How to Get There
Good location and convenient to anywhere. The assistant front office manager Mr, Jakapun Somrit treated me like royalty when i checked in and the service was absolutely impeccable. The room was clean, tidy and well-equipped which made my stay comfortable and relaxing. Thank you for your wonderful staff for making me a good travel experience in Osaka.
Large but gracious, foreigner-friendly hotel attached to the Namba Nankai station. Our room was comfortable and had a terrific view of the city. We booked through Hotels.com. Perhaps for that reason, the hotel didn’t take a deposit, and asked us not to charge anything to the room. We used the hotel laundry service, and ate breakfast at the excellent breakfast buffet on the 36th floor, but paid for those with cash.
The entrance is a little difficult since the hotel is on top of a train station but it does have multiple exits and entrances. It's connected to the Takashimaya dept store which I found convenient.
Overall, I have nothing bad to say about this hotel. The staff speak good English and are helpful when asked, the rooms are spacious and with a calm colour palette, and the view is great from the higher floors.
Excellent and efficient service especially the front line. Breakfast choice was limited but quality abd freshness are there. Room decor not that wow but the great guest service have compensated the rest.
Stayed at this hotel from 30 Nov till 7 Dec 2018, Room No. 2602 & 2603.
It is my first visit to Japan with my family and had decided to stay in this hotel with my family for vacation. This means Swissotel Nankai Hotel is the first hotel I stayed in Japan. I have booked the rooms via online about 2 months in advance.
Location wise is great as it is attached to Nankai Namba Station and walking distance to major area in Osaka such as Dotonbori, Kuromon market, shin shai bashi, etc.
Had a few unpleasant experience while staying in this hotel as appended below. Notwithstanding the manager had personally wrote a message to me apologising the incidences, I feel that I should highlight those incidences as a reminder to this hotel incoming patrons as follows. Even upon checking out the hotel, the staff in duty still extend his apology to me despite I don’t know him nor he is the one attending to me during checked in:-
1. I have booked the rooms nearly 2 months in advance and placed my credit card as payment for the amount as stated in their booking website. Unfortunately, the amount charged to my credit card is different from the sum stated in the hotel booking website. Was explained by the staff that they yet to charge the breakfast for my stay although I have requested the same when the booking was made and follow up by a written email to confirm my stay.
2. Secondly, the amount paid while the booking was made as not captured at the reception counter. When I checked in, I was asked to placed deposit for my stay, room charges with breakfast, despite I have paid everything in advance. Upon questioning the reception staff, both my cases above were referred to the reservation unit. I have to wait nearly 30 minutes for the check in process. This is not the service I expected for a 5 star hotel.
3. No one is assisting us with our luggage when we come back to the hotel from USJ. We carried our luggages on our own that evening and no staff seen at the concierge area. It is about 8pm local time.
4. My family nearly being chased away from the hotel lounge when they are sitting waiting for me purchasing drinks at the lounge. Note that I am fully aware that I need to purchase something from the lounge bar if I want to sit at the lounge. AND I DID THIS SO. My youngest 10 years old daughter is having her drinks from outside the bar and joining us waiting at the lounge. The male staff is not happy about the outside drinks despite I had purchase 3 drinks from the lounge. She being asked RUDELY not bring the drinks inside the lounge which is just next to the concierge area. This is not Japanese culture I believe so. My family is waiting for me in purchasing the drinks and why some people who just sitting at the lounge without any drinks from the bar not being chased away? Whatever, my daughter just throw away her drinks to avoid further issues as we have unpleasant experience already at the first place.
By the way, we are waiting at the lounge for our NANKAI train to the airport which I was told the same owner within the group of Swissotel Nankai Hotel?
Notwithstanding of the above, some credits some be given to some of the staff which had worked extra miles to ensure our staff enjoyable despite the said incidences. All the staff at the 36th floor bar is excellent and a staff by the name of LEON from the concierge unit had given us his very best service and informed us how to move around in Osaka. This is great.
As what I have said, location wise of this hotel is GREAT but the service is rather a bit disappointing. Not sure whether it is worth our money spend staying in this hotel for 7 days for 2 rooms or otherwise and I really don’t know whether I would ever come to Osaka again in future. If so, alternatives accommodation will be considered.
