the best aspects to shacking up here is the location. Although not immediately on the beach, the villas are a five-minute walk from the talcum powder-white expanse of famed Poipu Beach, where you can just kick back and sun-soak or go for a more action-packed day of learning to ride waves with Kauai surf schools. And being on the sunny south side of the island, you’re only a towel’s toss from five more world-class stretches of sand: Brennecke Beach, Shipwreck Beach, Baby Beach, Lawai Beach and Mahaulepu Beach.

Simply put, Kauai is the Hawaiian island for nature seekers. If lush greenery and gorgeous natural beauty are on your holiday checklist (rather than, say, a beachfront Hurricane-swilling party scene), then Kauai is a wise choice. And with multi-bedroom units and private kitchens, the Villas at Poipu Kai are well suited to those looking to explore it with family or friends.

Wonderful location and amenities,

We arrived having previously received access code for our 3 bedroom condo. Spacious and modern 5 minute walk to great snorkeling and boogie boarding. Beach chairs and boogie boards included. The swimming pool is clean and affords a comfortable day or afternoon at the pool. Our suite was clean and well organized, but could be cleaner. Dusty on light fixtures and hardware. This be our 'go to' rental when vacationing in Kauai's lovely Poipu.

Exceptional Stay!

Villas are equipped with all the amenities, including washer dryers and fully equipped kitchens. All the beach equipment available in the club house and the property manager is incredibly customer oriented. Location is a few minutes from the beach to allow everyone to walk back and forth. Parking right in front of condo. But most importantly they have full airconditioning so you don't have to wake up at the crack of dawn when the famous Hawaii Roosters start cock- a-doodling! Pool is great for small kids and dips for older ones. Awesome restaurants near by as well as hotels if here for work. The perfect home away from home!

This place was the same price as a hotel but was more of an apartment. It is located very conveniently near several restaurants and wonderful beaches. The area is blooming with flowers. It rained every morning but stopped just as the sun begins to rise so we could get out and enjoy the area.

Great location, luxury units with a few downsides

Great location 5 minutes walk from Brennecke beach. The pool is way too small for the number of units and people when it is full. The pool is fantastic for little kids; older kids will need to go to the beach.

The management company only provides 1 bath towel per person for your whole stay (also one beach towel, which is fine) and not enough flatware or plates in the kitchen, so expect to run the washer/dryer and the dishwasher with frequency if you are using every bed.

The units are large, well-laid out, clean, and the furnishings are nice. The bedrooms are large, and the mattresses were comfortable with nice bedding. Checking in is easy (automated). The WIFI is sufficient for watching one movie at a time.

The floors in all the units are hardwood or tile and there is limited insulation between the floors. If you’re on the top floor, you’re happy. If you’re underneath a family whose kids are running back and forth on the floor, you’re going to hear every footfall. On the positive side, the first floor units have a nice sitting/eating area facing out into the garden areas, especially for the C and D block buildings that face out onto a common space area shared with other developments.

Wonderful place to get away and relax.

Two couples visited during VT February school break. What a great choice. We had everything we needed. Stocked kitchen helped us cook meals in so we saved $ on food. Laundry in our villa meant we packed way less than usual. Close proximity to Poipu Beach meant easy access to the sights and sounds of one of the most unique beaches anywhere. Everything on Kauai is close by, at least by Vermont standards, so we have been able to see more sights than we ever thought we could fit into eight days. We are blessed and thankful. And looking forward to coming back!
