How to Get There
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the JW Marriott. We travel quite a bit, mostly as a family but this stay was just my husband and I. I was going to ask if we had an upgrade available but I forgot upon check in, turns out our room was just perfect! We had a corner king that had a partial city partial water view. The room was spacious, and was very clean. We couldn’t help but to notice that everything in the bathroom was sparkling clean (a rarity in so many hotels). The bathroom towels were nice and thick, and the shower was amazing, it had a double shower head and that was awesome! I normally do not use the bathroom products in hotels but I loved the lotion.
The bed was very comfortable, pillows were super comfy. The carpet and all the furniture was impeccably clean, it was obvious that there was much attention given to detail at this Marriott.
The staff at this hotel deserves a special mention because everyone we spoke to was very kind and attentive. The young ladies at the check in desk were so kind and so patient with us as we asked for recommendations for lunch that day.
We ordered room service at 11:00pm, our food was hot and delicious!
The lobby was just as clean, and I couldn’t help but to notice it just smelled so good throughout the entire hotel.
If I could give this hotel 10 stars I would! They obviously care about their guests and about customer service which almost seems non existent these days. We will surely return to the JW Marriott on our next trip to Grand Rapids, and highly recommend it to others!
We are Titanium Elite members and stay here on business frequently. I am currently here now and have been very disappointed in this stay. I left the hotel at 10 this morning and requested service for our room while we were out. I just came back almost 5 hours later and our room has not been cleaned. I checked with the front desk and did not get much of a response. We have tickets to a show this evening and wanted an opportunity to relax before heading out again. Instead, we are sitting at the Amway Grand next door now that they have finally come to clean our room. In addition to keys not working and some other minor mishaps, this stay has been very disappointing. I expect a higher level of service based not only in status, but from a JWMarriott.
JW Marriott has great customer service, clean rooms, good location and beautiful views of the river. I was on a business trip and recommend this hotel. A Starbucks is located on site so made that morning coffee easy to get.
I’ve loved this hotel for years. But the last two times I’ve stayed, it has been loud, check in long, and service under-whelming. I’m disappointed as a PE member to not have preference of room, to potentially be away from the noisy lobby (I’m on floor 11, and it’s like the musicians are outside my room). I had checked in online yesterday, and still had to wait in a line five or six deep today. If you’re looking to sleep - do not get a room anywhere near the elevators. The open lobby/atrium allows the noise to travel.
Frankly, I’ve had better experience at the Courtyard next door.
Horrible experience! Several issues! They charged a small cheer team $1200 to open the doors of an elevator that they were trapped on for almost an hour. The girls were very scared and had to jump between floors to escape. NO, sorry this happened or we have been having multiple issues tonight with the elevators. The JW will blame the guests. Many other guests had been trapped in the elevator earlier that night but they refuse to acknowledge that. I guess a small jump by a few tiny girls in an elevator is what caused all of the elevator issues even before we arrived. A staff member even confirmed to me that the elevators had issues before we first got trapped. I personally helped an old man out of the elevator who had been trapped. We've asked them to review the footage of the elevator issues for that day and no response.
Before we knew about the elevator issue, we had several issues. First, our block that had been held for 2 months and confirmed via multiple emails suddenly wasn't a block when we got there. After an hour, they finally got our 8 rooms but on 3 different floors. Really? They knew all along that we had 5 rooms with underage girls, and 3 rooms with coaches and chaperones but they still put us on different floors. They almost ruined our suprise to put gifts in the girls rooms prior to their arrival. It was very stressful.
The amenities were ok but not worth over $200/night. The rooms were small, the bathroom looks nice but no counter space, the beds were horribly uncomfortable and no one slept well. The pillows were very uncomfortable and not sure of the material but we all woke up congested with red and swollen eyes. The food was obnoxiously priced for very mediocre taste. We spent $3000 in one night and it took a lot of fundraising to be able to do this for the team. It was 33 families and coaches that did a years worth of fundraising to have one great night and there are now 33 families that know not to choose the JW again!
