Secluded beachside villas with private pools in Koh Samui with a romantic restaurant on a platform over the sea
Golf buggies whisk guests down narrow flower-filled alleyways to vast villas with private pools hidden behind large stone walls. There are no public spaces to speak of other than a small reception pavilion and a restaurant, so the resort feels completely secluded. The main focus here is the beach, on which couples can stroll hand in hand and from which adventurous types can kayak to nearby islands. A clutch of 33 spacious Pool Villas is spread across five levels around a small honey-colored cove. All have 'gram-worthy sea views, outdoor salas, living rooms and kitchens, plus coloring books for the kids. The decor is down to earth rather than designer, and there are a few sticky doors and scuffs around the edges, although these details are easily forgiven when you take a splash in your private pool. The hotel’s only restaurant (RockPool) is a romantic little number built on a platform over the sea; couples go there to canoodle in the candlelight. The à la carte menu leans toward French cuisine (think pan-fried fois gras and flown-in fresh oysters), but there are plenty of Thai favorites to be found, too. There’s also a blade-shaped infinity pool and a small simply designed spa with a range of fabulous massage treatments.
In the Area
To get straight into the island spirit, take a stroll around the fishermen’s village in Bhoput, a charming seaside stretch of old Chinese shophouses filled with local handicrafts (pick up some coconut candies at Blue Vanilla), cute boutiques, chic restaurants, sizzling street food carts and friendly bars. Want something with a bit more kick? Try a Muay Thai boxing class at Superpro Samui and then watch your trainers in action at Phetch Buncha Stadium later that night.
