Warning!! You have to pay 3250 yens to use the fitness centre and swimming pool!

This is one of the worse hotels that I have ever stayed at.
The room is old, ugly and small and it needs much renovation.
The concierge looks unhappy with no smile and rigid.
Worse, you have to pay 3250 yens to use the fitness centre each time which is not shown in the hotel description on this tripadvisor site!!!! Yes you have to pay to swim and exercise at the fitness centre, and that they close at 10 pm with last entry at 9 pm!!!
This hotel is out of date and does not keep up with the modern world. I have to say I would never stay at any Okura hotel from now on. A huge disappointment!
Also they still use a large key which is again inconvenient and technologically out of date 🤮
Also the room is shabby and very ugly!

Just short of 5 stars

Excellent stay overall. The concierge has been amazing at booking restaurants which would otherwise have been impossible. The location is amazing as so close to the center and is above a metro station. The only thing missing and prevented me from giving a 5 star are the finer touches e.g coffee seems to be expired (see picture) (my visit was in May 19) .

Excellent city centre hotel

Lovely spacious room with a great view over Kyoto. Plenty of bars and restaurants within the hotel with various types of cuisine . Views over the city from the buffet restaurant and a wide choice of food. Try the wine buffet in the evening !

A lovely spacious room on the seventh floor, this was, in fairness, possibly the best city hotel room we’d stayed in throughout our travels in Japan, although we had booked (or rather the wife had!) deluxe accommodation.

Buffet-style breakfast was on the 17th floor with lovely views overlooking the river. The choice was reasonably good, and the food the same. This was the only breakfast where they did an omelet with a choice of fillings, which was a real bonus: other hotels would only supply plain omelettes. We did have one minor issue at this restaurant: we had a deadline one morning, and when we arrived for breakfast, to our horror the place was full, and there was a queue waiting outside.

The staff throughout the hotel were very pleasant and helpful, and service was generally impeccable.

Great location, wonderful staff

The fabulous hotel has very well appointed rooms that are quite large with room for a comfy chair, footstool and coffee table. The location is great as you are close to public transport but also close to some fabulous undercover shopping arcades and markets that will make your stay in Kyoto just that much better. The staff at the hotel go out of their way to make sure your stay is comfortable and that you get the most out of being in Kyoto. The bakery downstairs is also good to keep in mind for an early morning or late afternoon snack.
