Beautiful setting, a little intimidating
M S

Hemingways was booked for us through our travel agent at the end of our Kenyan safari. When we arrived, I was blown away by the beauty and richness of the hotel. the setting is gorgeous!

However, it is also a little intimidating, especially for a family that is usually in the budget to moderate range in our accommodations. I suppose that people who stay at places like this are not usually worried about the little charges here and there. It was not made clear to us at the orientation to our rooms what was complimentary and what we would be charged for (for example, we were offered juice our of the fridge in our room, but a soda taken from the same fridge incurred a charge). And we had NO idea what services one would expect from a personal butler!!

The included breakfast buffet looked very beautiful but was extremely carb heavy, with lots of pastries (several types of croissants, Belgian waffles, potatoes, toast, etc.) and not a lot of proteins. Eggs were made to order, but took quite a while to arrive.

As a family with children, we also felt out of place as the majority of guests were older couples and groups. It felt like a place where we were all underdressed and had to shush our children (just an impression, nothing we got from actual staff). We were also woken for turndown services after 9 pm when we were already in bed for the night.

Overall a gorgeous setting, I just felt out of place and intimidated.

First stop in Africa!

Our family of 5 stayed at Hemingways Nairobi the first night we arrived in Africa for a 10-day safari trip. Our only regret was that we did not book more than one night there! The facility is beautiful, the staff friendly and accommodating, and the rooms very clean, comfortable and well-appointed. Thank you for a wonderful start to an amazing vacation!

Lovely start to a great trip

My wife and I stayed at Hemingways Nairobi in June to start of our honeymoon before flying out for our safari. It is a stunning property with beautiful grounds and great rooms. The food was lovely and the staff friendly and attentive. The hotel also arranged for a driver to take us to the giraffe sanctuary, wait while we were there, and bring us back which was incredibly helpful.

We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and would not hesitate to stay again should we find ourselves in Nairobi!
