How to Get There
This hotel reminds me a little bit of the Brown Palace in Denver - unique and old world charm. It is conveniently located about 4-5 blocks for the south 4th street restaurants and nightlife. You can also rent bikes right next store. Free transportation to and from the airport. Really friendly staff and a great lobby bar. If you eat there you have to try the hot brown - it is like a Thanksgiving dinner on a sandwich! Would have given a 5-star rating but the shower/tub needs a little grout work.
We stayed at the Brown hotel prior to our river cruise on American Steamboat Company. It was a lovely hotel. Very historic. The lobby is very welcoming. The staff is warm and nice. It is a relaxing start to a river cruise.
Everything but the room itself was wonderful. Room and bathroom normal for a hotel 40% the price. Staff, service and decor wonderful. Club level rooms may be special, but the price really jumps. Our luxury king room was typical of most hotel rooms.
The Brown Hotel is the epitome of class and charm. Our visit to Louisville was great, but between all the amazing dining options and spacious rooms, we never wanted to leave The Brown. The staff there were very friendly and the bartenders' knowledge and history of the bourbon we tried was impressive and enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Louisville, either for business or for pleasure.
The Brown hotel is a lovely, if somewhat musty, hotel. However, be REALLY if you leave something in your room. I accidentally left a few electronic items in my room (yes, expensive items) and called to see about getting them back. I called them and called them and called them. I talked to managers and others who would "check with someone and get back to me" (yet never did) . After 5 days, I finally had a manager on duty admit they were probably gone.
Look, I know it is my fault that I left 2 items in the room, but I am human and when you travel a lot, that sort of thing happens. And when I have done it before at a different hotel, they got back to me right away, mailed it out, and all was good. This, however, has been a total nightmare. I shouldnt have to call a million times and get the runaround. The Brown needs to just admit that this was good old fashioned theft and I will get on with my life.
Also, if you have allergies, be sure and bring some allergy meds. I did do a lot of sneezing!
