How to Get There
We loved the Westin Kyoto! Wonderful staff, lovely room with expansive views of Kyoto and great beds/bathroom. Restaurant was high quality...wonderful breakfast buffet and dinner buffet for the night we were too exhausted to leave the hotel. You can walk to many sights or take the free shuttle to Kyoto station for sights further abroad. The hotel helped make our four days in Kyoto wonderful!
We had a great stay at the Weston in Kyoto. The location, though not central, is good because of a subway within half a block, the hotel vans, and if you take smaller roads a lot of wonderful things to visit. The concierges were the best we have ever interfaced with. Ask them anything and you got it. The red button on the telephone (Service Central) was wonderful too. The hotel is beginning to show its age here and there. Our room, while super comfortable and clean, was furnished in dated and somewhat worn carpet and furniture. Just like home! The common areas were impeccable and modern. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast which offered something for everyone albeit not always gourmet All staff were very polite and helpful. I can see management reads these reviews because several past complaints have been clearly addressed. for example there are lots of electrical outlets in the room places just where you would most likely need them...
We stayed in a traditional Japanese room in a separate wing behind the main hotel. It was lovely and very private. The hotel had many restaurant options from fancy to cheap eats.
We loved the location, about 15 minutes walk down the hill to all the Kyoto sights. The hotel offers free shuttle service into town and to and from the train station.
We would definitely return.
We stayed at the Westin Miyako Kyoto Hotel for three nights in early April 2018. I used points for this stay and I am a Westin Platinum member. The lounge access was very good and the one morning we had the buffet breakfast it was also very good. These were both complementary due to my status. The hotel is in a good location for the sight seeing we had planned. The issue I had was with the room. The two chairs in the room were totally worn out to the point that there was an impression of a persons rear end on the seat. The remainder of the furniture was just very old and it showed, as was the carpeting. I've stayed at many Westin's in my life and this was just not up to the Westin standards. The hotel was quiet and we had no issues with sleeping so overall it met our needs. I just seemed a little worn.
Best to find another Hotel, as this one is very tired. The curtains in the room were frayed, torn and very dusty. The Shower recess had mould and had been there for quite some time, would be almost impossible to remove, nor did it drain effectively. The bathroom amenities were cheap and not what one would expect from World Class Hotel. The towels use by date truly expired. The Linen did not fit the size of the bed and when we asked for it be changed, they could not manage a simple task.
Staff very pleasant and helpful, the Lounge /Bar area was quite good.
