How to Get There
The JW Marriott Grand Rapids is in a prime downtown location. I had booked a Beer City USA package that included some great amenities such as free parking, club access, free buffet breakfast, and some "local" (Blue Moon?) beers/snacks.
Check-in to the hotel was quick, easy, and friendly. The only problem was that the keys I was given was for a room that was already occupied. It was unfortunate but could have been worse. I promptly returned downstairs and was given keys to another room, which was thankfully unoccupied and had a good view. Before I could even complain, the manager called and gave us an apology and a credit. It was handled exceptionally well given the circumstances. These things happen from time to time.
The room itself was modern, clean, and very nice overall. This is about as luxurious as you are going to get in Grand Rapids and it was good to see a JW as an option. The river location is very pretty and most rooms enjoy a nice view of the area.
The package I booked came with club lounge access, which was nice. It wasn't an open bar but you could get a couple of free drinks (beer or wine) each day. The snacks offered were very good and the views from the lounge were nice. The staff in the lounge were very friendly and attentive.
I did not use any of the amenities but they all looked nice, including the indoor pool. I did dine for breakfast two mornings as the buffet was included in my package. The breakfast was better on a Sunday than a Monday, which makes sense. Overall, it added a nice value to my stay.
Overall, this is a great property and would be among my first choices in Grand Rapids until the Hyatt opens.
Nothing special to say besides it was a pleasant experience.
The service was OK and the room great.
Location is a plus. I immediately knew that these guys work hard to provide the best and I think they deserve this feedback, well done.
Looked forward to an anniversary trip with my husband for the weekend at the JW Marriott Grand Rapids. Usually stay in Courtyards or Marriott’s for work, but thought it would be great to stay more upscale as a treat for us. Used 35K points for one night... but was FURIOUS at check in when I found out that as I am “Gold for life” under the consolidated Bonvoy loyalty program, DOES NOT CONTINUE LOUNGE ACCESS. I have been a loyal Marriott customer for over 20 years. I travel by myself for work often and appreciated the concierge lounge access for breakfast and evening for the ease and peace of mind (security) when traveling to Europe and especially Asia. At this JW Marriott the front desk gave me a $50 pay option, but I was shocked and dismayed at this loyalty program change. What is going on with “loyalty programs”????... they are hollow no matter how you spin it. Marriott has LOST MY TRUST AND MY LOYALTY.
