On the northern coast of Koh Samui, the Scent Hotel is a boutique retreat on the shores of Bangrak Beach. It’s isolated enough to feel peaceful but is within easy reach of the island’s thumping nightclubs. The overall design theme is 1940s and ’50s colonial Southeast Asia, and the 14 rooms are individually decorated in French, Chinese, or Thai styles. Scent is a defining feature; the hotel is the brainchild of a Bangkok brand known for its aromatic products and guests can customize the fragrance in their rooms. Aromatherapy is a key influence in the spa, while the Le Jaroen Restaurant is as much about the visual (star-filled skies overhead) and aural (the sound of lapping waves) experience as it is about the French-Siamese fusion cuisine.
In the Area
The island of Koh Samui, or Samui as locals and regular visitors call it, has a history that spans more than 325 years. It was discovered by backpackers several decades ago, but since the 1990s it’s become a present-day sophisticated enclave of excellent spas, dining and nightlife. The Big Buddha Temple is its most famous landmark, and the 39-foot-high golden deity is visited by devout locals as well as tourists. The hotel can also arrange private long-tail boat tours to the Five Islands to see caves, beaches and bamboo houses perched on high limestone cliffs, on islands that were until recently completely inaccessible to foreigners.
How to Get There
I arrived at this gorgeous aroma caught my attention which I followed through an unassuming door way to this secret treasure at the waters edge. When I walked into The Scent Hotel I was greeted by two attentive smiles, a cold cloth and welcome drink. Shortly after this I was taken up to my room and noticed it wasn't the room that I had booked online, mentioned it to them and they were happy to move me across to the one I had. Once I settled in to this beautiful tranquil space I was able to unwind and take them up on their 2 for 1 massage offer, of which I enjoyed a 2hr massage to melt me into relaxation before my slipper tub bath over looking the beach, then making my way to bed. The room was perfect in every way and a exactly what I needed to complete my trip. In the morning I was able to choose from selection of delicious breakfast options. Overall I would say this is a lovely hotel. A great place to stay if you are looking for something extra special in every way.
We are 2 persons on a rest and relax trip,8 days stay. Hotel is pleasant, quiet, and clean. Deco was nice and with very good local taste. Staff were generally pleasant, smiling, helpful and efficient.
B'fast were delicious and prepared to your order.Quantity and quality were matched.Nice view from the restaurant.
Hotel location is well situated away from crowd. Walking distance to other restaurants, convenient stores, bars, motor rentals...
There is a beach front for walking as well as a nice hilly track to do some excercises.
You have many choises for restaurants around to choose from..Fisherman's Village.
Myself and my boyfriend had the most amazing stay at the Scent hotel. In fact, we travelled to ko phangan after our stay and cut our journey short in ko phangan so that we could return to the Scent for 2 nights. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. The food was lovely but a lot more expensive than going into the fishermans village. The hotel is right on the beach and breakfast can be enjoyed looking at the sea. A fantastic experience. Highly recommend for couples, as it is very quiet and relaxing.
We have spend four days in the hotel during the last week of our holiday in Thailand.
The hotel is situated near the Bophut beach on a 10 minutes drive from Fishermans Village and about 20 minutes from the airport.
Once you entered the hotel, the noise of the traffic on the nearby road disappears completely.
It is more like a boutique hotel with few rooms. Try to book the rooms with an ocean view!
The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. They all do their utmost to help you in any way they can. (Especially when you accidentally stepped on a sea urchin, haha!)
You can order a private taxiservice at the reception; the rates charged are the same as on the street, maybe 100 Baht overpriced, but then you have a very comfortable car, a good driver and you don’t have to hail a taxi on the street.
The rooms are very spacious and have good beds. The bathroom is well decorated (sort of colonial style) with an emphasis on the hotel’s theme: scents. Splendid!
The hotel has a gastronomic restaurant (Le Jaroun). IMHO, the restaurant is worth a Michelin star. You can also lunch or dine at the restaurant when you are not staying in the hotel.
Conclusion: a real gem!
My husband and I stayed at The Scent for 2 nights before heading off to Koh Phangan. The entrance of the hotel was very discreet, we almost missed it in fact...
We were shown to our room and were informed that the pest control were spraying the area which we had no problem with- until they wanted to come INTO our room to spray just as we had arrived. Our room had a partial sea view and was adjacent to a Suite - that I thought I had paid for- The Sea Breeze suite. The room we had booked didn't look like the images on the Trip Advisor page and when I asked, I was informed that any room with a sea view and had a ... sea breeze was the Sea Breeze Suite... Not sure if i believe this. The bath tub was dirty, the toilet seat was a horrible shade of yellow and there were strange black bits in the shower that i quickly washed away. The bathroom also had a strange smell that lingered the entire time we were there (maybe the pest control came while we were out?)
The beach is very quiet and next to a villa in the process of being built, we didnt experience construction noises but I'm sure there is plenty to come. Breakfast was just okay and the staff were nice but didn't offer any help to us when we were leaving IE, taxi etc. It just seemed very neglected and past its expiry date.
