How to Get There
I was really worried about staying here after reading all the reviews about the construction, but it was totally a non factor.
Just book an ocean view or ocean front room and you’ll never see or hear any construction. I figured if I’m going all the way to Hawaii what the heck...spend a few more bucks and you won’t regret it.
And we didn’t!
In fact I’d like to personally thank Mr Chip Bahouth the GM for making our stay so terrific. My corner suite couldn’t have been more fantastic.
The pool is great and the beach is right there too.
One cool thing was that when we went to the restaurant they knew it was a special occasion even though we hadn’t told them. I guess the front desk shares info like that, very nice touch. The fire pits around the property are a great spot to have a drink in the evening.
Going to Waimea Canyon for the day is an easy trip from here too.
We didn’t do the Luau but it was fun just watching some of it from the pool area.
So don’t worry about the construction...just stay on the ocean and you’ll love it!
We just got back from an amazing trip to Hawaii with the Sheraton in Kauai being our second stop on our island hopping adventure. We received nothing but friendly faces and amazing help to make sure our stay was great for our honeymoon. We received chocolates and a voucher for a bottle of wine or champagne upon arrival and an ocean front room in the quiet area of the resort. The room was upgraded and had all the amenities you'd need in a stay. We loved walking the resort grounds and enjoying drinks and food at the pool restaurant Lava's. We had breakfast included in our stay and it was wonderful with so many options and such nice people working there. We only had to wait for a table one morning - all other days were quick and we always had a great view. We did notice construction on the other side of the road but we could not hear a thing from our room or while enjoying the pool or other areas of the resort. We had a rental car which is definitely necessary in Kauai but self parking was easy and included in the stay. We cannot wait to return to this beautiful island and relaxing resort!
If there was a negative star, I would rate this hotel (definitely not a resort) as a -1. Day 1 of our relaxing vacation- incessant jack hammers, trucks, equipment NOISE all afternoon- we left the resort within hours after arriving hoping to find some peace and quiet.... Only to come back to our room to think our neighbors are staying in our room with us- the walls are paper thin - we can hear details of their conversation!
Sadly, we already looked at leaving/ heading home early but now we are stuck here because of "a deal" and bc our airline does not have any open seats.
I never thought I would want to go home from a Hawaiian vacation early, no less within 12 hours of checking into a resort. If you are looking for a relaxing, quiet, stress free place to stay- this is NOT the place for you. If you are looking to stay right in the heart of a construction zone, this is the as good as it gets - jack hammers, trucks, NOISE ALL day just feet from your hotel room.
Lots of very noisy construction going on and a road separates most of the accomodation from the resort. Go somewhere else this place is not worth the money we paid for it! If you want a relaxing holiday this is not the place!
My husband and I decided to check out a Kauai time share after years of passing on these offers. We were led to believe we would receive 5 nights in an oceanfront room at the Sheraton. The day before we left, when it was too late to cancel, we were told that the property was under construction and we could either stay in a room overlooking a construction site or upgrade for an additional amount of money - bascically triple the cost. The time share person we were assigned said it was a bait and switch! She said many of her customers were also upset but her hands were tied. The hotel managers blamed the time share company. There is a lot of finger pointing with no one taking responsibility. Notwithstanding the bait and switch the property itself is just okay and nothing special. We "upgraded" since we didn't want 6 days of construction. And we managed to convince the hotel to reduce the cost of the upgrade but that still wasn't fair. The upgrade was an unattractive room with a noisy air conditioner that went off and all all night. The bath has rust and shabby workmanship (we have pics) and the whole property is disappointing. Nothing like the photos shown On line. The hotel staff are exceptionally nice but the hotel concierge we spoke with was useless. When we tried to book a sail she said it was all booked up. We called directly and there was plenty of space. Kaia is an amazing island with phenomenal hikes and a great laid back feel; Too bad this well situated property is so poorly managed. SPG should be held accountable for its false and deceptive advertising. It's no wonder that people are now preferring AirB&B.
