I NEVER write reviews but something needs to be said...I also ALWAYS see the best in every experience/situation and I am not a difficult person to please.
After 2.5 weeks traveling around Thailand staying at many wonderful, beautiful high-end resorts we decided to end our adventure in Thailand on Koh Samui at Anantara Lawana to celebrate our 2 year anniversary. We did A LOT research to try to ensure we ended our trip on a special high note. After a pleasant pick up at the airport by BB (he was very kind), it severally went downhill during check-in. The individual checking us in immediately gave me a hard time about not having the card on hand that I booked the hotel through over a month in advance. The card I used to pay for the hotel in advance with is a US card that I do not travel with, otherwise I get International fees. Also, I wasn’t given any warning in advance that this card would be needed during check-in. The entire stay was already completely paid for, but she continued to give me a hard time about traveling 10,000 miles around the world without that one specific card. She then sent her manager over who continued to be unreasonable, even though our room has already been paid for in full. It came to the point where she had me email her and her manager my card bank statement to prove that I paid for the hotel... They then continued to charge us a 4,000 thb for a security deposit, which no other resort did during our 3 week visit. The lady then brought us to our room (which is lovely by the way), and proceeded to act like everything was completely fine even with my tear filled eyes.
This entire experience literally brought me to tears because of how upset I was. After having already stayed at 3 other high-end resorts all over Thailand and not having one other negative experience, here this “high-end” resort was (during the last part of our trip, on our anniversary) so poorly treating us during check in.
There are not enough words to fully express how heart-broken I am by this entire experience. I’m sitting her currently at the resort during dinner typing this on our first night because of how upset I am by the entire experience. We immediately went for a 3 hour walk off resort along Chaweng Beach to blow off steam.
I have traveled all over the world and have never experienced such low quality customer service at what is supposed to be a high-end resort that we paid a lot of money to stay at. We are currently considering other options on the island for the remainder of our stay.
We spent seven nights in a group of four pool access villas with family and friends. From the moment we landed in Koh Samui to the drop off back at the airport we were treated to impeccable service. Our villas were spotless, well appointed and super comfortable. Everything you could need was provided and service was always accompanied by a smile and a hello.
Breakfast was delicious, dinners were wonderful and the treetops restaurant experience was amazing.
Dylan, Kieren and all the staff should be congratulated on the guest service and presentation of this hotel. We would highly recommend Anantara Lawana to all travellers.
It was intended for a quick get away to relax and bond with our grand daughter visiting us from USA. The beach and evening activities were very limited and boring. Could have been better with thematic evenings for a better Thai experience. However short drive to Chaweng beach for a shopping, entrainment and great food.
The location is just superb although on chaweng beach but away from the hustle bustle. Just 10 mins drive from the airport . The property has extremely good restaurants and the staff is highly courteous and professional . You would often spot the manager Mr Dylan taking rounds and getting into conversation with the guest which is very warm on his part .
We had booked a deluxe plunge pool Villa and this was our best relaxing vacation. Spa facilities are expensive but they are worth every penny .

Outstanding in every aspect. I found the staff at this hotel extremely respectful, helpful, happy and all round fantastic. Food amazing and def would recommend a meal in the TREE TOPS restaurant on site also the pool bar restaurant was gorgeous. I really cannot recommend this resort highly enough. Just one name stands out for faultless service and observation and that is Susan. To say that this resort is out of this world would be the best and only way to describe it. Thank you to Anantara for a holiday of a lifetime 😀😀😀
