The Review

In contrast to larger-than-life Kingston, the Spanish Court Hotel is an oasis of calm behind high walls. After I made the two-and-a-half-hour drive from the northern port city of Falmouth along Jamaica’s, shall we say, exciting interior roads (sample sign: “Undertakers love careless overtakers”), the friendly staff and waiting glass of champagne at check-in were very welcome.

Formerly a shopping center, the hotel opened in 2009 at the crossroads of the city’s commercial district and the cultural attractions in New Kingston. The crowd is predominantly of the laptop-wielding, deal-making variety, but families and visitors en route to Montego Bay or Ocho Rios also snag some city time here.{“type”:”img-inline”,”src”:”/static/images/product/properties/2521/prop-97350-1330710600-full.jpg”,”width”:”275″,”caption”:”In the colorful lobby, Jamaican-made furniture combines with statement light fixtures.”}

The 109 guestrooms have a decidedly masculine look, with block colors, modern marble bathrooms and the requisite flat-screen TV and iPod dock. But you also get a sense of the city in the fiery red bedding, Jamaican-made furniture and photography by local artists. This successful mix of Caribbean design and contemporary style is seen again in the restaurant, which combines a straw and resin bar with white leather chairs, and in the entry hall, where dark wood floors are flanked by colonial-style shutters and there are Italian Flos Zeppelin chandeliers hanging overhead.

Meals at the Gallery Café continue this theme, with modern takes on traditional dishes, like braised oxtail, curried chicken and coconut shrimp, all served by an attentive staff. If you’re not heading out to experience Kingston’s famous nightlife, retire to the Sky Terrace (part of the spa by day) for a Red Stripe beside the lap pool and live music under the stars.

The next morning I met my driver, Jason, for the short ride to the airport. A living, breathing homage to Michael Jackson, he broke into falsetto song as we exited the hotel gates, just as the noise and buzz of Kingston resumed.

Reviewed 3 days ago

This has been my third stay at the Spanish Court and it keeps getting better and better each visit.

Impeccable Service: from check-in to breakfast to the pool side to lunch and dinner. The staff is efficient, courteous and ready to assist at all times! I must especially commend Joseph for his exemplary service!

Amazing Decor & Environment: I just adore the modern yet cozy feel of the hotel and am especially fond of energy saving element in the room.

Poolside: The ambience of the Cabana pool is absolutely amazing! You’ll relax there all day!

All in all, Five Stars! Every visit to the Spanish Court has been nothing but delightful and positively memorable!

Best Hotel in Kingston
Reviewed 3 days ago

Have used many hotels in Kingston over past 4 years, but no doubt the Spanish Court is the best for business traveling. Big enough to have all the necessary facilities, but small enough to still provide the NO 1 service. Decent rooms, clean, sufficient power points and charging points. Free WiFi - of a good speed (can use eg Netflix), decent breakfast (included).

Sisters Getaway

Sisters Birthday Getaway, I loved this hotel, its decor is chic and the Spa was affordable and the staff was friendly. I was even able to order a last minute birthday cake. The pool was nice and the breakfast a mixture of American and Jamaican fare. The staff even gave us some recommendation on tourist spots for entertainment. I can't wait for their new location in Montego Bay.

Comfortable Hotel
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Stayed here for a few nights during a business trip in March 2018. Hotel is well maintained and staff is friendly. Breakfast is ok - but just average, could be better. Location is in mid-town, getting around - especially with the hotel taxis - can be very expensive. Overall hotel prices and taxi fares, etc. are very high in Jamaica. But hotel is Ok and recommended.

Great Service
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I’ve just visited Jamaica less than 2 weeks ago and my stay at the Spanish Court was nothing less than excellent! The customer service I received from the reception staff, Aniesha, was superb! They treated me with the utmost courtesy. The food was awesome at its best! Last but not least, the room was quite comfortable , clean and relaxing to my liking as the manager, Joseph, assured me. I’d recommend this hotel to anyone as I’ve given it an excellent review.
